Well, in this message you confirmed what I suspected about my swing but didn't know how to articulate. I've always seen short driver shots whenever I've tried to "kill the ball." My wife was always my best distance coach when she would call from the cart, "drive slow." The rest of the clubs never suffered from the speed problem. Last summer, at age 74, I piped three driver shots into the woods behind the range at our local course, dead center. My grandson witnessed it and so we went straight to the 1st tee. This, of course, was after some basic work with the short clubs. In short, you've completely won my confidence. Purchased a membership a few moments ago.

Ex-pro here......I loooove the head movement THROUGH THE BALL .....the head weighs 8 pounds (average) and must move FORWARD through impact ....I enjoy your vids
I just found you and like what you are saying....my problem is rushing my swing, which causes injuries to my back and shoulder.... which is mistaking that for a fast swing, and you are leading me in the right direction...tough game but fun....So thank you for doing these videos sharing your knowledge....
This is so good, thanks for sharing your story. The primary reason why I'm doing these videos is to help golfers prevent injuries. I often tell my students, do the right motion because the golf swing and game will improve drastically as a side effect, but priority #1 is to stay healthy. Continue to seek the right information and movements, stay patient, listen to your body and it will let you know if you are going in the right direction.
Im 78. Driver 240ish. 7 iron 160 with roll. I do speed training but only to maintain, mostly to speed up sequence. It is a fine line because my body, though i still work out will mot handle a high speed. I work on detail such as wrist position and backswing. I hear not see a great swing. I agree with everything almost . You have the right approach. Willing to bet you are a great instructor. I have had many Most are a waste of time and money. Some are gold. I think its like marriage.
Thank you and congrats on your progress! Good information is hard to find...and I find that's with everything in life :). Very few good solid advice and they are truly gold and yes, like a good marriage.

I'm a male golfer and 3 years ago my 7 iron went 125 yards (total). After swing lessons from a PGA pro over 2 seasons, zero speed training, I can now carry my 7i 155-160 yards (trackmam verified) with improved fundamentals. And I took up this game at age 40 and not in great shape. This year I added even more distance than last year without swinging harder, just buy improving my swing mechanics. My body felt so much better and less beat up this season with a sounder swing too. I agree with everything you are saying. If I had started this journey in my 20s, I have no doubt I could get my 7 iron closer to 180 yards, but such is life, lol. I play a 33 degree 7i, not a loft-jacked one either. I love golf, I'm addicted and I'm loving the journey!
Hi jun First time Iam seeing your video, it was so fascinating to hear your wonderful words with regard to fundamentals. Particularly enjoy the process. You said also it is the proper motion of the body which creates the speed. Manzoor golf pro/teacher From india
Thank you for your thoughtful and supportive words, it means a a lot to me. So grateful you reached out from India. This is why I love technology to connect with good people all over the world.
@junlee8291 May I thank you as well for replying me back. In fact I saved your video. Trust me this morning I discussed with my golf student the same subject what is golf all about. Where are you from. Do you also play golf and give lessons. I do not know whether you would like to stay in touch with me for future correspondence . Regards Best Manzoor
Never thought about this, but you're so right. I've always thought tempo, which to me means, everything is in sync, no matter the swing speed. Of course, results should dictate the whole swing process.
After 15 years of hyeta and starting playing toward the end of last year l am seeing things that are foreign to me in golf lingo etc even companies were not even in business like PXG they were not in business when l hung up my clubs. Speed training is another thing and l tried it but am too old for that crap l look at it as l am an elephant l have the power to run through things l just can't run as fast as a cheetah. l think the proper way to say it is not to slow down but to stay within your tempo because we all have different tempos. l have the tendency to just beat the you know what out of the poor golf ball but l am way out of my tempo and nothing flows or the sequence it out of whack. When l swing within my means l get the proper sequence and much easier to produce that effortless power and what a sound that is like something being vacuumed up. Well that's my explanation of the sound lol. You are doing a great job and l like listening for a change rather than watching a swing video. 👏👏
Your message is great and enjoyed the creative analogy of elephant/cheetah. Glad you are back to playing golf again. As things have changed, the most important parts of the game remains the same. It seems like you are doing a good job keeping it simple which is the best way to go. Thanks for your kind words and support!
Most people who APPEAR to swing fast are quick in TRANSITION … that is, starting the downswing before finishing the backswing (usually with the arms). I have to remind myself to “PAUSE at the top” of the swing. Still need speed through impact (or just AFTER impact), … speed of the clubhead into the ball. I think the key is the sequence, and when that gets out of sync, the swing looks fast. Good stuff, Jun 👍🏻
Thanks for your kind words. Also, there are a lot of underlying root causes and that's why a quick tip doesn't usually make a dent in a swing. A lot of times, add issues to a swing.
I think I largely agree. But I think you are overlooking the tempo aspect, aren't you? I see many golfers rushing the backswing, which I think for lesser skilled golfers is a killer. They are yanking themselves all over the place, and wrecking good transition, by not bringing it back slower. And I think this is what most advice is focused on. Not so much the downswing, but the backswing.
Good question; however, many golfers are using it for the backswing and slowing the swing down doesn't correct the swing motion like takeaway or transition. Those fundamental techniques when done correctly can withstand a slow or fast speed or any speed. Most my job is working with what you called lesser skilled golfers and everyone of them have been told many times to slow down, some throughout their whole lives and if it ever worked, they wouldn't come take lessons. They take lessons to discover how to really hit the ball solid and spin it properly with a good swing motion. It's fun for everyone!
Key is use big muscle , you get hurt less. if you use hands or try to over swing..one small mistake you blew your wrist. These pga tour guys in gym all day. even if they hit ground they could recover. amateur golfer try to hit hard.. i like player hit smoothly. Lazy elegance. Plane swing is only way. Every thing else is terrible
Good points and would like to add, those PGA guys injuries do add up and recovery isn't always back to normal. Some should scale back and go the fine tuning of the swing route to maximize distance.
@@JunsGolf They get obsessed with spinning the ball. Its competition. its money. so they take calculated risk. if you can reach the green in two. They go far it. its fine if they hit 3 wood but with 3 iron and 1 iron.. if they hit ground too much it gets stuck in. 3 wood slides out not much reverberation go back to wrist I saw a tigerwood hit perfect 3 wood ...he was literally in pain. To recover and continue to play ...he has to have some cushion muscle. We humans over do things because some time it work and we think it will work for ever body has limits. too much of anything body will say no. Too much alcohol stomach will say no way jose and stop digesting. Once the layer intestine gone , he can never eat anything. He is finished So SAFE golf is key. Flatter round arm Plane swing is better Now how to achieve repeatable swing day in and out. Every day wake up our center of gravity in different place. I think pre drill is key for safe golf. 1. Basic yoga pose that head touches the knee and then hand touches feet with elbow on ground after people get up in morning 2. Then right hand touches left feet and left hand touches right feet in standing pose 3. Then other stretch exercize 4. some weight lifting above head standing 5. Practice with one heavy club before swinging real club. Idea behind is that its not surprise for body to tighten proper muscle. Preparing the body with no suprise weight or movement
Good question... It could be too fast relative to your natural speed that I recommend for each individual person, but you will still hit good shots with a good swing motion no matter the speed. People often tell golfers to slow down to fix a swing that often causes bad shots. A bad swing in fast, normal or slow speed is still a bad swing that produces errant shots and can cause injuries. It gives many golfers false hope as tips can work at times short term but when it doesn't work, golfers keep seeking other quick tips or they think there is something wrong with them and that's why it's not working.

For fun I slow down on the course after the 3rd hole or the first par 5. I slow down and hit the ball 30-40 yards further.
A good swing motion will allow that speed to come forth.
