Dave had an influence on everybody, whether they had a talk show or not. He changed the comedic sensibility of the 80s.
that's what i was thinking as i watched it. i can see conan doing this and making the same jokes.

And Dave wonders why he did not get the Johnny Carson job? A great gag but if this was truly a gift from NBC Chief and he lampooned it this savagely, he cannot be shocked they chose Leno? And although I preferred Dave to Jay, NBC’s decision turned out the correct one. For only for a few months did Letterman ever beat Jay in the ratings over a decade period they competed against each other.
I have a feeling little ole' Tracy there at the counter was a hot little ticket. And I think Barbara Gaines just really lucked out career-wise, I'll just leave it at that.
