I don't see any pinned Hot Tube comment! The gates turned out amazing. I really liked your face when you did the first one and it lined up after being mounted. That's the true enjoyment when you finally see what you've done coming to fruition and actually being correct!
When I first saw the gate, my reaction was NO, NO, and NO! That's how you make a gate to sag. That Diagonal brace should go from the bottom hinge to the top, outside corner. After watching the build, I have forgiveness. Steel makes a difference, yes, it does. Sweet project!
Steel braces should always be under tension not compression. This isn’t a wood frame gate where braces under tension rely on the holding strength of the fastener. Steel buckles and bows under compression. It’s strength is under tension.
@@banannaninja exactly. My first impression was of a wooden gate. Having watched the video, I withdrew my wrong opinion. A wooden gate requires compression. Steel, requires tension. I've built some decent wooden gates. I have yet to work in steel on that level.
Fabulous how you combined the traditional wooden gate design that always, at least in uk rot, with the strength of steel to make this lovely eye candy approach with the durability of steel. Love it! Thank you for sharing!
What i'm amazed at...is not his creativity, workmanship, or quality...what i'm amazed at is his ability to get up and down off the floor when he was working on it!!
Great work. Painted black on the outside on a busy road...eventually someone will pull in to your drive way to turn around in the dark and smash into them. I hope some money was set aside in the build budget for reflective tape.
Good thing it's steel and strength is not an issue! The cross braces are slanted the wrong way if it was just wood. None-the-Less, a beautiful creation for sure!!.
Nice gate, simple but still decorative. Only thing is that the "support" beam drops down from upper hinge. Gate leafs or wooden door leafs should always be supported from lower hinge upwards. But i think that i case it does not make any difference because gate has metal framing.
Kinda like the simplistic locking and securing mechanism. Not a lot to go wrong when the inevitable power failure hits. Beautiful gate. Not a simple task to set them precisely, nice work.
Yeah! When I was a punk kid, I help a job superintendent roll the roof trusses for a double car garage on a recently floated floor slab. Up until that point, I thought roof trusses only came from factories equipped with huge jigs. All it took was a chaulkline and a tape measure; would never have thought of using a piece of strap as a straightedge.
Looking forward to the followup video where he drills and taps holes for grease zerks in the hinges so that the thing does not sound like someone demolishing a ship with a crowbar when it opens.
Absolutely love your gate design - really awesome!! Thanks for another great video ! Watch you almost every day on the Makers channel - Love your videos and talent - THANK YOU !
Looks good. I make a lot of gates and get a knot in my stomach when a customer says they want wood. They don't realise the maintenance that goes with wood even on a steel frame. I have even tried to over price a few to avoid saying no and still got the job! Then again it rains a lot here in Ireland which doesn't help.
Nice job jimmy! I watch your videos more For the little tricks hidden within than the item that it's "about". Deep respect for you my brother! Hoping to see you at maker camp next year!
Aha! Following this build on IG, I couldn't tell how the boards has been inset in the steel frame. This explains that so much better for me. That's a fine looking gate. I bet the front gate will look even better, though it's hard to see what not to like on this one. Thanks for sharing!
If you spray paint the floor with 1 inch lines spaced at 5 inch intervals you have kinda of a large cutting mat. I've done this with cm, 5 cm lines every 10 cm. There's no going back for me, it's been a huge helper with large builds.
that's an awesome idea. For us, we reconfigure the shop so much though, that we're we build and lay out isn't in a consistent coordinate on the floor. Sometimes the big open space is clogged with tools, or things get shifted. We're constantly "tetris-ing" the layout for the best use for the individual jobs. If we had a dedicated open area to use, I would definitely consider laying out a grid.
You could have taken an easy road to make a gate very basic and functional. As a master craftsman you always take it above and beyond. Love what you do...keep it up Jimmy
I would've like to have seen those pillars being built. They look pretty new too. I also admire you saved the beautiful white oak for the inside instead of the randos.
Awsome gate, there may be trouble with dirt going in the holes or freezing in winter. There is so many types of gates. This is a mega strong one, thanks for the video.
If you ever build up the drive under the gates with concrete etc, install a lenght of U channel for the drop pins, many people just use tubes, a channel is easier to clean out ;)
A pair of remote controlled closers/openers and you are all set! I like that these should not sag over time like regular wood gates. Question is who cut and dry stacked those columns?
Thank you, the video was very helpful.
WOW ... An Armour Plated & Bullet Proof gate . Couple of centuries life in that beast !! Great build
wow that's one heck of a gate!! nice work! but you need to ground the bridge.
This Old Tony 😝😝😝😝
He only put out that fire because it was his job....
Is this the hot tub party? 🤣🤣
The perfect response. I would expect no less. 😁
So there’s wood on both sides? I was confused because it looked like one side was metal

This is my favorite video. Thanks
Wholly chit that looks fun!
I'm from Brazil and here has many gates but nothing like this very good I liked very much
Thank you for the inspiration. Your videos are proof that your only limitation is you ability to try.
diresta you are the best !!!!

I wish I could get down on my knees like that again. Beautiful work. Should last forever.
DAMN! You built the snot outta that gate! Terrific design!
TOPTIP: Making one of the hinge pins (the lower one) slightly longer makes for a easy hanging experience!
nice build

Even if it were made out of rope, strength is in tension, not compression.

It's a small gate. Either way would be fine. He's not spanning an 8 lane highway. It's like 6 feet per side.
@@xenonram Try it (bottom up) on a baby gate and get back to me
Beautiful as ever!!

Thank you for showing the hinges. As they are quite literally pivotal, I couldn't have slept not knowing. Great gate.
Been subbed for many years... But this is straight up one of my fav vids.
Thank you 🙏🏼

Beyond the enjoyment of watching you create, I could listen to that blues riff all day long.
Full size drawing for the win. Those gates are awesome.
Gate to Paradise!
Family work is an example for everyone! Great!!!🤠👍🤝
It is nor often that I see a gate properly braced, Well done.
Quick and dirty build, perfect!
Your follower from Iraq for years is a fan of your work 🇺🇸🇮🇶
Fantastic Gate, but really impressed how Jimmy can work on the ground.

I haven’t even watched the video YET but the design alone on these is really exquisite.
Good thing it's steel and strength is not an issue! The cross braces are slanted the wrong way if it was just wood. None-the-Less, a beautiful creation for sure!!.
I know it's plenty strong. but the braces going the wrong way doesn't look right.
Muy buenoo el trabajoo . . Muy prolijo .siempre te sigo en todos tus trabajos desde Argentina ..un saludoo ..
Always impresses me how everything Jimmy makes looks solid, sturdy and tough AF.
Gates look great; a little weather and they will look even better.
Cheers

Awesome idea by Taylor, and an awesome build by Jimmy and the team
Idk why but this is so satisfying to watch, just the process and no talking
With all the craziness in this world it's nice to view some sanity. It's good for the soul. 😎
just go into the jimmy rabbit hole. Start watching all his videos and enjoy.
Awesome gate. Maybe move the top bolt to the sides or something - winter is going to freeze that thing on top dead shut.
Taylor came up with a fantastic design and you executed it to perfection!
Christ, I thought you were being snarky, then I read the description.
Wow Jimmy you are the grand master of make awesome 🤛
Pure DiResta artistry.
I still miss Spike...🥲
Great job and Workshop envy level 10
Nothing like a big concrete floor and some chalk, to make some great big layouts.

Thanks Jimmy for being a constant source of inspiration over the years that has made me into the maker that I am today.
Great looking, sturdy construction

That's true craftsmanship 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wood and iron fits perfect together!
Greetings from germany
It’s always a thrill to be entertained by Jimmy!
You spoil us Jimmy. Those are definitely gate shaped and fulfill the function. But we're conditioned to expect radical design at every build 😂
If you spray paint the floor with 1 inch lines spaced at 5 inch intervals you have kinda of a large cutting mat. I've done this with cm, 5 cm lines every 10 cm. There's no going back for me, it's been a huge helper with large builds.

Nice! And I dig the background music!
Nice fence Jimmy. Sho nuff would keep stray dogies from wandering onto the Diresta grass lands (aka....your backyard.)
What kind of blues music is that? Awesome job and one awesome gate!
Super work, like ever!!!!
Genial, como siempre!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
After a few rainy or snowy days I see automatic gate openers installed on those. Nice work. :-)
👏👏👏No words, just applause👏👏👏...and what is the sound on your video? Great job again
Love the music!
Gate is very classy! Niiiice!👍🏻

Awww yes.. Good old fashion Jimmy's project..
