- We bring you the best behind-the-scenes tech from Red Bull Hardline 2023, including a new bike that hasn’t been seen by the public before.
The race is the brainchild of former World Cup downhiller Dan Atherton, who decided World Cup tracks were simply not difficult enough. 2023 marks the ninth running of the event, and every year the riders get better at setting up their bikes for the mammoth challenges of the Hardline course…
We cover bikes of previous winners such as Gee Atherton and three-time winner Bernard Kerr. We also take a look at a pre-production Vitus DH frame that’s barely two weeks old, ridden by twice Red Bull Rampage winner Kyle Strait. We even catch up with former World Cup winner and MTB legend Rob Warner, who shows us a bike that’s a little different from the ones the competitors are racing on!

Kyle strait racing in Wales on a Vitus how cool is that. Nobody would have predicted that a few years ago. It's a shame weather fucked it . I would have loved to see how he would do

So Kenda making a come back to the DH scene. They were totally underrated and I can't wait to get my hands on some again.
I lived my excavators. So much i took em off before they were cooked incase i ever wanna go back. Cant seem to find em.

Rob Warner, legendary dude. I feel the Pivot is a step in the right direction. It looks like the manufacturers are pushing carbon 29ers, but the DH riders are saying look, Aluminium 275 are better, so we will run both at the same time! Note how anything that needs to be strong, i.e. rear wheel, and BB head tube areas, all aluminium. and the rear wheel needs acceleration the most so its a 275, totally makes sense and is a great design. Never know our luck, maybe 29er Carbons will finally die out. hope so.
You can hear how devastated Bernard is - ok I am assuming it but I'm pretty sure im right
put the fastest full run in on the race day just before cancellation. I think there was only one other rider that dared put one in and he only followed Bernard after blocking his path in the forest.

Are they running 27.5/26 or 29/27.5 mullets?
Great question! As this is a DH race rather than a freeride event, they're all running 29/27.5" mullets, just like you would find at a World Cup. Thanks for asking!
