Many thanks from the UK for your tutorial - it saved me paying garage labour rates! I found that I didn't have to remove the glass completely. Once I released it from the holders, I simply pushed it up in the frame a few inches and wedged a piece of card between the glass and rubber channel to stop it slipping back down. I also added a strip of Duct tape from the glass to top of door frame for extra support!
Excellent video. My son (age 12) and I replaced the window motor and regulator just a few moments ago. It was the driver's side on a 2000 Ford Focus. The video went perfectly step by step. Just finished installing my regulator in my 2004 wagon. What a breeze! They have come a long way since I changed out my 1976 Gremlin regulator. One thing Mike didn't cover (or I missed), there is a plastic hold down & the plastic tab (Mike calls it) that holds down the cable cross to the center of the door. They need to be transferred to the new piece. Other than that, it's as simple as the video. I may add, to reattach your window buttons & lock switches once you have the regulator tightened down and the window in and give it a few test runs before you put it back together. Happy Motoring! Great video, very helpful. Rather than removing the glass, I used a piece of duct tape to secure the glass in place. I put the duct tape over the top of the door frame to keep the window from falling into the door. Hoping this small tip helps.

Every window that I've had break, which is up to 5 or 6 now, has not been the cable. It's been those white plastic clips that attach the window to the rails. Unfortunately you can't replace just the clips. If you get a better quality regulator like the 10 year warranty 1 from am auto, you will notice that these plastic clips have a thick metal wire through the middle to reinforce them. The cheap one's don't and those clips will snap again. I had that happen once a week after I replaced the old one. After the first couple, I got tired of spending $100+ to have them replaced and learned how to do it myself thanks to videos like this. Now it costs me $46 and an hour or so of my time.

Thank you @1A Auto for this vid. It took me a little bit longer than 12 minutes to change out the regulator on my 2002 SE ;-) but between the vid and my Haynes manual everything went pretty smoothly. Removing & replacing the regulator itself was not that big of a deal, except that one of the M6 bolts that mount the reg. to the door frame stripped out when I was removing the old reg. Fortunately I found a short M6 bolt in my "bucket o' bolts". The bolt I found is a Phillips drive instead of a hex drive, but hey, it works! The most challenging part of the job was removing & replacing the interior trim and what not. I invented some new words (!) while dealing with that!

Great video!! Last night, just like you said, I heard a POP from my girlfriends '02 Ford Focus drivers side window, and sure enough the window wouldnt roll up or down. Found your video this morning and it really helped me as Ive never replaced a window regulator before! I was going to go to the junk yard to pick up a used regulator, but figured that an additional 60 dollars for a new one with a lifetime warranty was worth the extra money and time it wouldve taken me to uninstall one from the junk yard. Installing the regulator was really easy I surprised myself. Again thanks for this video!!!

Great video instructions...could not have been more clear. I did a 2000 focus and ran into one issue. The motor on the new part was a bit offset from the original and the wiring harness that is clipped to the door was in the way. I had to drive out the clip and run it a little above the motor on the new part. Still was nice and tight against the inner for frame but wire tied it back just in case. The tutorial is indeed excellent, it would have saved me some brain-work if I had watched it first. However, the way to release the handle cover is through and access hole under the handle. Stick a small screwdriver through the hole and pry the cover off. This will prevent scratching up the door handle.
If you are having issues getting the window to come up and down, you should attempt to remove the motor, if you cannot access the motor bolts, you will have to cut the metal cable to free up the window so it can slide up and down.

Hey guys I love this video big help! Question though, my brother was driving my 2007 Ford Focus, attempted to throw some Tea out the window, apparently it got all over the window. He rolled it all the way down, when he got it back 30 minutes later the window does not come back up. There's no cracking or popping but you hear the motor trying. Can I just clean the motor in some way?

Is the disassembly pretty much the same for the rear seat window, its loose and kinda jammed half way down so Im thinking (from watching your vid here) its popped out of the clamps. The window was frosted/iced up and my son wound the rear instead of the front down and there was a big clunk. I've watched a number of your vids, they are really helpful, thanks again.

I have a Ford Focus -01 1.6l motor where the window regulator all of a sudden didn´t worked when i pushed the button. No grinding sound or anything at all, it just happened. I can hear a klicking from a relay, which seem to be inside the dorr, when i push the button but nothing happens so im clueless, maybe the motor? Will the panel with screws and such be pretty much exactly the same for my car then for the car in the video?
Hey 1A, thanks for ur vid, I have an issue that wasnt covered in the video.My window was pulled out of its clips and fell inside the door. I got my door open and inside it I found that the clips that hold the window(shown at 4:58)were broken off and laying on the bottom of the door.I dont think my regulator is broken since the holders arent in to hold it up. It looks like the plastic pieces that hold them are broken. Is there a way to replace those parts and reattach the clips to the bars again?
mike i have the same car but the wagon model. this popping sound just started but it is only once in a while. and only once in a while the window wont come down think its time for a new regulator or could it be the switch ?

I got as far as pulling back the water shield after taking the door panel off, but now I have a new issue. The plastic that lines the shield is completely melted onto the metal. Is it time to take it into a shop or is this something I can fix?
Thank you for watching. You may be able to take care of it yourself. Peel it back and see if you can re stick it or you can use some tape to re attachment. It is just a barrier to keep dirt from getting inside the window track and does not need to be perfect. Hope this helps! 888-844-3393

I try to install elecitric side mirrors on my Ford Fusion ( its look like this focus) but the problem is I do not have the cables to the switch and the mirror, I know that I need to replace the entire cable harness ... wonder if there is another way or you could add a clip on youtube ??

Hey 1A Auto, I just got problem again with my Ford focus 2000. Passenger side window stopped working, without cracking, or anything. The day before was working and the other day, nothing, pressing that switch and nothing even sound or cracks. What could it be? My car stays outside could it be from the rain that we have these days in my country? Thanks in advance, I hope for an answer from you :)
Thank you for watching! It could be the motor or the switch. To verify the door panel will need to come off. You then disconnect the electrical connector for the motor and put a test light/multi meter to the vehicles side. You should have power at the connector when a activating the switch. If you have power in both the up and down positions then its most likely the motor. If you find you have power in one direction but not the other then you know it is the switch. 1A Auto Parts Thanks for your answer 1A Auto, you never let me down. Yesterday I red some "bro tip" from a guy that had this problem. Turns out that if I click on the switch button and hold it, while slam the door it got it work again. Now it works without problem. Do I need to clean the motor for this not happen again (some WD40 or..)? Thanks man and cheers :)
I wonder why the US models are using a bunch of different sized bolts in the door when the MK1 european models use philips head screws so you just need a screwdriver to get the panel off

You may want to have a leak test done on it. They'll put dye in the Freon that should show you where the leak is coming from.

Will the panel with screws and such be pretty much exactly the same for my car then for the car in the video?

Hey 1A, thanks for ur vid, I have an issue that wasnt covered in the video.My window was pulled out of its clips and fell inside the door. I got my door open and inside it I found that the clips that hold the window(shown at 4:58)were broken off and laying on the bottom of the door.I dont think my regulator is broken since the holders arent in to hold it up. It looks like the plastic pieces that hold them are broken. Is there a way to replace those parts and reattach the clips to the bars again?
mike i have the same car but the wagon model. this popping sound just started but it is only once in a while. and only once in a while the window wont come down think its time for a new regulator or could it be the switch ?

I got as far as pulling back the water shield after taking the door panel off, but now I have a new issue. The plastic that lines the shield is completely melted onto the metal. Is it time to take it into a shop or is this something I can fix?
Thank you for watching. You may be able to take care of it yourself. Peel it back and see if you can re stick it or you can use some tape to re attachment. It is just a barrier to keep dirt from getting inside the window track and does not need to be perfect. Hope this helps!

hey i need some help over here ... I try to install elecitric side mirrors on my Ford Fusion ( its look like this focus) but the problem is I do not have the cables to the switch and the mirror, I know that I need to replace the entire cable harness ... wonder if there is another way or you could add a clip on youtube ??

Hi i'm having trouble moving the window down by hand as it is stuck in its highest postion, any help would be appreciated please?
You also need a T30 torx if you want to take the motor off the regulator and put it on the new one.

I just got problem again with my Ford focus 2000. Passenger side window stopped working, without cracking, or anything. The day before was working and the other day, nothing, pressing that switch and nothing even sound or cracks. What could it be? My car stays outside could it be from the rain that we have these days in my country?

Thank you for watching! It could be the motor or the switch. To verify the door panel will need to come off. You then disconnect the electrical connector for the motor and put a test light/multi meter to the vehicles side. You should have power at the connector when a activating the switch. If you have power in both the up and down positions then its most likely the motor. If you find you have power in one direction but not the other then you know it is the switch. Hope this helps!

1A Auto Parts Thanks for your answer 1A Auto, you never let me down. Yesterday I red some "bro tip" from a guy that had this problem. Turns out that if I click on the switch button and hold it, while slam the door it got it work again. Now it works without problem. Do I need to clean the motor for this not happen again (some WD40 or..)?

You can use a spray White Lithium grease, it is tackier than WD40 and will stay in the tack.

I wonder why the US models are using a bunch of different sized bolts in the door when the MK1 european models use philips head screws so you just need a screwdriver to get the panel off
