Wow that is freakin cool I saw it not too long ago at Home Depot but i wasn’t convinced to buy it But what convinced me now not only how you explained how to use it but even the incorporated chisel in the jig You actually spoon fed how to use this jig A million times thanks HOME DEPOT YOU NEED TO PAY THIS GUY IMMEDIATELY 👍👍
I have this tool and it works pretty good but did have a couple tear outs of the wood here and there. Great tool a must for any DYIer or professional. I also saw you used the door hinge router template they sell. I just discovered this had to go to 4 Home Depots to find one. Worth it's weight in gold. I ordered 3 more so I could set them up on one door with two or three hinges rout them all without having to move the one tool around got one extra in case one gets broken.
Not sure why so many negative comments on here. Very thorough and is clear you are a bit of a perfectionist, nothing wrong with that! Especially with some of the sloppy diy stuff you can find on here. Thanks for the in depth video. 👍
Thanks for this video. I just ordered 3 doors at home depot. I was thinking of hiring someone to do this for me, but watching your video, i know i can do this.
I have just one question. My new doors is about 1/4 wider from the old door. Should i use a planer and shave the back of the door? Or the front? Or does it matter?
@@jorrba3934 I am doing doors now and had the same problem. I bought an electric planer and have been shaving the new doors on the hinge side to match the existing width. First door I did wouldn’t close. Don’t think the side matters really, but I figured the hinge side would be less visible if I made a mistake planing
I saw another video on this tool and the guy went crazy hammering step 1 and on step 2 he pushed the tool as far as he could and laid into it. When he was done it looked twice as deep as the striker backing plate. I have 8 solid oak doors to do so I was looking for something to make it more consistent. I like the 1st part, but as far as the 2nd, I think a really sharp chisel would do better. Work from the finished edge to the center. I also cringed when during the 2nd part you get to the end of the cut and have to remove the material. I just know if it were me something would splinter.
how cost effective is that for the weekend warrior who might only ever use this tool and method on 2 to 3 doors ever? Can't see myself buying a router for a couple hinge slots
@@danlux4954 gotcha, I'm sure there are other uses and I'm probably thinking narrow minded, since all I can see is the current project at hand which is a single pantry door my wife wants installed, which requires...everything I don't have to install minus a drill. lol But, as the wife finds more crap for me to do, perhaps a router need would surface indeed.
I really wish I would’ve known this tool existed... I fucked up my door a little, but it’s a $40.00 door and it’s not that bad. I’m getting this though for future projects.
wrong in every way having used these for a number of years i have just found out that if your a professional and use these products you have no warranty claim according to the uk ryobi site.
Good video, however I think you should spend half hour sharpening your chisels. The tool itself is probably ok for DIYers and wouldn't be much use in the Uk. I think I would have been faster using a couple of sharp chisels.
You also got to understand I am a fussy person and I am looking for great results on my projects. Also I am not a professional door installer, just a DIY person.
Make a video and post up. Keep in mind this guy was giving step by step instructions. And the job turned out great. I expect the same from you, but completed in 1/2 the time
So what I took from this video was you’re reviewing a tool you don’t trust to do the job so you took a 2 step process and turned it into a 14 step process with your extra chisels. “Imma put this all the way in then pull out a bit now for a test fit, oh wait it’s not deep enough lemme put the tool ask the way in and do it again “ 😂. I wasted my time watching this video thx
Nice! I can't believe I've been doing it the old-fashioned way without this thing.

thanks for taking time and show whole latch installation, those small details are the big value.
Not a bad gadget really, ryobi are underrated they do a lot of decent quality tools

@@DaddioWaddio Thanks Jason.
I ordered one of those just while ago. Good video. Thank you.
Thanks for this very useful video. Just what I needed.
Thank you bro for the great details
Thanks Ken....you saved my marriage :)
Thanks needed that - especially pushing out the scoring blades - bit of a complicated instrument - a good video like this is needed.
Thanks boss, im goin to home depot in the morning and gonna get it incase i ever need it

It’s funny how all of these installation videos neglect or omit how to use this tool to mortise the door jamb itself.
glue a lair of felt or something to the top to reduce that couple of mill from the depth
I like the router template better. Easier. Quicker. Cleaner look. Perfect depth
Who makes it and where can you find it?
@@thezfunk Ryobi. Home Depot
@@Whoisreal666 it is a latch plate router template? I have been looking for one for the latch plate and couldn't find one

thank you for thisvideo i am going to buy thie ryobi tools, afterv a while crocodile
Great video. Thank you.
Wow someone that's actually helpful. Thanks brother.
Probably advisable to use a rubber mallet if you want the plastic to last. Vocab
pretty easy looking jig - it didn't put the marked outline in the center of the door (looks tight to top edge when installing)
How on earth did we manage for a couple of hundred years or so before Ryobi?

Can the tool be use for the strike plate??
the tool is not made for the door jam strike but you can try it. I assume the tool will not fit right. Let me know if it works
Cool, but I bought a router to install hinges and am using it to route out that hole.

Nice. Thanks for the tips on the Ryobi tool.
Thank you
Does it work on metal doors?
I don't know, I have never tried a metal door.
Thank u
He noticed that when he puts it all the way in it's too deep so he lifts it and then it's not deep enough. That's what she said btw. No pun intended.😂
This was so helpful !!!!
May don't lift up when hammering sideways and you won't have to spend time chiseling.
s00per :)

What about latches with rounded corners?
Good Job...Regards
Nice tool demo. Your chisel needs to be sharpen, looks really dull. :-)
Why do these folk always do a lot of talking and pointing.
What a palaver. Slower than doing it with a chisel...
About 10 minutes too long.......
Sorry about that...
So.....the tool really doesn't work. If you have to spend so much time hand working the fit.

What a load of crap could have done that with chisel in half the time

How thick is your door? 1 and 3/8"?? Ffs
yes, 1 and 3/8 inch thick
