  • The Predator 3500 is a new generator from Harbor Freight. It is designed to run super quiet and provides clean inverter energy that is safe for electronics and sensitive devices.
    This generator weights 100lbs, but thanks to the design is quite portable. It is designed to work as an RV generator, camping generator, tailgating generator, or backup power source. It also features the ability to run a parallel connection kit that will connect two Predator 3500 generators together to provide 6000 running watts of power.
    The initial impressions are very impressive. It is certainly a step forward for Harbor Freight in terms of initial build quality. The next video will feature startup and running of the generator, so stay tuned!

    Sharing this info is because i have extensive use with this generator. I live in the Virgin Islands and have been threw 3 hurricanes in 2 years. one power outage lasted nearly 5 months. and still we have power outages often.
    That being said, i have 1500 hours on my predator and have it hooked up to a 8 unit vacation rental via manual transfer switch
    ( critical loads) no hot water heater. but damn near everything else. Not ruffing it. Kinda shocked what the generator can energize
    during the 1500 hours it has run at 90% load almost the hole time . many days i didn't turn it off fueled while running ( not recommended) i have been incredibly impressed with the unit and because of its performance at least 10 friends have purchased them.
    if you dont run it for a while make sure to drain the bowl on the carb, there is a small flat head screw it will take 1 minute to do start to finish.
    2.5 gallons will last about 8 hours on high load and have had it run 17 hours on one tank
    there was a point in time when my life revolved around fueling a predator 3500 and drinking lots beer or whiskey to pass time
    (couldn't leave the house while on 24 h curfew)
    both Jameson and what ever beer you kind find in a emergency situation endorse this product

    I'm a welder and an R.V. enthusiast and a camper/ outdoorsman.. this is a must have item.. it compares to a Honda generator which is far more expensive.
    I would rather buy one of these. Better value and u can still get a warranty. That's a win win...
    Good purchase.

    I went out on a limb and bought one of these two weeks ago. Until now, I NEVER buy anything from HF that has an electrical cord attached. But, I'd read SO many great reviews on this generator I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. So far I'm totally pleased and impressed with it. Quiet is almost an understatement. It really IS quiet. They also claim it's "lightweight", but that's only if your name is Hercules. At a 100 pounds it's tough to heft up onto the tailgate of your F-350 pickup. Once there though, it's ready to power our a/c in our RV. Barely a hiccup when I turn on the a/c, and it holds a steady 124 volts. Loving it so far.
    It looks a lot like the Honda 3500 watt generator, but then, the Chinese are masters at stealing other's technology and copying it to their own. This is a good example. I caught the sale price of $649 and also bought the two year Harbor Freight extended warranty jusssssst to be sure. I'm still not a total HF believer yet, but I'm giving them a chance with this unit.

      +MrTommy001 thanks for sharing. I'm fairly impressed with it too. HF is a mixed bag. Some things are ok for the money, others may be junk. I totally agree on the "lightweight" being a joke. It's not 1-person portable for the average person.

    Wow harbor freight is really stepping it up with their products. Between Bauer and Hercules drills/ impacts etc. and now this pretty sweet inverter generator. I wonder how they do it sometimes but I've noticed they don't seem to have their 20% off of your entire purchase anymore and less sales on some items. I do try my hardest to find a specific coupon for what I'm buying though as well as a 20% off another item. Can't forget about their free stuff too. Lol. Looking forward to seeing more videos on this inverter generator.

      Love2boat92 if you go in the store, they give you 20% coupons for the next weekend (don't work that day). but they did stop posting the 20% coupons on the site, and sending 20% in emails. I am a inside track club member, so I get more coupons, but you have to really look to find one online that work that day.

    Bought one in Oct 2019, unboxed 96 days later it in Jan 2020 found the starter would not function. The rope starter was easy to pull and start even in very low temps. The warranty was 90 days and it had been in the box for 96 days, great. Went in and pleaded my case and was told if I purchased the extended warranty that they would replace it. $175 later I have a replacement. Will unbox it soon as the power has been going out pretty frequently this winter in NE Washington. The generator is quiet when running and will be a good emergency back up for the refrigerator for extended power outages. One thing I was told by Harbor Freight is that there are no service parts available for these generators, so they are good till they drop. Maybe the major brands are worth the extra money. When I purchased the generator it was $750, add the #175 extended warranty with no service parts available makes me rethink the value in the Chinese stuff.

  • @Ira88881
    @Ira88881 4 роки тому +1

    I just bought one last week, and here’s something I learned after the fact. It wouldn’t be a game changer for me because of so many great reviews I’ve seen on this, but...
    No one...including HF...sells a replacement battery for this that will fit in that compartment. It’s unbelievable to think this is possible, but it is.
    So use a battery tender on it, or trickle charger, or fire this up REGULARLY to keep this battery alive as long as possible. After that, it’s wiring to use an external battery, or using the pull handle.
    I never heard of anything so stupid in my life, especially since if your battery dies within the regular 90-day warranty, or even within the extended warranty (2 years!)...they’ll replace your entire unit!
    Of course, they won’t cover the medical expenses for your hernia bringing it back to the store.

      KevCentral Man, why don’t you pull out a tape measure!
      The battery compartment is only 4 1/2” wide!!!

    • @KevCentral
      @KevCentral  4 роки тому +1

      I misread your comment on sizing. I don’t have that generator anymore, so measuring isn’t possible. I would find it odd that a replacement isn’t available somewhere as there are other companies that sell basically the same generator under different names. That being said, it is crazy that HF doesn’t have a battery that fits it.

    • @KevCentral

      +Milosz Ostrow 👍 So far, so good. I just crossed 8 hours and completed the first oil change. I totally understand granting time for it to prove itself. Overall I'm impressed, but time will tell how long that feeling lasts. I did change the spark plug. The thought of a Torch plug in a $700 generator wasn't something I could tolerate. It's now NKG equipped. It is worth more that not all China rubber and seals are the same. It's dependent on the purchaser to ensure they demand quality. My last Yamaha cycle was made in Taiwan. Other than the mfg plate I would have never suspected it was anything but a quality Japanese product. Thanks for commenting.

    I'm thinking that the warning about filling the unit from a plastic -not metal- gas can is to prevent an accidental static spark from being created by contact with the metal fuel tank on the generator. If the fuel tank was plastic, there would be no need for concern.

  • @grantp8833

    In not using gas from a metal gas can you help minimize the danger of static spark from metal gas can to metal gas tank.

    Hi Kev, Thanks again for all your generator videos...I still don't own one and a couple of years ago POURED over reviews for the lesser expensive ones I could afford....so many negative reviews UNTIL I read on by a guy who said that all those negative reviews were because people NEED to do some breaking in and make a few substitutions from the stock materals, whether it be lubricants or gas or spark plugs (I don't recall)...BUT, it DID give me hope that if you treat a non--honda or non-yamaha well and get it broken in properly, then you don't have to be worried about it failing on you unnecessarily early. WHEN DO YOU THINK YOU WILL DO MORE VIDEOS WITH THIS GENERATOR? Thanks!! _John

      You want to be careful with what you are using such a generator for. European electric standards are not just different voltage but also in cycles. They use 230v at 50hz. Running devices designed for 60hz operation at 50hz is not advisable, especially devices with AC motors. Personally, I would not run anything I care about on a 50hz if it was designed for 60hz service.

I also have two friends that are home remodeling contractors. If I can I'll ask people what they think about the accessories they use. A concern with such units, to me, is the lack of engine oil filter, given the metallic debris generated in operation. Magnetic fill-plugs (for Yamaha) are available- I've one an their 1.6 kw ("2000W") inverter. Magnet keeps on gathering coating of BAD STUFF. 'Nuff said.

      @jacquesblaque7728 7 років тому

      That misses the point. IMO you don't want much/any runtime with metal bits in the soup. Do you think that's why cars have had a means of oil filtration since way back? Even such 80 cc engines are not cheap.

    • @TheBradwcc
      @TheBradwcc 7 років тому +1

      I didn't miss your point. It's a valid point. The problem is, no generator in this class has a oil filter. So, if you want one you'll have to change the oil more if it bothers you. They are designed and engineered without a filter and have oil change intervals that compensate for that fact.

    It says 57 dB noise level but I suspect that is a 25% load, not full load. I looked at the information to see what their noise level parameters were but they aren't saying. The real test is under a load. Hook it up to a1500 watt air conditioner and a 1000 watt microwave then see what happens.

    • @KevCentral
      @KevCentral  7 років тому +1

      +Roy Davis In the instructions it says 57dB @ 23ft with 25% load. I haven't loaded it heavily yet. Naturally, it turned into tsunami season as soon as I opened it, but I don't expect it to be super loud even at a heavy load. It's not as loud as my Sportsman Inverter Generator - which I consider very quiet. I'll be doing a dB meter test once the weather clears up. Thanks for commenting.

    • @seanyoung7184

      Not an inverter generator. If cost and running a 120v saw is your only criteria there are very inexpensive options. HFT has a 900w generator that you can buy on sale for less than $100 which will run a small electric chainsaw. If you are talking about a table saw or mitre saw you can get a 4000w traditional generator for about $300.

      I want the quietest generator and those 2 are neck in neck with each other.
      After watching all these videos it seems like people are raving over this especially how quiet it is.
      The reason I can’t let go of the Honda is when I was in New York, a lot of the food stands we’re using the Honda and it blew me away with how quiet it was. I bought a Ryobi 1800/2300 inverter and that damn thing was so insanely loud I returned it. I have a video of that one.
