Hogger's not even a minor villain, he's an annoyance at best. Hence why there's no real attempt by Stormwind to deal with him, just throw a bounty on it and hope someone deals with it. He's more of a player legend, and a glorious one at that. And yes, I have said the infamous words, and Hogger may have been a deciding factor in me becoming a tank.
When The Season of Discovery servers first opened up I, like many other's, couldn't quest worth a darn due to the massive amount of people playing at launch. Then I saw a message in general; "LFM Hogger Raid" I've done my fair share of things in WoW, gotten a few Keystone Master's, downed a few Heroic Raid bosses, gotten a few close yet epic PvP victories but none of that, none of it... Gave me the same kind of excitement as being part of The World First SoD Hogger kill and being the first Warrior to get The Rune of Furious Thunder.
Lovely bit of work, as always, Ghost. One thing I'd like to add to Hoggers status is during the intro quests for Horde players during Battle for Azeroth, where they find a woman caged up in a gnoll costume with the headwear off and her dialogue being something like "I told the guards it was just a costume, but did they listen? No!" This all being a reference to a Blizzcon Cosplay contest winner, whose suit sadly broke apart as she went to collect her prize.
you should try it some time. You can play for the first 20~ levels completely free. That's a good couple days of fun and gameplay (assuming you don't rush through it). If you like the lore and everything, you'd probably like experiencing and exploring the game for yourself, even if you don't normally play this type of game.
You aren't missing much, grindfest of a game where 90% of players just rush to the level cap instead of enjoying themselves. If you like to run dungeons and raids or whatever you'd like it but after working all day the LAST thing I enjoy doing is working with other players lol. Probably why despite playing the game off and on for years I've never reached max level.
Having never played WoW, but remembering what 2004 was like, this video makes me happy. I miss that internet, that world. This and your video on Vancleef are my favorites because 1) the passion and 2) Its legit nice to see things from games you like the idea of but haven’t played yet. keep up the great work, ghost with the most
More importantly, his narration style is both animated yet still natural. So many UA-camrs are ruined for me by either over the top or monotonous narration. Ghost is clearly a good storyteller IRL and it shows in his videos from the structure to how he speaks. Him and Boulder Punch are the only 2 video essayists I really care for.
There were actually 12 low level world elites, 2 per zone for every second levelling zone in 1.X (and in classic) and up until patch 2.4 there was also 2 elite mobs in the starting zones, one in Teldrassil, which was the largest starting zone in the game for alliance - split into two zones and the other was in Tirisfal Glades, the largest starting zone for horde also split into two zones. One of them was for a WANTED quest, other other was just a roamer. They were originally placed in the game, as you said with the intention as being a zone boss and something to mess with new players. In 2.4 the two starting zone elites (both level 10) were turned into normal mobs, they were tied to quests which at level 10 were impossible to solo and by the end of Burning Crusade the devs noticed the population density in low level zones was so small that it was impossible for new players to get a group for those early elite quests without help from a guild if they had joined one, so those two quests were changed. For some reason out of all those elites, only Hogger is remembered; Not the others; I guess it just goes to show that the Alliance human start had the largest population of numpties back in the day. my first character was a night elf and I soloed the elite north of Auberdine entirely by accident (can't remember that mob's name), it was the second elite I encountered and this was I think on the second day I was playing the game after first starting in 2005, I didn't even notice it was an elite, I just was like "oh this mob has more health than normal", I kited it and beat it, another person came along and was like "OMG did you just solo an elite!?" I was like "oh, well, for me it wasn't a big deal." Then again, I solo'd Murkdeep later that day too; No big deal either.
I love Hogger. He's a good adversary and test to your build and learning of your character by the time you get to him. I actually *love* the new gnoll models, but I prefer his pre-launch version. The latest is a little too... "Well put together" to be the leader of some "savage gnolls." 😂 Wish the hugger pet was full-sized, though. Can you imagine one hanging out inside of Stormwind right after some new player just scraped by the fight? 😂 Don't like the arresting of him, though. It just doesn't make sense.
I feel Hogger can tell us something about modern game development as well. Something like this would not be allowed to make it into a modern game. A massive difficulty spike in a starting zone? NERF. REMOVE. DELETE. We've learned so much about what to do and what not to do when creating and balancing games, but yet.. Hogger is a legend and has provided a lot of fun for players.
Not true in the slightest and im kinda sick of people who show up just to say shit like that. Hell like a dragon came out in the last few years and has a Massive difficulty spike. 40 man naked gnome raids for Hogger were a thing back in the day. I really do think gamers who havent played WoW in its infancy have missed out on one of the greatest gaming experiences you could have. The scale of the world and the number of people playing it made it feel like it was alive. For some reason this has me remembering the MMO Aion which I played when it first came out and there was (maybe still is) a crab in one of the noob areas that totally steamrolls new players and people used to call it Crab Norris though it had a different name officially.
FFXI had a take on Gnoles that I really enjoyed, not being of WoW stock. They made them more wolf like, and played more into werewolf type attributes, giving them a moon phase based healing ability that also acted as an attack buff. Some of the higher level ones could alternate from being on all fours to being on their hind legs, and when on their hind legs they became quite imposing, and would use claw attacks with names similar to Monk's hand to hand weapon skills. In addition to that they possessed a counter stance, and could be quite rough to fight during a full moon.
Giving the smaller game characters lore and attention is what a lot of other lore and fantasy channels lacked. Usually, the details of the small guys are the foundations to give a game or story world it's flavors
Well... feliforms. Calling them cats is LESS inaccurate but still not right as they aren't felines either. Cats colloquially are what we call members of the family felidae. Hyenas have their own families.
