      For example, why didn't they know nobody would come because the beaches are so out of the way? Because they are far left prats who prefer to take things from people rather than examining reasons for the status quo.

    Hubby and I live in Sunset Beach, CA which is part of Huntington Beach. We live across the street from the Pacific Ocean. Every 4 years, the sand at Surfside which is next to Sunset Beach, must be replenished due to the jetty that was put in many years ago by the Navy as there is a Naval Weapons Station there and the ships come in to dock to replenish their armaments. The jetty stops the sand from natural replenishment. It is happening now. It’s pretty cool to watch as the big pipe that is used to suck up the sand spurts it out onto the beach. It takes about a month or so for the sand to be replaced.

    So many people want to place blame on other factors ( climate change, rising oceans, etc.) when the first mistakes were in allowing development in the “combat zones” of naturally changing coastlines. The lady who wants the beaches to be preserved exactly as they are for her grandchildren when they grow up does not comprehend the nature of the coast that is constantly changing. Should a barrier island that is migrating south be allowed to consume multimillion dollar houses on the north end while they are being quickly built on the south end? The cost of preserving a pristine picture perfect setting for decades to come is very expensive in terms of money and the natural environmental changes.

      I am exactly with you with your view. These beaches are not disappearing. They are just migrating as all sand beaches do. What get in the way are the ignorant developments that were allowed from the get go of California. If not for all the human structures and feeble attempts to stop nature's geological changes new beach shorelines would had formed. Nature will decide where the sand are taken and where they are re-deposited. Old beaches disappear and new ones formed. This whole program is biased from the people with their respective interests.

I started worrying about the Atlantic beaches I love in 1970. I assumed that, as the effects of climate change ramped up in cost, people would stop talking and they'd act. Nope. The cost of action will climb steeply, and the likelihood of success in preserving the coasts will fall.

      Seas are rising at the slowest rate in 13,000 years. And humans can`t control it. It`s called erosion. Humans had absolutely nothing to do with the 400+ rise in the sea level in the past 20,000 years which has recently slowed to almost nothing. The coast of California is affected by ground movement. Anyone calling this problem they`re having "sea level rise" is completely delusional. They say the same about Miami which is sinking for very well understood reasons. People seriously need to inform themselves and stop listening to these psychos with a $$$ agenda.

      Already happening in Florida, mobile home parks are being targeted. See videos here on UA-cam to learn more. I wish the land owners cared enough to include relocation services for residents but they don’t. Maybe here it can be different. The rich should not be allowed to land grab pushing thousands from their modest housing. If this scenario is not privatized in the sale, taxpayers will end up paying as the problem straps the cities and State with people that have no money to replace what they had. We taxpayers fund Cal Trans projects and the cities fund cleanup behind storms. I like the dunes idea. So far the best idea many cities are working on. But if push comes to shove, we should block any attempt of entitled greed going on in Florida. Beach front owners made the choice to live oceanfront and they had full disclosure from their title insurance policies and liability policies that they have No Lot Boundary on the ocean side and they take the risk of land lost. They have no insurance for it. They’re lucky to get the State and community support they are getting. The dunes projects are the most promising. Another post here gave us a history that this has been 400 years in the making. Our planet has cycles.

      @@debistanley2791 Thanks for your story. The idea is to use common sense and not getting confused by politics. There are a lot of places where beaches grow but erosion is permanent even on a rocky coast. People are not to blame for that. And there are a lot of beautiful places without beaches. But the main motive to live on the coast is romantic. And fishing of course.

Inland development plus exacerbating drought means our beaches are no longer being fed sand from creeks and rivers. Come visit Capistrano Beach and you’ll see the problem. Sea level rise will indeed contribute eventually to the massive erosion and infrastructure loss we’ve experienced.

    The present Torrey Pines State beach free parking area along PCH just immediately south of the lagoon entrance is very interesting. The present barrier beach that underlies the Pacific Coast Highway has been deposited upon a wave cut platform benched into Pleistocene to Holocene estuarine mudstones over the past 10,000 years or so. During the mid 90's, severe winter storms removed the modern beach sand and underlying cobble deposits along with the roadside parking along PCH to the east, exposing the dark grey shelly estuarine clays below. The estuarine clays here are close to 100' in thickness with non marine valley floodplain deposits below that. This non marine to estuarine to open ocean shore face sediment package has been migrating more or less as a single unit up the coastal valleys, filling them in over the past 18 to 24 thousand years in response to sea level rise. All of this due to melting glaciers and massive continental ice sheets resulting in nearly 400' of sea level rise, flooding all coasts worldwide. This is the just latest in a series of marine transgressions occurring over the past several million years. Here comes modern civilization with its" immoveable" hard scapes. The PCH at this location forms an artificial "sea cliff" causing the remaining beach to change from a sandy beach /cobble environment to a combination sandy beach /rocky shore environment armoured with huge angular blocks of rock at the PCH. The sandy beach with it' basal cobble conglomerate has since reformed, however the wave cut platform below the newly reformed beach has been extended shoreward and downward, lowering the beach over time. With the next major episode of sand and cobble removal, the beach tries to move eastward, once again threatening the "immoveable PCH" with renewed cutting of the wave cut platform base. Continued sea level rise caused by in part by human agency, it's clear that eventually PCH will be forced to migrate as well, eastward along with the reformed beach.

    • @serialshagster6651
      @serialshagster6651 Рік тому +3

      It can't redeposit it because of offshore dredging for sand to use in construction. The sand on the beaches are gonna wash out and fill those voids. I lived at the beach all my life and I remember 30 years ago, it was a long arduous journey from parking at the beach to the water, especially, I you had to carry your stuff. I eventually, bought a surf tag to drive on. Now, the surf tags are useless cause as soon as you cross the dune, you are at the water! I live in Delaware, on the East Coast...

    I've been listening to this since the 70's. Nothing new to me. We are one of the cleanest countries in the world. All this talk about "loosing our beaches" will happen anyway. It's been doing it forever. People build structures near the ocean, on top of cliffs, for the view, and yet the cliff will be worn away, over time, due to weather. They build on the beach and the same thing happens. Yet humans "the most intelligent creature" on earth hasn't learned don't build in a place where the environment will affect your dwelling. And to that man that said to start eating less meat, I say what has that got to do with erosion? Seriously. Humans are made to eat both fruits, vegetables and meat. If you want to eat less meat, fine but don't try to force the rest of us to eat less of it.

    NOAA's models for sea level rise are exaggerated. Actual measurements at sea levels are very different then what the models show because they tossing the assumption that the ice cap will melt, based on the assumption that global temperature will keep rising, which neither one is still not proven, some caps are melting, and some areas do get hotter, but they make it sound like it's world wide which isn't true or can't be proven. Assumption, assumption. People hate hearing that, they want the disaster to happen for some reason. Instead of looking at the data and research they just repeat the domesday scenario. What happened to the nuclear plant melt down that would melt a hole through the earth? Yeah that was a real scare back in the day. Now Russians are catching catfish near Chernobyl, animals are thriving there are bugs, plants, etc...did you read about that one...No. and there's no hole in the earth. What about the Mayan 2012 ending of the world ! Y2K? California's beaches are eroding because that's what coastlines do. It all depends on what their made of...sold rock takes longer then loose dirt & rock. I could go on, but I don't think it would change anyone into just doing research...don't believe me go read about it. Educate yourself you'll spend hours on Social Media, but never research your fear...I mean away from mainstream articles! You have to look for the truth today....

    Just like in Hawaii, most of these beaches exist because sand was trucked in. You don't know that do you?

    To me, climate change is this generations pearl harbor. We have to come together in order to battle climate change. The longer we delay the more damage will be done. Together as a nation we can overcome anything.

      So you actually believe humans can control the future and change the climate by what....reverting back to the Stone Age? Solar panels will be useless after the next major sun dimming space impact or level 8 volcanic eruption. There IS NO climate emergency or rising sea problem. Ask a REAL scientist! You`re completely deranged if you believe normal beach erosion is "climate change." These rich jerks simply want public taxes to pay to upgrade their expensive beachfront property. LOL!
