This manga really does feel like late night cringing about something you did 8 years ago in secondary school. At such a time of young adolescents, just coming from the innocent childhood into your teen years. Everyone is an asshole. Everything matters way too much and nothing makes any sense. Its all your fault and yet not in your control. Its all just pain & agony, ending in the flowing feeling of forever regret. This manga captures all of that perfectly.
*Aya Tokiwa is The Bestest Girl In All Of Manga* And the second half of the manga is one the best romance stories in manga, with an accomplishing payoff through one of the most carthatic love scenes ever concieved.
Preach, fellow struggler. 👏🏻 Literally one of the most beautiful and cathartic love stories I’ve experienced in entertainment. I also find the message that the manga leaves off on to be such a beautiful and positive message. Berserk is my favorite manga of all time, but this EASILY is a second place favorite of mine. I adore it.
This video really described my feelings about this manga. I was so angry and annoyed while reading it but the payoff after the time skip and the ending along with how the characters face the consequences of their actions was amazing. Love this manga.
lol I did the same when I first heard how disturbed my friends were while reading this manga. I would also recommend "Chi no Wadachi / A trail of Blood" and "Inside Mari" from the same author, he really has a knack on expressing emotional and visual horror from his work. And all of them are relatively quick to finish, so you could end up finishing a series on a weekend if you wish so but I would suggest otherwise since from my experience binging his work takes away from the horror of his work.
Just read this manga and I love it. Al off it. As someone that suffers from childhood trauma and. Sexual stuff and other things as a child and rumors. And abusive as a teenager. And also the ending made me feel good, trauma doesn't disrepair, you have to live with it. Learn how to deal with it and accept it. I'm 31 and finally working on it intherapi on accepting and try to just live.
9:45 never thought I would see use of nc17 ost in any form of medium other than the original source itself, Zankyou no terror ost is one of the best in any anime I have seen and of course on the same level of other works of Watanabe Shinichiro. Your videos are really underrated, and you also select very interesting mangas to discuss such as this and even the video editing itself is getting better.
Appreciate that man. I just really liked the Zankyou no Terror ost and thought it'd fit the tone of the video. Glad it worked out, and I'll try to keep on delivering!
you were right. i shouldn’t have read it. i feel so empty after reading this manga. i need something just like it, it feels like i’m reeling after binging drugs dude. i love everything about this manga i fr just feel empty not reading it.
Have you read A Trail of Blood? It’s by the same author (I didn’t even realize it was the same author until you started describing the psychological war that this gave you) If you didn’t exactly enjoy the beginning of Flowers of Evil, I can say that the protagonist in A Trail of Blood is far more understandable in their actions, given their circumstance. It’s very disturbing though, and I couldn’t even sleep sometimes lol. But if you’re up for the challenge, I think you’d enjoy it.
I have (I think around 50 chaps), and I enjoyed it a lot actually. The beginning is defintely less infuriating, but still just as disturbing if not more. Don't know when ima pick it up again, but I plan to binge it from begining to end when I do.
the story kept me awake all night. that was some disturbing shit, yet understandable. situations from both (Chi No Wadachi and Aku no Hana) stories were too nasty for their own good that police had to intervene on both of them.
the artstyle is actually really good in the manga but in the anime, i get it that the animation gets it to make it more creepy and realistic in a way but the manga character design is actually really good too
this manga seems pretty good but I can see why you found it distasteful from what you've described I'd get pissed off too near the start. also, this is probably my second favourite video from you bro (eren vid is my fav) the editing and use of soundtracks was just on point although I know I won't like it at the start I'm gonna give flowers of evil a shot
I actually really enjoyed the fact that reading the first half was just..painful. everything the characters did was just fucking painful. They're all utterly broken and incompetent, especially the main 3 pre timeskip, which makes reading it so fucking annoying, but I loved that haha. I loved how much I hated it, maybe I'm a masochist idk lol.
I swear at one point in every teenager’s life, you’re filled with overwhelming angst/ depression. mostly because you suddenly feel frustrated at the futility of living but eventually you move on and grow up which is great. 👍
Flowers of Evil makes you feel? Yes, I felt many things, up until the scene with the gasoline and Nakamura pushes Kasuga off of the float. Then I only felt disgust. Betrayal. Then I read the rest of the magna, and felt nothing. Call me whatever you like, but the Flowers of Evil was to me a story of 2 (kind of 3) young people trying to grasp something -or die trying- and they FAIL. And the story doesn't have the decency to end it there, preferring instead to drag its characters and readers through the mud, rubbing our faces in it until grandly shrugging its shoulders as if to say "guess they're like you, now. Oh well!" Rot. I liked Shuzo Oshimi's work. I really did.
Guess I was late to the party, but after watching this, I read the manga from beginning to end in one sitting. Intense part 1, somber yet resolute part 2. Most of us were young, stupid, and impulsive, and the past situations we had revolving around our ineptitude were given us parts of our lives. Learning and living with the fact that we did them is the next battle we all face today and will be encountered head-to-head by our next generation.
went in knowing nothing about this manga nor author, came out being absolutely obsessed with this manga and all of oshimis other works. nothing I will read will ever be as good as this. i have re read this series 12 times in the last year. i recommend this manga to anyone. 10000000/10
Hi there. The way this manga is disturbing to me (but somehow it feels like a warm embrace), I do wonder how's you doing now? This manga is not a light read and the fact that you've read 12 times a year. I hope you're doing good, and happy new year!
Appreciate it man. If or when u do get to this manga, definetely prepare urself, cuz it is both infuriating and disturbing. But it pays off so damn hard at the end.
Just finished reading this manga, and I ended up really liking it. Though I must say, people really made it sound like this manga was a lot more disturbing than it actually was, which was a tad disappointing. I was expecting a really fucked up ending, but I'm happy with what we got.
I feel like you have to at least had a little part of teenage Saeki, Kasuga and Nakamura in you to have enjoyed the first part (I did and now this manga is at least top 3 for me now) I found much nostalgia in Kasugas depravity, Saekis weird empty self and Nakamuras hyper rebellious and lonely attitude. As an artist of my favorite early parts of the manga was Nakamura tearing away at Kasugas pretentiousness and turning him into his true self through the joy of vent art. The first part of the manga is uncomfortable but not because it’s just gross, it’s real as hell and most outcasted Japanese teenagers go through some shit like that, I just think you were the wrong audience for this manga.
i read aku no hana in 2019 and recently reviewed the anime. this is my humble feeling: i haven't read the flowers of evil so i can't try any parallelism so for me just aku no hana is a false romance. the subject here is suicide, all along! right from the start. here is the story behind THIS mask of ROMANCE (my little theory to me) -----> nakamura is badly in her skin and isolated from society (her mother abandoned them her father and her; maybe the reason) -------> she feels lonely and depressed and hides her distress in her isolation --------> but one day she comes across Kasuga who has done something stupid in Japan ---------> she then has a childish judgment which is quite normal considering that she is a high school student: takao feels lonely like her and hides much better than her ------ ---> she takes it into her head to reveal it to himself ------> takao has a crush on saeki and makes a mistake ---------> suddenly a girl threatens him to denounce him, he does not understand why she is interested in him and her feelings become ambiguous -----------> unfortunately the plot is advantageous for takao because saeki shares the same feelings he has for her -------> nakamura is confused, her pervert (another word that distracts us from the true meaning to be given to the work) is happy and her hen too! --- ----> she then becomes jealous but not of this romantic jealousy: she will go up the hill and go to the other side (IMAGE FOR SUICIDE!) It is rather annoying that her precious traveling companion gradually finds her joie de vivre -------> in despair, she still makes a childish judgment on saeki this time: "she wants to fuck". saeki is hiding, she too is unhappy because "she wants to fuck"; decidedly this world is more in line with her reality but she does not intend to share takao --------> the rest of the work can be browsed under this filter. the various layers of feelings that make up the complex characters of the characters make aku no hana a mature work unapproachable to most people. nakamura wants to drive takao deep into the abyss of despair so that he follows her to death. that's why they ransack the classroom (to push takao to despair). that's why she bares him childishly and in a last gesture of despair in front of saeki on the way to the hill. What a beautiful scene that of the road to the hill: saeki the angel who will have his wings burnt understood everything without however understanding anything at all. nakamura the demon is disappointed not to have been able to lead this beautiful soul astray. we are not in a love triangle here, NO! takao loves saeki, then nakamura, saeki loves takao but nakamura she loves takao not with a love of romance, but with a destructive passion that has only one goal: suicide. at one point she had an interest in saeki but childishly she was stingy (perverts don't run the streets). aku no Hana fits well with the reality that in our lives feelings are often repressed which results in many mistakes and I would end by saying that we often talk a lot but communication does not go through.
I have tried to get into this manga twice, now. The first time I reached the 4th chapter. The second time I got to the 11th. Since everyone was praising it so much, I also gave the anime a try. No way it's the greatest manga of all time lmao.
It is a good manga but no way I would put it near my top 10.
