  • This is the ultimate window hanging experiance, extreme train spotting at its best. The location is Silverhill Colliery and we are in the last few months of Class 20 use on MGRs. We are on board a fully loaded MGR from the now closed Silverhill Colliery in Nottinghamshire, 20169 and 20215 ease the train out of the yards and onto the branch before pouring on the power...mmmm.....mmmmm.
    Finally we see the pair leaving Tibshelf sidings and heading on to Ratclff power station.
    This was filmed during February 1992.

    Memories are made of this. ( If you know what I mean.) If you don't, you have no idea what you missed.

    ahh! Brilliant the 1980's traction! the days were there were proper trains, no jobsworth station managers or a single class 66 shed hauling 23/25 HHAs behind it, in sight! truly a great experience for you and a joy to watch. thank you very much for posting :)

    Nice bit of chopper thrash there, and also nice to see some BR drivers allowing people to film all of this.

    Wonderful! Throaty British locomotives doing something useful :)
    Used to listen to the curiously reassuring sound of pairs of these throbbing their way up to Calverton in the early hours of the morning on hot summer nights. A sound which will sadly never be heard again.

    If I won the Lottery I would buy a couple of 20's , restore them to pristine BR blue and run free railtours.

    I used to live in the same area as this video was taken, and have visited this Colliery many times walking the dogs, but I never knew the Colliery looked anything like it did at the beginning of the video, just a bugger of being born in the mid 90's, Fantastic video.

    Excellent footage.
    One of my favourite sights is double-headed 20s on MGR. Another was 76s but they went much earlier.

    Class 20s are old reliables! Fact: their the oldest loco type still in use.

    • @boxcarwillies1603
      @boxcarwillies1603 8 років тому +2

      technically, they're diesel hydraulic engines, and they are only used for shunting purposes. Class 20s on the other hand, are diesel electrics and are used for long ranged freight work. Basically, 20s are the oldest long term engines, if you want me to put it that way.

    • @EvatronX
      @EvatronX 8 років тому

      but theyre all still classed at locomotives, wouldnt you agree?

    • @boxcarwillies1603
      @boxcarwillies1603 8 років тому

      Well, technically speaking they're classified as diesel Hydraulic engines.

    • @eddywilliams6212
      @eddywilliams6212 8 років тому

      +Boxcarwillie2002 (Whistle Stop 2247) they are diesel electric. They have traction motors.

    • @boxcarwillies1603
      @boxcarwillies1603 8 років тому

      no, class 08 engines have hydraulic transmissions as to increase traffic effort, also, class 20s are the oldest MAINLINE diesels, where as 08s never escaped the yard.
