Linkoas people often buy old rare Ferrari’s, Lamborghinis etc etc just to leave them sitting in a garage and never drive them in the hopes to sell them again at auction down the road for a tidy profit. They’re even doing this with brand new cars usually from a limited production run in the hopes that their value will skyrocket as they become future classics, you see this a lot with Porsche GT cars as of late so this is what I mean by buying cars purely as an investment and not for the car itself.
What is so hard about that! I'd be keen but now its verbotten.... The Great RESET....that most dont believe is really happening..When will the boys grow up and get angry?

I agree. It's refreshing as most of the others are obsessed with self image like instagrammer selfie rubbish with silly intro graphics and music. That turns me off. I prefer it like this
Watching this reminded me of being 10 years old and watching For Your Eyes Only for the first time. The sound of the Esprit's engine as it belts along mountain roads, the snow covered mountains, even the scene where Harry drove through that rather pretty little town. It was so much like the film. To these sentimental old eyes anyway. Definitely my favourite Harry's Garage video so far, which is fitting because the Esprit has always been my favourite Bond car of all time, and For Your Eyes Only one of my favourite Bond films. What a wonderful 30 minutes.
It's like going on a trip with an old friend and just chatting about cars as you go along. Just so enjoyable and relaxing. Harry imparts his terrific knowledge and experience without any trace of arrogance. Showing us the route he's going to take on a map book! Brilliant! He's just a perfect companion. I always feel cheered and optimistic after I've watched one of his videos. Don't stop Harry!
absolutely spot on. You've hit the nail on the head. I was trying to work out why I liked his videos so much; its that he talks to you like an old friend. I feel the same with his videos, they always leave me feeling upbeat. He's easily the best on here
Definitely! I subbed after watching a second video. One big plus, is there's no background music whilst he's talking with us. A huge thanks for not ruining it with crappy background music while you're talking. I don't know why some people are compelled to add annoying background music throughout their videos. I never last for more than a minute of crappy music.
Watched every last single second of this video, as usual. There's something wholesome about a fine, humble English gentleman who has an insane collection of the cars I've loved for 30+ years. Good on you, sir.

First video I saw from Harry was the Rolls-Royce trip to the arctic, since then I've watched like every video of yours, and the wife likes the road trip videos too. Thanks Harry, you're a great man.
Went to Le Mans on a road trip in an Esprit turbo in my 20’s which was fantastic to look back on. Now I see this and it takes me back. Best reviews ever. Nothing to prove, no bravado, just good honest reviews and a proper road trip - It doesn’t get any better!!
12:25 I really love you add a perspective on the emissions of a fun car compared to daily transport. This is exactly why fun cars shoudn't be banned at all! Not even from major city centres. For the rest, never knew there was a mountain complete in theme of James Bond, how cool! Awesome drive in an 80's car like that, Love it!
A more interesting comparison would be to a brand new EV. The Lotus get's poor economy...but is already built. The EV has a huge impact when being manufactured. The greenest cars are classics that are already built!
Great garage but no garage queens, instead cars that are driven and driven hard, what is more we (as car enthusiasts) are able to watch them driven, a very big thank you to mr Metcalfe.

Love this channel so much. This guy loves his cars for the cars themselves, not just for the status. Fantastically made vids too - love the shots from the cockpit best - feel like we're in there on the road trip! Keep 'em coming Harry!
Me: Sees notification that Harry's off on a 1k mile trip in his Giugiaro Esprit Turbo Me: Claps happily at the screen like an imbecile, settles in for the next half hour
I like that Harry goes to the extent of addressing the emissions concerns for those concerned about the impact this Lotus has. These road trip videos are my favorite, because we get to see gorgeous machinery eating up the miles while Harry is having a blast behind the wheel.
Harry: Does a European trip in a classic car, checking oil and water himself....other UA-camr, exclaims "It'sh meeeee"and shows off in his latest brand new supercar at 5mph in central London but likely wouldn't know an oil stick from a candle stick...I know who I prefer......
Not gonna white knight for that other youtuber, but I will say that he does take some of his fleet out on UK > EU destination road trips; check out some of those vids as they hit on some of the same real world capabilities of modern exotics. Harry's use of his fleet is amazing, too!
Another wonderful Harry & wife adventure. I've had the good fortune to drive through Austria and thanks to Harry, his trip brought back many pleasant memories. Thanks, again, Harry, and best to the Ms.
What a warm, fuzzy moment. Feels like I’ve actually been on that epic road trip, sat in the passenger seat and poking the camera up Harry’s nose just to hear the pops of the exhaust! Really inspiring me to do another Euro road trip!! *heads to the classifieds *
Always loved the esprit since I first seen it in “the spy who loved me” 1977. Could never afford one 😖. Thank you for posting this video. I have ridden my motorcycle down the same route into Italy, so I know the road. Watching the in car footage is as close as I will ever get to experiencing driving the lotus.🙌🙌. Thanks again.👍.Cheers.
Thanks for another great video Harry. Down to earth, driving, giving it some beans and yet respecting it. Pack up all sorts of stuff for a nice vacation and enjoy the car. That's the way to do it. Plenty of other people doing racing on a racetrack and that's all fine. But I'd rather enjoy your sort of videos. Much more mature and enjoyable. Happy you found your Esprit to be a surprisingly good car. Keep up your good work. And if possible, let's see some more of the Esprit later on and possibly another motorcycle offroad travel video? Kind regards
Thanks Harry! What a pleasure it is to be able to ride shotgun with you again from South Africa. I remember this Esprit which a friend owned back in the day. You have done us all proud once again. Brilliant!
Brilliant trip - loved that - thanks for posting....and entirely get what you mean about being at a ski resort without your skis...super annoying especially on a "bluebird" day!!
Excellent little video Harry, always had a soft spot for Lotus of this era after the brilliant factory sent me a great press pack for a school project I was doing, this was when the S1 Esprit had just been released and I’ve since had a few 70’s/80’s/90’s cars when current. I live in between London and Lyon now so you can imagine where I’m happiest to drive, this really has got my juices flowing for another Lotus to float around France in, really enjoyed this.
Harry - good to see you again; I was really saddened when you went away from EVO, I enjoyed sharing that little journey with you, but I cannae help but cringe at a landrover being permanantly parked ouside on a mountain top. That said I liked your openness about travelling with the Esprit, reminded me of my days runnign a mkII MR2.
Great trip, inspiring me to take my almost identical car to Cortina in Italy, another Bond location, with a friend who has a copper bronze one with Bond style ski racks. The wind noise BTW is from the door frames, it can be reduced by adding the outer rubber seals which they fitted to later Stevens cars, these also fit the G cars. Very easy to fit. Fuel tanks are joined by a large pipe, so effectively are as one.
I remember this was my first Harry's Garage I saw about a year ago. I thought: who is this nice old chap and why does he have a Lotus and why did he sell a very rare Land Rover. After a year I'm one of us who's hooked on the channel and I'm watching this again with different eyes. It feels like a 1 year celebration party.
Another brilliant video thanks Harry. We had similar problems with cabin storage when we did a similar trip. We used cup holders with suction cups that stick on the windows and storage device bags that hang from the back of your headrests. Naff but really useful. Just remember to put your Costa in after you slam the door though. I learned the hard way!!!
Thank you Harry. I am a poor Russian guy from a poor Russian town and your videos motivate me to strive towards a life where I am actually able to travel to spectacular places in spectacular cars, like you.
I enjoy most of your videos but the long trips and adventures in interesting cars are definitely my favourite. I was looking forward to watching this and it didn’t disappoint. Thank you for more top quality content, Harry.
Harry youre the only youtuber i can see that drives his cars and loves using them as intended. great videos and youve earned yourself a sub, ive been on the fringes of subscribing for a few weeks and you kept popping up in recommended. nice guy.
My first trip to Harry's Garage. I love Lotus Esprit and Google knows it. I really enjoyed riding with Harry, bringing back memories of my trips around Europe and the Autobahn many years ago while stationed there. I will definitely visit Harry's Garage again.
Oh, Harry...TOO GOOD! What an amazing treat this vid is, though I was a bit nervous for you at first as I feared unreliability...but this particular Esprit seems really well put together and is such a beauty. Brilliant adventure, and super stunningly impressive car. Many Thanks for this. 👍🏻
Another brilliant Harry's garage video! I had a 1984 Esprit Turbo in Essex blue, back in about 1985 and it was a great car! Handled beautifully looked very cool and remember doing Guildford to South London in about 15 mins - stupid but fun. Lovely car.
Harry, your trip videos are the best on UA-cam and this may be the best of yours. I was SO excited to see 1) The Defender backstory 2) The Lotus Turbo 3) The Bond connection and how 1 and 2 are intertwined. Well done, full marks on this one! PERFECT!
Most Lotueses are tiny when you see them in real life, the old ones (with less safety gear) more so. It's hard to get a sense of scale on a screen. The Elise is about waist height and around as wide as a Fiesta.
My english is not very good but i am working on it. You are speak so clearly that I feel that I understand everything really well. Thank you for your excellent comments. It is a pleasure to listen to you.
I would love that car. I had a Lotus Elan SE turbo once in the 90s and have since fallen on hard times and currently in a Citroen Saxo 1.5 diesel that i am struggling to keep on the road financially even with running it on veg oil LOL
@neil eastell I know but once i clear my bankruptcy and sell my secret stash of crypto currencies i'll buy a fleet of cars and be untouchable behind the iron curtain
As always I love your videos! Enjoy the road trip’s. Sadly, all I have is a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT. 175 horse power. The fastest it has gone is 132 mph but it has a descent back seat and a proper boot. Your camera man does a fantastic job by the way!
Harry, you have motivated me to go back into the garage to fix my esprit ('85). thanks for a lovely video. my first road trip in the esprit will be Austria as well. to the lotus club / museum in bad aussee.
16:05 Fantastic, moving past my hometown on a very familiar stretch of the Autobahn I drive on daily talking about the engine on his Lotus. Made me happy.
Lovely video Harry. I've got a white 85 Esprit Turbo sitting in the garage waiting for my attention. I've had it since 97. I always found it very comfortable to drive and 100% reliable as long as the correct maintenance was done. I stopped using it because try as might I couldn't fit two kids, the wife and a dog in it! Thanks for the inspiration Harry. I feel a spring project coming on!
Back in early 90's my best mate had a S3 Espirit Turbo in red, with the S4 Turbo engine. At 18 years old I was insured to drive it and used to drive it regularly. My mate was a Lotus enthusiast with many Sunbeams, Cortinas, etc in his history. The Espirit was a supercar and we were very young ( I was 21 and he was 25 ) to be in one, we were accosted by people wherever we went. It still looks great in this video.
Seeing your Spectre Defender beat up by ski boots must make the enthusiast's heart hurt a little. I have a lot of admiration for the attitude of actually using all these rare cars. But blasting around a farm and cleaning it up afterwards is something different then just letting the elements (and the dumb ones) weathering a car down.
Most underrated nostalgic thing he does on every road trip is looking at an actual map! Awesome!
Brian Jang Even with a onboard gps, I always have to carry one
My Buds & I ride BMW motorbikes & we always have maps with us.

@@josebinladen2223 Yeah, if you don't care where you end up and which route you took to get there.

He's a class act, a true british gent!
its because he is not financially dependant on youtube...obsession with generating more and more income from videos slowly ruins everything

Lovely car.
Fantastic man. Lovely GT car. I love the concept of a supercar daily driver...and that deliciously natural exhaust overrun pop crackles and boom....
Harry, your trip videos are the best on UA-cam and this may be the best of yours. I was SO excited to see 1) The Defender backstory 2) The Lotus Turbo 3) The Bond connection and how 1 and 2 are intertwined. Well done, full marks on this one!
PERFECT!
Hats off to Mrs. Metcalfe for the filming. Thank you!
Such a stunning vehicle, with such a lovely sound to it. This was quite simply a joy to watch, thank you for sharing it with us all.

Wow, that shot made the car look like a toy.
Was that Harry's first Drone footage?

Probably a kind of stick with a support to film.
Most Lotueses are tiny when you see them in real life, the old ones (with less safety gear) more so. It's hard to get a sense of scale on a screen. The Elise is about waist height and around as wide as a Fiesta.
Harry is one of the only chaps i know who still uses paper road maps. Talk about old school. A real gentleman.
I love the fact that you use these cars and take them on road trips. I’d love to see a long road trip with the Xj c!
Keep your head up. Better times are ahead for sure.
@@CAR_NL thanks man
@@CAR_NLI love your Alfa. I might have to do a vlog of my Citroen Saxo
@@MarriedToTheKGB thanks! It's a great car. Simple, raw and authentic. My first car was a Saxo, so would be nice to see the vlog!
@neil eastell I know but once i clear my bankruptcy and sell my secret stash of crypto currencies i'll buy a fleet of cars and be untouchable behind the iron curtain
What a perfect trip. Thanks for sharing it with us as always, and thanks for making your viewers feel included.
Thanks. It's Mrs.M behind the camera, she'll greatly appreciate your comments, though!
Harry, you have motivated me to go back into the garage to fix my esprit ('85). thanks for a lovely video. my first road trip in the esprit will be Austria as well. to the lotus club / museum in bad aussee.
Loved it at 4.45 when it looked like you were doing 60mph through the train 🤣
Exactly what I was thinking 😂
Another lovely video. I love this real world road trip videos that Harry makes. So down to earth and beautifully presented.
Love the road trip videos. Beautifully filmed. Leaving the car outside the hotel. By the front door. As you would with such a car. Well done. Thanks

16:05 Fantastic, moving past my hometown on a very familiar stretch of the Autobahn I drive on daily talking about the engine on his Lotus. Made me happy.
I always enjoy your road trips ... as always this one was as good as usual .. Thank you ..
Get those spanners out and back on the road before it's too late, you know you want to!
A new road trip video from Harry on Tuesday means the week is already a complete success.
i could watch this man narrating paint drying. i have much respect for him because hes not afraid to drive any of his vehicles.
Can’t beat a Harry vid, this was the best for a while 👍
Back in early 90's my best mate had a S3 Espirit Turbo in red, with the S4 Turbo engine.
Yeah, you can see how dented the hood is. Why would they buy such a rare car to let it get beat. Strange a bond fan would just let it happen
I love these videos how Harry actually really uses these beautiful cars the way they are meant to be.Keep up the great work Harry you are the best.
Just waiting for my dinner to cook then it’s 30 mins of doubtless quality entertainment!
The old Esprit has got a lovely crackle on the overrun, love it.
Love the blaupunkt old/new stereo! Would look perfect in my e30!
Same thoughts here and that Lotus can really scoot on the highway
