This has got to be the best speech that has ever been spoken on this series. Babylon 5 has always been far superior than Deep Space Nine, which many consider to be a direct clone of Babylon 5. Babylon 5 is the best hard science fiction military series ever produced. Hopefully, one day, every nation on Earth will learn the lesson as highlighted here.

Londo's facial expressions throughout the speech were priceless. He is so torn inside, he knows that what his people are doing is wrong, but he is the main cause of the Narn defeat. He has to project strength but he is disgusted with himself and his people.

+Ares99999 Still fits with what Phantomshark said, Londo knows he is directly responsible, he wished for and caused the Narn defeat, however his conscience cannot stand for how the Narn were defeated. Londo knows the Centauri emperor is insane and is dragging his entire race down to his level.
What Londo wanted was for the Centauri to show themselves superior, to regain the glory of the days of old, instead his wish made the Centauri a pariah to the other races, he did not get glory instead he just got covered in blood and filth.

    • @DEP717
      @DEP717 5 років тому +33

I agree, 100 percent. When Londo spoke, out of frustration, he was mad over the "Eye," and when you come to think of it, running down some space pirates didn't take a ton of firepower, mainly intelligence. I am guessing that Londo figured that Morden's friends had some firepower, but that they had mainly been able to do it because they knew where the bad guys were. There is a big difference between that an a large scale assault on a major power.
To go back to the past, before the association developed between Londo & Morden, the Narns had been pushing the Centauri around. Maybe Londo was hoping for some kind of defensive stand to protect the border, or maybe something where the Narn could be persuaded to give up a sector politically. The difference between what Londo "wanted," and what Morden delivered was one of scale. Londo had no idea how powerful or dangerous the Shadows really were until he was basically welded to them as a partner. Londo might have wanted the Narn pushed back a sector or two, which is probably what the average Centauri Admiral would have given as a best case scenario if there was a war. The idea of being able to totally take out the Narn Empire and besiege their homeworld would probably not have been on Londo's radar, or said hypothetical Centauri Admiral's. At least, that was how I saw it at the time.

[STARS]TyranT Your observation is correct. Look at Peter Jurasik... he was also so overwhelmed, he momentarily slipped out of character when Andreas spoke. Yo can see it in his eyes. A softness, almost tearing up a little, as if those words were his (Londo‘s) redemption.. but there was no apparent reason to switch from angry to soft to hard-nosed again.. I strongly believe Peter was caught by surprise ... that show... it’s poetry, it’s a form of faith to me. Not a year goes by without a re-watch. Such awesome stories, galactic actor‘s and actress’s performances. That humble tone to all of it. The grandeur. One if not THE best show ever to grace the screens.

I'm going to be real. I'm going to tell the hard truth as best I believe and know it. This show at times was corny. It had cringeworthy moments and it had sometimes rather overdramatic performances that made me wince.
And it was at times an AMAZING show that could stir emotions, feelings, thoughts and viewpoints. It had some of the most POWERFUL moments and it had dialogue that could be so MOVING and RELEVANT with EXCELLENT performances that outdo almost anything else.
This scene was excellent. The actor portraying G'Kar (God rest his soul in Heaven) was truly AMAZING. As a man of Irish ethnicity with some family in Ireland, I can understand G'kar and his speech concerning the English and it's history.
But I also remember G'kar can forgive. This was amazing. I am grateful for the memories. I am grateful it erred on the side of POWERFUL performances rather than underwhelming ones. I am grateful, for the show Babylon 5.

Something of interest in the council scene- Kosh's presence. He really doesn't need to be at this (what any other Vorlon would consider) petty argument and waste his time, yet he is. And not only is he there, he seems to feel for G'kar- he actually turns to look at G'kar after Londo demands his removal, then follows him out with his head.

+GhostInTheShell29 I agree, and I feel like the fact he even showed up shows he cared.
**edit also when Kosh helps G'Kar later on in the series(by talking to him in the dream or whatever) also shows that he cared what happened to the Narns.

Yea Kosh definitely cared what happened here, but he was still in non-inteference mode.

Kosh cared about G'Kar ... he visited him to teach him a transcendent lesson during the episode where G'Kar psy-rapes Londo.

The ambitious, devious, DANGEROUS Narn with their backs to the wall became noble and sympathetic. The has-been Centauri with wind in their sails became a threat to all.

The character and story arc development in B5. Is next level compared to anything else. Best thing to ever air on TV.

This was one of the greatest space operas ever made stuff set up season one pays off in season six people talk like adults that are professionals in their fields. This is what right looks like Kurtman trek is dog shit on the sidewalk of sci fi

The evolution of G'kar & Londo throughout the series is one of J. Michael's greatest writing feats in creating Babylon 5, and the life given to the characters by Andreas & Peter made it truly memorable. For those who do not know this fact, J. Michael Straczynski had written the entire series before he ever pitched it to anyone, a rarity in television history that is emblematic of its unique place in the annals of sci-fi. It will never be equaled or replicated.

No. BlackRock, Nudelman and Lucifer own your souls. You're in no position to teach anything to anyone.
