    Young people today need to hear the music, the instruments magic and the messages that songs used to have. It takes us into our imagination.....I keep coming back to this song

    This is the one song I dream of singing on AGT with a powerful soprano voice and a sultry look.
    The brass and violin take you to great heights!

    One of my forever favorite pieces by the Modern Jazz Quartet, in a form I never would have expected!
    As a youngster I was introduced to Nelson Eddy records at my great aunt's home, and I can again (almost) experience that.

    What a glorious feast for the eyes..of spectacular views of the magnificent sunrise! So appropriate for this time of the season when we are celebrating our Lord's resurrection on that wondrous Easter morning! I can only feel humbled by the majesty of God's creation of our beautiful universe and the gift of Nelson Eddy in our lives. Not only was he a gorgeous specimen of humanity but he was also endowed with a perfect voice that he always projected from the inner depths of his soul!

    Once again Baz you have given us beautiful scenery, the glorious voice of Nelson a man who no singer could ever match, and a sense of happiness that he is still in our lives. Thank you too Vonnie for the beautiful coloring.

    Marvelous. Although I don't think Eddy was at his best here (or maybe it was the sound record.) Here, I think he comes in third, behind the instrumental and the photos, which are just spectacular.

      Yes, while I love NE, the orchestra, especially the violin steals the show, here.

      The recording is from Volume 3 of the album set '101 Glorious Melodies from Operetta' a special release by Readers Digest. No artist was given but I suspect it was played by the London Promenade Orchestra.

    I prefer the original lyric. But I guess when this version was recorded, referring to hell in a pop song was frowned upon.

    Richard Tauber sings it much better...Eddy isn’t a great singer,

    • @toff358
      @toff358 3 роки тому +4

      A strange observation. Tauber a very fine tenor with a medium sized voice, a consumate artist but, as much I`ve always admired him, no impressive tenorial top range to his voice. Eddy a no less fine baritone who had a prominent opera (which included guest appearances at the Met) and concert career of a dozen years before (and in concertising after) establishing himself in films, the voice an actually large resonant baritone with a basso range at the bottom and, when young, an almost tenor range at the top, along with a quite phenomenal mastery of breath control, perhaps no better displayed than in the Porter`s song from 'Martha". Both were great artists and no two singers of whatever vocal category can ever sensibly be judged on the basis of their interpretation of a particular song.

      You don’t know enough to make that ridiculous comment. One of the most famous and sort after singers of the period. He made millions of dollars.
      Not his best recording I would agree.
