In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

I'm very impressed with your videos. My plan is that when I get my new 1980 Vexus I'll drive the 9 hours to Kansas and have Russell Marine (preferably you) install my electronics. Thanks for your great videos.

Really appreciate these videos. One slight criticism, please show some of these specific placements with closeups. Just so we can make sure we are putting things the correct direction when switching up.

Josh I was curious why you guys did not run a wire from the small silver wire connection? Garmin told me to run a ground wire to that as well. I was not sure why but that is what I was told from Garmin tech support. Good tips by the way.

What is the difference in mounting the transducer on the trolling motor shaft vs the head?

  • @ericg9328

Why would you mount the transducer to your trolling motor shaft? Is this only meant to be used when you are anchored?

The In-line fuse that you used, was it just connected to the red wire on the power? I’ve never installed one before and I’ll be doing it soon.

Well after doing this my set up is definitely reading backwards. If I turn the trolling motor backwards it will read in front of the boat

What gauge wire is used for the fuse link? It doesn't look like very heavy wire. I would think by installing the fuse in the back of the boat you would be defeating the whole idea of running a heavy wire from the battery to the unit...since the wire on the fuse line looks much smaller than 10 or 8 ga wire. JMO . I have read where you need to run 6 to 10 ga wire depending on how long the run is...which it looks like the power wire going to the front here is pretty small...?

Good observation. What you are trying to do is minimize the voltage drop across the length of the conductor. Less than a 3% drop for the run. By using larger wire for the run you are minimizing the resistance for that distance. Think of the voltage drop like an equation. The voltage drop over the thin cable on the black box plug + drop of the larger wire = total drop. It's not necessarily a 'weakest link' situation. Also, don't forget that the negative wire is counted when calculating the voltage drop. So a 10ft distance from the battery to the black box is really 20ft. It's fused at 7.5A so the voltage drop is 1.9% with 12AWG wire. Within the 3% max.

Pretty Shure if the wires are that small inside it want last long at all turning all the time on the trolling motor

I put mine in the forward storage compartment. Still can see it for troubleshooting, get to plugs, and within reach of the LVS32 cable.

    I own a 2016 FX21 ,
I have an extra accessory power cable up front under the bow graph. can I use that to get power to the black box and 1022 graph I bought?

    • @swburton316
      @swburton316 4 роки тому

run dedicated power! you'll get graphs shutting off or blinking when you start your motor. graphs are very voltage sensitive. always always always always best to run dedicated power, or at the very least to a power block. no to accessory switches!

Mine often shows that transducer not found and I have to unplug the power cord from the module to reset it. Very frustrating while tournament fishing. Don’t install the module where you can’t access it quickly.

We have heard a few cases of that lately. Make sure you have it on dedicated power. If it continues might consider stepping up wire size to 14 or 12ga.

Can you substitute a circuit breaker between battery and black box setup to use as cutoff switch?
