And the sky is blue. A major storm could easily destroy any city, any where, any time and people don't panic cause that's not a good way of life. The individuals of Florida know the risks better than anyone else and to see Washington Post showcase an article telling everyone why they should be scared is hilarious.
"A major storm could easily destroy any city, any where, any time" This is such a dumb point to try to make, each city is not at equal risk to natural disasters to every other city on the planet, and not every city is equally prepared to deal with oncoming disasters.
If you live in Tampa Bay you probably know exactly why nothing's being done about it. The local governments in this area take years to accomplish anything; "progress" is practically a four-letter word, and any notion of smart infrastructural planning is quickly buried under red tape and politics. A mass transit system for Tampa has been debated for decades, with not so much as a competent bus system to show for it, and as a result the city has clogged streets every day. The Sunshine Skyway bridge had to be hit by a boat and collapse before it was upgraded to adequate specifications. The light rail system proposed by the federal government (which offered to pay a significant portion of) for Tampa and other cities was shot down by Republican governor Rick $cott because the idea came from a Democratic administration and sounded too, you know, progressive. Starting to see the pattern here? Nothing will be done about the fact that Pinellas County is a giant spoon resting just barely on top of the Gulf of Mexico until it gets submerged by a hurricane or global warming (or, as the case may now be, a hurricane caused in part by global warming).

The problem is the builders, build homes with only wood and sheetrock, if they would build them with cement, cynder blocks or something stronger for that matter the homes would survive a lot more. The politicians need to do something about that. Homes in Tornado alleys should be built with underground shelters, hurricane prone states like Florida should be built with stronger materials and a category 5+ resistant walls just like the college dorms and other buildings.
NutNbutSpeed I live in Polk County, which is inland and also a fast-growing region of the state and I don't think I have ever seen a house built with wood framing for the walls. All new homes are built with concrete block walls or concrete slabs. Not sure what the building code requires for new homes, but a Florida room built on a family member's home in 2006 was built to withstand 115mph winds (this is about 30-40 miles inland). Coastal areas have much more stringent building codes.
I grew up and speaking for myself I got used to it and take the risk, living here since 1983 so it would be devastating but my family and life are here.
I think it's funny how many people below that live in Tampa Bay act like they have been hit by every level of hurricane, that is bullshit unless they went through hurricane Donna in the 1960s. I have been in every level hurricane in my life in South Miami and the worst in my opinion was small but dangerous in hurricane Andrew. I am sorry but I seen how Floridians respond and run from hurricanes and the method normally used in travels from a hurricane is not accurate. Tampa Bay residents really are not prepared and it's scary. They are prepared for the best they can for their homes but not their lives. If a hurricane like Donna or Andrew hit here it indeed would be a major wake up call to many. Now grant in, nobody should be overly concerned of a tropical storm to cat 2. Concerns should start at a cat 3 to some degree. Cat 4 would for sure me dangerous and cat 5 or greater would be a wrath that nobody would be safe and alot of devastating effects will be happening. A cat 4 or 5 would be a strong wake up call to those being big and bad in their comments below.
As someone who lived in that area for two years I can assert without doubt that a major catastrophe is just a matter of time. The town wherein I lived had major flooding, bridges and roads covered by water, during what were locally considered to be 'minor' tropical storms. The significance that areas of town which had flooded twice in fifty years were now flooding three times in two years seemed to be lost on many locals. Many Floridians simply choose not to believe in climate change (which helped me sell my house there, but still...). Also the local republican governments permit new construction in low-lying areas which will be even more prone to flooding.
Actually I hope I'm dead wrong as I still know people in the area (they've evacuated). About two weeks after I wrote this, another tropical storm hit and the low areas near where I lived (Bradenton area) flooded AGAIN. So that made it four floods since 2010.
How would a Cat 5 hit Tampa? Due to its location an Atlantic hurricane would most likely make landfall on the opposite cost of Florida and weakean by time it reaches Tampa. Unless maybe it's a Pacific hurricane that hits Mexico, enters the gulf and then re-energizes to a cat 5?
Hurricanes commonly travel west through the caribbean then turn north and enter the Gulf of Mexico between Cuba and the Yucatan and circle back NE towards Florida's gulf coast. Hurricane Charley in 2004 came super close to nailing Tampa Bay with a direct hit as a strong category 4 with 150 mph sustained winds, 5 mph short of being classified a category 5 hurricane, only to turn inland at the last second and make landfall near Punta Gorda.
Mega Nox If you want to be Mr. Technical, you're wrong as well since it's technically 157 mph. But let's not be pedantic. Doesn't change my point tgat Charley was a strong cat 4 nearly a cat 5
We just had Hurricane Michael and it was 3 mph from Cat 5. It originated in the Gulf of Mexico. Look what happened to Mexico Beach city. Would be really massive in Tampa Bay Area.
This prediction is actually spot-on. A major hurricane really is on the way to destroy paradise... In the words of famous star Jack Nicholson, "Heeeeeeere's IRMA!!"
Then why are banks still loaning money for beachfront property and homes ? They're not worried of losing money so ....maybe it Oht a global catastrophe. Maybe it isn't an emergency.
What people do not understand... if it hasn't happened to them is that whenever they say that the tidal surge will be above your house... they believe their house will still be their... only submerged ...but fact is your house will not be there ...it will be gone ...if you don't believe.. look up Bolivar Peninsula Texas hurricane Ike... Those homes On bolivar peninsula were very well Built and very well anchored... Also look up Holly beach Louisiana hurricane Rita
lived here my whole life.. me and no one is panicked . we are over due . but we been throught alot of close calls and out skirts of hurricanes. no big deal
What's up with mentioning "Climate change"? Obviously Dane Wigington is a scientist you have had to deliberately ignore. With that, I can assert that avoiding Geoengineering makes you part of the problem which you decry.
That's really scary how many people around this area are not aware or do not feel as though a major hurricane would not be a threat but if we did get hit by a category 4 or 5 it would be absolutely catastrophic way beyond what people think. The storm surge could reach 15-20 feet above where many homes sit, I pray this doesn't happen Because if it did there would be a significant number of fatalities. They are almost completely avoidable and after Charley in 04, then Irma that's to false alarms which increases reluctancy to evacuate. They say number of deaths could be around 2,000 but honestly I would not be surprised if it were more like 5,000 or more deaths.
well the history of hurricanes in tampa is interesting... there's not really been any since the 1920s. It's been only tropical storms and stuff that's not too bad. It's in a good area actually.
@@PadreDProductions wow I didn’t realize I made that comment 4 years ago! And I mentioned how Charley and Irma were close calls and now we can add Ida to the list which really went into our favor because I was actually thinking it was going to hit and thank god it didnt but I feel terrible and hope they recover in SW FL, sad the amount of destruction that was done.
Given enough time the bay will indeed be hit with a cat 5. Climate change has nothing to do with the choice of building in a flood prone area and the consequences of that.
My dream would be to see an 1100 mile wide”cat 6” make landfall just at Tarpon with a tiny eye winds at 190 knots and a 36 foot storm surge. It is possible but highly improbable.

Ppl shouldnt be aloud 2 live in flood zones or low lands .thats just down right stupid..its crazy
Laurie Brazier and then people got to be sent to rescue and help out their ass
Well a storm is brewing, will this be the one that hits Tampa
That depends if these alleged Indians that protected the land still protects the land but as we know most storms bypass us
Nah
This prediction is actually spot-on. A major hurricane really is on the way to destroy paradise... In the words of famous star Jack Nicholson, "Heeeeeeere's IRMA!!"
“Betting on a bright future…” 2024 said hold my beer..,
nashville tennessee
Tampa bay Buccaneers
This actually aged hella well just destroyed Tampa
Well, there you go, the bed is made.
Well you predicted irma
Tampa Bay was damaged by Hurricane Irma, but it didn't peak as Category 5 during the landfall in Tampa.
It peaked to catogory 4 which is pretty close.
This and the Chesapeake Bay is scary af!!
It just arrived and Irma is the one. Brace for impact
Wow. Sounds about right here in 2024
Very unlikely this will ever happen. Just look at the current situation.
LMAOO this city will never be hit
It may be different this time
@@Memessssss we'll see about Milton
How laughable.. after a rain it always looks like this. Are people really this stupid"?
This actually is gonna happen. These guys are on point with the detail of the devastation.
lol
God got us we not worried
Well we’ll we’ll….. here comes hurricane iam
You mean not happening anymore
wow, they called it
dead on
Is anybody else here , reading this after hurricane Ian
Anyone watching this as hurricane Irma approaches Tampa bay?

Anon Jup..
lived here my whole life.. me and no one is panicked .
we are over due .
but we been throught alot of close calls and out skirts of hurricanes. no big deal
That's pretty true I do agree with you
What's up with mentioning "Climate change"? Obviously Dane Wigington is a scientist you have had to deliberately ignore. With that, I can assert that avoiding Geoengineering makes you part of the problem which you decry.
Now it's here... Florida Keys, Miami and probably Tampa
Well I hope you're wrong because there's one coming right now and I'm staying for it. Please pray for me and the others in the area.
@@PadreDProductions you’re fucked. Did you see the water ?
@@PadreDProductions wow I didn’t realize I made that comment 4 years ago! And I mentioned how Charley and Irma were close calls and now we can add Ida to the list which really went into our favor because I was actually thinking it was going to hit and thank god it didnt but I feel terrible and hope they recover in SW FL, sad the amount of destruction that was done.
@@alexwhite3158 It's starting to look like the old Indian Secret burial mound Legends are actually true! Dodged another bullet!
2021 is supposed to be another active season this may be it
Yep.
Thanyougod
Given enough time the bay will indeed be hit with a cat 5. Climate change has nothing to do with the choice of building in a flood prone area and the consequences of that.
My dream would be to see an 1100 mile wide”cat 6” make landfall just at Tarpon with a tiny eye winds at 190 knots and a 36 foot storm surge. It is possible but highly improbable.
gawddamnit. cross Tampa Bay off my list of places to live. Florida out. California out. Kansas City here i come.
the last prediction show that Irma is heading toward Tampa bay, let hope it miss
Lmao Hurricane Irma didn’t do anything In Tampa we just ate that shit it but y’all keep thinkin what you want I guess we are gonna die
That's why am buying on Brandon. Far enough from the gulf to escape ocean surge and close to tampa
