  • Manual exposure bracketing is my favourite way to create stunning RAW HDR photos on my iPhone. In this video I talk about the whole process: how to setup, what you should be looking out for, what you should be thinking about, how to set each exposure, how to merge and much more. Enjoy!
You might be wondering, "where's AEB?" Well, AEB in all of the camera apps I've tested adjusts both the shutter speed and the ISO when bracketing, which can produce unfavourable results. You can get great results with AEB, but I've found I consistently get better results when I bracket manually. I did mention this in the video but cut it for time. Thanks again for watching! 👍

Great video as always David. I have always struggled with shooting raw on the phone because of blown out highlights etc. I'm going to dig the tripod out and try some bracketing tomorrow. This has been really helpful thanks!

Great video. My question is as follows, I have an app on my iPhone 12 Pro Max called Pro HDR X. Will this do the same thing as what you just showed in your video? I am trying to figure what the difference is. Thanks.

Another great informative video, thank you for sharing your knowledge. Very inspirational. Have you changed your camera app away from Halide and workflow away from darkroom? Im still looking at either Moment or Halide. However following your video on Halide and the stock camera using ProRAW I may wait to see what updates Halide do before purchasing it. Keep up the great work, stay safe.

Thanks! I still primarily use Halide but I jump around all the time so I can stay up to date.

Have you compared this approach with the one stop approach just using Lightroom iOS app with the great iPhone 12 Pro Max to take three DNG photos and create the DNG HDR. Not a as much flexibility but seems a lot easier and usually works handheld.

@@David_Addison I takes three shots. Cannot set the exposure difference. My testing indicates that the Lightroom HDR is often better than the ProRAW image, i.e. seems like there is more detail.

    • @schretter1
      @schretter1 4 роки тому

David, Adobe LR mobile app was really the first one out there with a good DNG camera for the iPhone. Now the same person who. bright us all the computational photography in the Google Pixel camera is now at Adobe Labs developing "new: smartphone camera app technology. Hopefully some new stuff will be coming out eventually.

Hey David! I recently watched 4 of your videos regarding iphone photography and really loved all of them. I'm already subscribed since this is quite a niche topic to make a channel on but kudos to you man!
If it possible, can you please make a video on doing some astrophotography on iphone 12 eith the help of some apps. Also i wanna know what's the highest shutter exposure time can an iphone go upto? Since that's quite important while shooting stars at night.
And finally, if possible. Can you please compare if ip11 and ip12 cameras are comparable at night? I know ip12 doesn't come up with night mode but is it possible to get similar photos with the use of third party apps? I'm planning to get a new phone next month and I'm stuck between ip11 and 12 and there is quite a lot of price difference between both of em. Hope you'll answer.
    Great content!👍

Hey Ardarsh, thanks for watching 😊 I’d love to do astrophotography but it’s not possible where I live at the moment due to light from the city. As soon as I’m able to travel I’ll look into making a video about it.

@@David_Addison Thanks a lot for replying and no problem man! But if it's possible please make a video on ip11( with 3rd party camera apps) vs ip12 (stock camera app) since ip11 is mostly short of the new fancy software features.

With ProRAW do you need to do any kind of AEB (auto exposure bracketing)?

    • @lewis1180

I think the answer is YES (after watching your video).

    • @David_Addison

You can if you want to but ProRAW uses multiple exposures anyway.

Hey mate, just discovered your acc and is nuts! Love it! I also tried HDR couple of weeks ago and I found that the best HDR is in photoshop Pro HDR. With Lightroom just select the bracketed images-> merge in photoshop hdr -> and from the drop menu select 32 bit and check tone in ACR lots and lots of more light info than in Lightroom. Also when I do panoramas I first do hdr in photoshop then panorama in LR. For a more detailed guide search hdr in photoshop and check Ed Gregory (old but gold for me)! Best regards, Alex! Salut.

Good one, once again! A question, do you know any iOS app (without subscription, single purchase is OK) to merge bracketed pictures directly on the iPhone? For Android there is VibranceHDR which was reasonable, especially for a free software!
