RIP Palm. Palm Pre was my very first smartphone. It paved the way for all modern smartphones. Wireless charging, multitasking cards, gestures, apps. It had it all.
It took us years of fighting to standardize and get everyone on board with the 3.5mm jack. But 9 years later.. here we are. Because of morons touting "courage".
Maxwell J This phone isn't Android is webOS, the notifications and the task manager in both iOS and android came from this OS, is a shame what the idiots from HP did to this OS.
Back in the early 2000s this is what I thought phones would do, get smaller and faster. Even when the iPhone came out in 07 I never dreamed that screens would get so HUGE!
@@outrageous5363 Wait. My mother uses a very old feature phone and does not even know what CPU is. And anyway some smartphones with one core are still quite useful
this was a great little phone. Despised being on AT&T, so my time with it was short. Playing with it now, it's slow as molasses but the form factor, build quality, and size definitely had promise. Plug was pulled too soon on webOS.
Imagine if they revamped this little boy with 2016 specs... My goodness how much more if it's waterproof I bet every athletes and enthusiasts would have one
Certain things that Lewis said put the pace of technological advancement into perspective. It's like we changed into an entirely different world in the gap of five years. First, the screen was 320x400 in size. By today's Quad-HD standards, it's figuratively non-existent. Secondly, he called a 15.1" screen "very, very , very thin." Phones are now half the size as a standard. Thirdly, he said "dual-core powerhouse". We now have octa-core as a common spec. Just can't help thinking that few years down the line, the current top specs would be a topic of laughter as well.
I think all this "you need this adaptor for charging" and "this adaptor for plugging in a headset" crap rules this out for me, which is a pity. Still, I LOVE my HP Pre 2 (I have 2) and will just get the Pre 3 when it's out. Thanks for sharing and the review, very interesting to see what's out there and just how you small you can make these things!
So small they couldn't fit a 3.5 mm Jack and micro usb part? More like they didn't have the technology at the time to do so. I have a 5.1 mm thin phone, WAY WAY thinner than this phone and it has both those ports.
Incredible. This has a 900 mah battery and it is pretty big, while the LG Watch Urbane LTE has a 700 mah battery and works as a regular phone. Man how far we have come.
@mimibuick You forgot to mention that is the price without a phone contract. From $99 with contract or $450 without contract to $55 is practically a fire sale. Accessories for the phone are selling at 2 for $5. HP announced on Aug 18, 2011 that they are pulling out from the hardware business. They simply wants to get rid of the inventory. Those who sell on eBay are going to make a lot of money.
@isaiahdavis98 Palm/HP had a clearance sale last Friday and today (yesterday was a holiday in the US). These phones are selling at $55 without a phone contract. Long line at the store. These phones will reach eBay soon. Bid accordingly.
Lots of interest here judging by the comments. Which means people want smaller phones again? Could be the next "big" thing for the future. I kinda wish there would be an updated version of the HTC Aria with a 3.5inch screen (same as old iphones)
+JasnoGT I love big screens actually. This Veer is just so small that it's a refreshing thing to see after all the new giant phones. I like that it's so tiny, I kind of want it as a collector's item
If you buy this in 2017, will you be able to use it? I heard something about HP dropping the support and stuff like that. I don't plan on using the app catalog, but can you use it at all when you turn it on the first time? Please reply it would help so much
One thing I've noticed in your videos is that the sound passes from the left to the right speaker throughout the video, it kinda freaks me out a bit and makes it hard to listen too :/ Maybe you could make your videos in mono? It's very off putting in otherwise great videos.
So why did I get a small phone? Cause I know the little guys can really pack a punch! ~Manny Pacquiao. The HP Veer with Web OS - works like nothing else!
LOL Yea, but take in mind that the 4S has a Dual-Core and is actually underclocked from 1 GHz. So yeah, this tiny and cute phone has a processor the same speed as the 4S, but the 4S has 2 of them. Both the 4S and Veer have 512 MB RAM :D
About talking non-smartphones we have a Samsung GT-C3300K , not an overclock version✌ ) and it have 2.4" display with 240x320 pixels. Bought it at 2010 year. STILL working like new phone and also it have VERY LONG lasting battery!
My grandma is still not used to using touchscreen phones because she kept on upgrading to smaller and smaller phones in the early 2000's. Her current phone is a 3" screen I think
No built in 3.5mm headphone jack? Seems the small size has made them compromise on functionality. Also that charging port looks very similar to Apples MagSafe connectors. Good video John.
RIP Palm. Palm Pre was my very first smartphone. It paved the way for all modern smartphones. Wireless charging, multitasking cards, gestures, apps. It had it all.
The wireless charging mayeb but gestures existed before that. I saw it on an old wired video on another smartphone.
oh its so cute, a headphone dongle on a nearly 10 year old device
