NEW WARCRY STARTER SET! A Good Way To Start Playing Warcry?
By the way the arcticle says its going to be a paper gaming board like the ones in the AoS Starter Set or the one included in the Conquest and Imperium magazines.
Nice one, thank you! Looks like they corrected the article after it was initially published. This should mean the price will be pretty low.
I really like the idea of this. Been on the fence about starting Warcry but just dipping my toe into AOS now with Gravelords so the models in this will be useful either way.
They’ve picked some nice models here, and perfect if you don’t have them already
If reusing warband models helps keep the price down that'd be great. Maybe they'll release a scenery upgrade pack to help boost the amount of scenery you get. It'd be nice if this was a preview of a new scenery line.
Terrain looks pretty cool. That statue and coffin would even work in 40k. I hope they release them separately.
I can see the statue being popular for sure.
Was thinking the same, i could use the terrain with my soulblight gravelords army for AoS
Would fit my Warcry "Corpsewarck Mausoleum" set.
I’m also eying the terrain pieces. I have the Crimson Court already built and painted. Will keep an eye online to see if anyone sells the terrain separately.
It's really, REALLY going to depend upon price - you'll actually get more of a game from Underworlds at the £50-60 mark
Looking forward to seeing the price for sure!
we have to factor in the terrain too, underworlds does not have any besides the board.
The New underworlds starter is 50€ ... i think it should be the same, because in underworlds are more minis and cards and warcry has more terrain plus bigger board. It is also magic price line, that are people willing to pay to get into tabletop Skirmish
@@carlosascanio7143 It's literally a handful of scatter terrain, about the same as you'd get with a single issue of Stormbringer, and Underworlds has a LOT more paper and card in it
@@christianknaack4190 Pretty much what I'm thinking too - at that point, it's very worth having, but if the price goes up to 60 then Underworlds actually starts to look like a better deal.
Depending on the price, I might finally get into Warcry.
But I've already got both those warbands, one from Underworlds and one from Stormbringer. But a second set of the Crimson Court would be nice.
This is a great Starter Set - IF!!! - the full warbands and expanded terrain set are made available to purchase as expansions. If this is all you get, then this is a dead-end.
i just love the idea of a tiny warcry starters with underworlds warbands from early seasons is a good way to make these bands abaliable again for purchase and also make people enter the amazing world of warcry, thanks for another nice preview Lee
Would love to see more underworld warbands coming to the game.
I think this is pure genius. I had this idea from when I got my hands on bladeborn to have stats for all underworld teams and then ToC21 came out which was the golden gift for me.
True this box isn't really for existing Warcry players, but it will do great to attract new players if the price is economical in these inflated times.
And from experience in bladeborn 600-ish battle do work, so with some extra terrain and platforms this will be amazing
Also checked the warband cards and except for the pointcost on the Crimson Court (25pts cheaper in total then before), they are exactly the same as the stats they gotten earlier from gw.
The fighter cards, at least for the Crimson Court are the same that they currently are from the Bladeborn Rules. I use the Crimson Court in warcry all the time.
I have all the minis in this set from underworlds, but I want that terrain.
Those are the leaked ones, so they could well be different in the official launch box. With the leaked paper board being different than the description in the article, I think they could be different.
@tabletopskirmishgames I don't think they will be different. The article links to the rules and fighter card download which includes the current rules for these two warbands.
I've compaired the stats with the Toc21 and only some points where changed. The Crimson Court is now 25pts cheaper then before. Xandires are true copy and paste from the white dwarf cards.
@@PedroBaele Oh youre correct. Don't know how I missed that. Guess I just looked at the stats. Point changes I'm in full support of. NIce
ive seen a lot of peeps misunderstanding the box, they kinda expected a "starter" box with 2 big teams and terrain, but this box is for new peeps and not for existing peeps to expend on it
i think the box is great, 2 teams peeps can easy expend on, some terrain, and tools. it's not to much stuff which can scare peeps off as having to paint 2 big warbands and a box of terrain can be really scary, so less stuff reduces that. it also means this box should be cheaper which also makes it less of a barrier to get in ^^
peeps also seem to dislike it are underworld teams but i think it's okay as they are some more unique posed minis that are pushfit so even easier for new peeps
Stormcast skills:
Double: -2 ability value for enemy fighers within 9"
Double: Enemy within 1" has to use disengage action if not possible enemy takes D6 damage
Double: extra attack action + extra disengage action
Triple: Can be used after ranged attack action, enemy takes +1 attacks until round end
Triple: Choose friendly fighters up to half of the value of this ablility they can make either extra move or attack
Triple: +2 attack against targer that is away more than 3"
Honestly I’m happy to see this, getting a starter set that’s likely to be priced less than those giant boxes feels like a great way to start! Sometimes the giant box sets are intimidating for some newer players but for something like this it feels just right. Smaller less than 1000 point warbands helps people feel good for each model they paint, one model painted?!?! There 25% of your side painted! Every model feels like a big step towards being game ready and that’s a really good thing for newer players!
Agree with that; GW did similar for kill team so it’s cool to see it for Warcry.
I've already been pulled into too many other Games workshop games, so I've been avoiding Warcry. But that terrain is just amazing, if the price is good I might just buy it for that.
I'm feeling like this could be reasonably priced to get new players. Maybe I'm too positive? 🤣
I'll be jumping in on that warcry box
It's really nice to see a snowy board!
Fits with the new AoS season theme too!
I'd love to see the other underworlds warbands brought over to warcry. I wouldn't mind having a smaller points game mode for warcry either. Maybe using the underworlds warbands for that but also beeing able to make point equivalent warbands out of the other warcry/aos models.
Thanks for covering the great game of Warcry, I think it's one of GW's better recent releases. :>)
Warcry got me into the hobby properly, so cool. Thank you for watching!
Would be really cool of gw to put the underworlds cards in this as well so you can play that as well or incentivise you to buy into underworlds.
I'm a fan (price depending). I think a whole 8-15 man team can be a little overwhelming for new people so I don't mind the smaller number, but I'm curious if these will just be bladeborn fighters if you want to make a full 1000 point warband out of them. If its
This is an ideal true starter--designed to get the curious into the GW funnel.
--The box looks to be half the size of previous 'starters' > the existing starter set boxes are freakishly HUGE to boardgamers wondering what the TT miniatures games are all about. No one is looking to lose shelf space!
--Half the number of models > hard to believe to those of us already sucked into the GW minis, but 20 models in a "starter" set that have to be built and painted is NOT a selling point to someone truly outside the tabletop miniatures ecosystem
--minimal amount of 3D scenery > also important to someone new to building and painting minis. To those of us wanting to increase an existing collection, we want more. But to their target here, more is too intimidating.
If I were GW, I'd price this at $65. The come out with an expansion for each warband to bring them up to full-size as $35 each. And finally I'd bring back the scenery and cardboard map from the first warcry starter at $130. This makes GW more money (and we know they are fans of more money). But it also gives truly new players a step-by-step small physical scale upgrade path. This would satisfy both Need and Greed.
It’s got to be priced reasonably, and I think $65 is a good shout
@@tabletopskirmishgames Well, that wasn't even close was it? Whew, no way I'm going to pick it up at $130 Canadian--oof
Yes. Finally. Waited eagerly since the leak. It's a must buy for me having played and enjoyed bladeborn, I wanted the next step so I thought of using some other models I had for aos but I still missed some tokens etc. Now this box gives me everything I need with two sweet warbands and nice terrain. I already own some other Stormcast eternals so I can easily make the jump to 1000 points If I want to. But I guess these smaller scale games are absolutely okay for me since I don't get the opportunity to play very often and the smaller scale is more approachable. It's definitely a special interest box. But if it fits I think it's great. IF the price is also entry level.
Have exactly the same feeling after been able to get my hands on Bladeborn. This is a fantastic way to play Warcry on 600-ish pointswise. Lets add some verticality with platforms and it will play just fine
Interesting… like the terrain… but it would have to be quite a low price as a starter vs the main boxes
This is a bit like the smaller Kill Team starter set. The very basics to give it a go but with fewer models. Be interesting to see how they price it up.
Gonna get this so I can proxy some things into Cursed City and maybe play a little WarCry! Been meaning to give it a go.
Cursed City models are fun in Warcry.
I think that's a good direction in wich GW is going here. Smaller Starter Sets with smaller warnands to start. Sadly I already have all the minis in this set.
At least it looks like you can actually play "full" games with what's in this box. The Kill Team starter box on the other hand...
Certainly tempted by this to get some quick games in. Had my eye on those models for a while. As always, depends on cost. You never know with GW!
This box looks cool. Kill team needs to follow the war cry model
Looks cool. As someone who collects GW models on occassion but doesn't play 40k/AoS/etc., this looks perfect to actually try. Your videos on Warcry have really peaked my interest in trying as the rules seem way better than other GW offerings, especially with respecting my time for play.
Thanks for covering this! Hope the set is
Definitely worth giving it a go especially with all the free rules available. If you have AoS models you probably have everything you need to g eg started.
This really might get me into war cry
I expected something different for the new starter set. A new Warband and not again Stormcast. Since GW just released Cities of Sigmar, they could go for this one. The scenery looks nice, even thought its less then in the other boxes. Maybe with buying two boxes you have a nice amount of terrain for a nice graveyard battlefield.
Looks like a nice little set. I already have the Crimson Court so I guess I'll just download the fighter cards and such for free later.
Skills for vampires:
Double: +2 attacks and 2 strenght for next attack action
Double: +2 damage for crits within 6" of this fighter
Triple: Minion resurrection
Triple: After taking out enemy fighter heal double ability value
Triple: +1 attack for friendly fighters within 6"
Wow, those seem really solid!
Nice terrain! I hav ethe models already but we will see about the terrain...
I wonder if they’ll release it separately later on? Maybe a ‘deadly terrain’ set?
Looks similar to the Kill team smaller starter set, which wasn’t priced to bad , hopefully the will get the price right. Always liked these mini starter sets as they are great for giving you a taste…… I can’t help but think this is what a cured city expansion set should have been like🤔
What was the smaller kill team set called?
Such an odd starter set decision. Not enough miniatures to properly break into Warcry. No Underworlds cards to play that game.
And for those of us who own these underworlds warbands, this is completely useless.
Yeah definitely not good if you have the models already.
The only thing that interested me what the new terrain , which leads me to think the next season might be set in Shyish next.
I read somewhere that AoS was moving to Aqshy, so I assume that both Warcry and Underworlds will follow the way they did with Ghur.
I really want the game board since it’s cardboard. It’d go great with the original Starter Set terrain.
All depends on the price. It’s make or break
Would you recommend any box sets to upgradeing the warbands?. I did see the new underworlds starter has Skellington and stormcast? Will that work?
I've been looking at getting into Warcry. (KT seems a little to complicated)
I don't have many AOS figures, would this box be worth it if the price is right? Thanks for the video.
It will definitely depend on price. If you can find a well discounted previous set like red harvest, I’d recommend going for something like that as you get more of everything and that was a great set. I also still like to play the original warbands and all the rules are free online so that’s an option too, especially if you have some terrain already.
They changed the article to state it comes with a paper mat not a cardboard one which is a real shame.
Ah nice one, thanks! I thought I got that completely wrong but was sure it said card 🤣 Should mean it’ll be pretty cheap then.
As a 40k player and kill team player how does Warcry compare?
Thier different, I play both, KT, is more complex and a bit more, serious... Warcry, less complex and is very fun.. a least that's how my friends see it. Both are deeply satisfying in different ways. Plus narrative for warcry is way more fun then KT.
@@toxiccandy7888 Many thanks
Cool.
Finally!!!!!
it sort of feels like a underworlds set and then they shifted it to warcry.
models look good though. Although that's pretty much always the case.
I really love vampires but I can't paint faces at all.
I wish they had gone with a different warband. Xandires Truthseekers do look cool but they keep showing up in the boxed games and they don't seem like a good match vs the vampires
I have multiple issues with this box:
- Imbalance in points between warband: It seems based on points that the vampire player will have a hard time keeping up with the Sigmar players
- 2 pre-existing underworld warbands: the warbands are cool looking BUT as they are old underworld warbands, quite a lot of players may already have them. Making the box useless to them
- Seems to be Warcry version 1.0 rules instead of the new Warcry rules
- The terrain although cool looking is sparse and without much interaction possibilities
All in all, I think this is a trap product and should be avoided
The height variations is what makes Warcry fun for me, except with Catacombs where there are the pits to negotiate. I suppose they'll go heavy with the deadly terrain for this one.
Hi great video as always. Bit torn on this one, I see the appeal on something smaller for beginners, but no height on the terrain, and expected new new models. It will encourage newbys, but it's success will be the price, too expensive and I think it'll fall flat
Great points. The height is a shame as it won’t give new players the proper feel of what warcry has to offer. The dynamic movement is one the biggest attractions for me.
@@tabletopskirmishgames agreed if the price is right and there would have been some platforms it would have been perfection achieved.
I want to get into WarCry but I find this set somewhat underwhelming. What would people recommend to buy instead so I have everything I need to play?
I know this is a month old, but if you are still wondering, your best bet is the Heart of Ghur box, as it includes the full rulebook, nicer dice, much more terrain, actual full warbands and a thick cardboard mat, as well as a lot of cards. Stores should still have it around and it is the best value for the money by far (except from the original starter which would be impossible to find at a good price)
The other boxsets are still better value than this one but do not include any rulebooks or dice or tokens.
is it me or are these boxes getting less and less In quality AND quantity
Yeah they really cheaper out on this one. They should have given full teams and made a starter like Kill Team. Warcry deserves better.
It’s nice to see a similar product to the kill team starter. They could have thrown some baboons in! 🤣
I wish this had come out before. I already own the direchasm models...but never want stormcast (worst GW designs to date) so maybe just as well.
For Pete’s sake. Well now I’m happy I didn’t buy Leviathan. Can’t wait to see the price. I want all the models.
For those who didn't get these warbands, I think this is going to be an awesome set just to get the miniatures. I am positively preempting reasonable prices for this, though 🤣
It’s good for me because I don’t buy the underworlds sets. Not interested in a card based system, but hate to buy the box just for the models and throw the rest out. Feels wasteful? Or am I just cheap? 🧐
Horrible as a starter set. You don't even get a full 1000 points warband. Basically just an upgraded Bladborn set 😞
Yeah quite disappointed as well. This is a huge bundle mistakes for a starter.
Eh, this is disappointing. Was hoping for more.
Wait, what the heck, not full point teams?!? :/ No sign of the book, or mission cards… ? Very minimal terrain. This actually seems TERRIBLE as a starter :(
It’s a very different starter than we’ve seen previously. Aimed at casual new players wanting to dip a toe in for sure
@@tabletopskirmishgames I guess… just kinda feels unfinished and half effort. Price will tell I guess.
