Hey Angela, thanks for making the video. I worked at UBS at HongKong and Singapore officer for 8 years and resigned last year to regain my life. Loved your video and how true.. yoga during a investment bankers day schedule is a big joke.

My sister used to work in investment banking (incl. a few years at UBS), she worked probably at least 2-3 times more than I did. I worked in a multinational company. Apart from the long working hours each day, including weekends, she had virtually no holiday.
That sounds terrible, hope she has a better WLB now!

Hey. I am an Analyst working with IB Bankers here. Yeah I absolutely agree that handful work past 9pm. Some could even email you documents and instructions when midnight strikes just so you handle the requests first thing in the morning we come online. It's definitely not a breeze...

I work as a video producer in that space, and I have to say that even if the information was accurate, it still wouldn't have been an effective video in my mind. I much prefer interviewing the actual people and having their actual excitement and passion come out. I feel that it's much more effective than some script with an actor. I've made a lot of videos with just people filming themselves at home on their iPhones talking about what they love about their jobs.

can comp-hours really match with top tech companies. in tech hours are limited, pay is quite high, people at principal/director level must be getting way more than IB VP/Director now a days.
Likely not on a junior level in terms of hours, but pay does rise quite a lot and hours decrease as you rise up in IB

Isn't there sales & trading division (S&T) for investment bankers? I heard some work on M&A and deals but then some strictly profit off omissions from giving clients buy and sell orders.
Yep latter is S&T which is a division within the investment bank, and former (M&A deals) are investment bankers who work in the investment banking division

UMich has a good presence if Ross - otherwise UNC / UVA both have similar presences from what I've seen

The lady in the video works in UBS securities which works on market hours. So 7 am to 7 pm is the norm. She is not an investment banker (M&A traditionally).
She shouldn't be working on a mish mash of bakeoff decks + strolling around the S&T floor

I’m going to be working at JP this summer and you mentioned no one uses Mac for excel and why is that ?
Generally the keyboard shortcuts don't work on Mac / they work differently. Using the keyboard saves A LOT of time instead of the mouse, and most training is done in a non-Mac context so you'd be spending a lot more time learning how to use the keyboard and as a result may use the mouse a lot more.

How good was your financial modelling skills prior to you getting into Investment Banking? How would you recommend to prioritize your time given that learning financial modelling can be very time consuming.
Would it be better to focus on theory and interview questions, etc?
It's a better idea to focus on interview questions since they usually don't test financial modeling skills prior to joining, especially for analyst roles

Not very often! Very occasionally do they speak to one another, since there's usually a "chinese wall" between the two

I think one thing is unclear here. This girl in the video works not in M&A, but for Global Markets IB e.g. a trading or sales role. Which is definitely not as intense as an M&A role in the IB. But I agree, the video exaggerated in terms of trying to give the impression it’s an easy job by showing things like yoga sessions and other similar stuff...
Your spirt is missing the feelings of making the trades. I'm online at 6:30am and mostly done at 5pm then I go for a long walk every day no matter what weather or badd -52k losses. I love it I know I'm doing something that makes a difference, I do my research and trades so I hear what you're saying. I'm so tired at the end of the day I can't spell my name or add simply numbers. I don't talk with other traders so you're the first person that I heard say anything about how they're feeling, I thought there was something wrong with me. I was a little embarrassed about it because I'm dealing with such complex and unique issues all day with very little difficulty and at the end of the day I can't figure out how to add the 20% tip for my pizza delivery...
With the evolution of work. Wouldn’t it be possible that investment banking evolve? I know a few people that walk out like you due to the crazy hours and I think our generation 25-45 whenever we are the “shot callers” may bring some balance to the industry. Or do you think that’s impossible?
It's possible! A lot of investment banks are already enacting a lot of policies that 10 years ago didn't exist. Don't see it becoming a 9-5 but see it becoming better than it is now

That sounds promising! I don't know how the hierarchal structure works in operations so it would depend, but sounds like you have mid-level range of experience
I guess this is just unrealistic marketing,.. here in Zurich people just laugh about UBS / CS. Mostly expats work at UBS / CS and waste their lifetime there. Most young graduate students here prefer other jobs nowadays, and then sit outside in the green at 5.30/6 pm instead of being in the office... Its even a running joke when you drive through the city and you see all those bankers in their buildings made out of glass like 7-8 pm. My office building is more or less surounded by UBS offices & I feel sorry for those working there at 8pm (during non corona times) when I already go home from gym. However the video is a complete joke in terms of working hours. At least in non-COVID times most banking buildings (doesnt matter CS or UBS) are completly lid up at 7pm with many people at their desk.
