That's what I've been told or if one doesn't turn out quite right you have an extra to make an even dozen the baker could. Then still can eat damaged one to see what went wrong. 😁
Also, Bakers used to give 13 donuts when you ordered a dozen. As a kid I always got to eat the extra one if I was with the parent picking them up. I am sure my brother got the same if he went. I haven't found any bakeries that provide that deal in a long time though.

This “cheating” provoked King Henry III to pass a strict law-selling bread below the standard weight and size, and overcharging for it, got you roughed up or tossed in a jail cell. Many bakers didn’t want to risk it, so to reduce any margin of error, they often included an additional loaf of bread in their normal dozen, just to be safe.” Measuring scales weren’t common back then either, so it was difficult for a baker to be exact in their baking. I've spent time across this country. Even 70 in California, where i did basic training , has always been. As an example , a donut , cookie shop etc . When you ask for a bakers dozen and they will give you 13 . My mother owned 4 restaurants and was the head chef at the Holiday Inn and conference center. When I was a child, no bigger than a tadpole . When a customer requested a bakers dozen. They received 13 of whatever it was . So I have to go with Matt on this one . I'm really happy my prayers, along with many others, was answered for LeeAnn.

It used to be when you went to a donut shop and bought 12 donuts they threw one more in for free which became a bakers dozen. Cookies were done the same way. It is rare for bakeries to do it now. If one of the dogs was put into the pen with the babies I bet the goats would adjust and learn that the dogs will protect them and not be afraid of them. You are doing a great job Matt.❤❤❤❤❤
