That very same Gretsch guitar was stolen from him in a Toronto hotel room in 1976...and he just found it this year 45 years later in Tokyo Japan! Amazing!
This is a mixture of jazz, funk and rock, and the ending looks like progressive jazz-rock, I liked it, now there is practically no such music, in 1975 the guys wrote this masterpiece, great!
Randy’s a great guitarist. I’m 63 and grew up with this but until I had more knowledge of music I didn’t really appreciate how amazing he was/is. Cheers from Montreal
Great lyrics! masterful jazz guitar playing. I FUCKING love this song! Takes me back to mid 70s when I was just 11 year old punk without care in the world.
Randy said that all the songs he writes begin jazzy and he rocks them up to fit whatever band he’s in at the time. Taken in that context, songs like this seem even more apropos.
Found this on a cassette tape of BTO's greatest hits along with Blue Collar Man. Someone below called this fusion of Jazz and light rock. I think of it better as a fusion of rock and blues. Both two of the best tunes BTO ever came up with.
This is probably one of the first "unplugged-esque" videos ever, although the are not acoustic. Just fabulous. Sure miss them. Egos will always destroy.
Excellent song and video !!! I'm glad Randy Bachman got his original guitar back after it was stolen long long ago - after all these years , how did it end up in Japan ? Nice of the people to locate it for Randy , and nice of Randy to make a trade for the original. Good stuff !!! Happy 155th. Birthday Canada !!!
These guys went from The Guess Who to BTO harrd Rock and can do Jazzz too. Check out Blue Collar also another Masterpiece amongst others as well. Well Done Winnipeg Manitoba Canada Hey You Let It Ride
If you had read about the struggles he went through to get where he is, when you listen to the lyrics you would appreciate how much that art imitates life. Several great YT videos about Bachman.
Every day is an endless train You got to ride it to the end of the line Be a troubleshooter, blow the bad luck away And you will make it to your station on time And you'll find out every trick in the book And that's there's only one way to get things done You'll find out the only way to the top Is looking out for number one I mean you keep looking out for number one Every night is a different game We gotta work for our fortune and fame Success is a ladder, take a step at a time And the people will remember your name Yes, I found out all the tricks of the trade And that's there's only one way you're gonna get things done I found out the only way to the top Is looking out for number one And that's me, I'm looking out for number one Every day is an endless train But I ride it to the end of the line I'm a real troubleshooter and I blow it away No one's gonna get what's mine I found out every trick in the book And that's there's only one way to get things done I found out the only way to the top Is looking out for number one I mean you, keep looking out for number one That's us, keep looking out for number one That's me, I'm looking out for number one
This song & "Blue Collar" r the EPITOME OF WHAT B.T.O. REPRESENTS!!!!! GR8 MUSIC REGARDLESS OF THEIR HERITAGE (YET THEIR CANADIAN HERITAGE GIVES THEM AUTOMATIC CREDIBILITY)!!!!! PLEASE DON'T EVER FUCKIN ' 4GET THAT!!!!!
Funny thing about so many recording artists going back showing how a song they recorded, get the chords wrong -- or they say what the chord it is that they're playing and that's wrong too.
The record company probably was bummed hearing this song because while it is quite good it is really Randy Bachman solo stuff. BTO has that hard edged sound and jazz is not a good fit. Again, fine song but not BTO and it appears Randy having gotten his revenge with BTO's success against Burton Cummings & Guess Who got bored and did jazz with BTO.
Just love to see Randy smiling as the camera records.
Love, love, LOVE this song's fusion of jazz and light rock!! Put it on "repeat" and listen all day! Randy, you are a genius.
Wow, wow, and WOW
That very same Gretsch guitar was stolen from him in a Toronto hotel room in 1976...and he just found it this year 45 years later in Tokyo Japan! Amazing!
I don't think you found it somebody found it for him and called him and gave it to him
wow what are the odds that it would end up back in his possession cool!!!!!😊
Shut up old retard@@rlpd5218
THE coolest smoothest BTO song ever! BTO Forever!!
One of my favorite reminders of how much engagingly simpler the music world could be.
This is a mixture of jazz, funk and rock, and the ending looks like progressive jazz-rock, I liked it, now there is practically no such music, in 1975 the guys wrote this masterpiece, great!
Randy's face and this song makes me gain years of life and happiness
Randy Bachman is a guitar legend. Plays jazz soul & rock & roll. What a gem from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada
Randy is criminally underrated imo. He plays so many amazing solos and just creates generally great songs and does not get the respect he should.
Who should we prosecute for this heinous crime?
@@deaterk The American Music Industry. They should b PROSECUTED 4 FUCKIN' OVR IAN THOMAS!!!!!

Most underrated guitar God
That hit the spot
Reminds me of Jobim's bossa nova classic, "One Note Samba". This and "Blue Collar" are the best!
Encapsulated the selfish 70s. Still beautiful
Man, this is Legendary!
Beautiful!

I always wondered how Randy Bachman played those amazing solos. Now I know!
LastTrainToClarkson
I wish they would have showed the whole thing!!
Love those volume knob swells at 2:06.

Brilliant
This and Blue Collar are my favourite BTO songs. Randy is really using the skills he picked up from fellow Winnipeg guitar legend Lenny Breau.
70’s memories
This is probably one of the first "unplugged-esque" videos ever, although the are not acoustic. Just fabulous. Sure miss them. Egos will always destroy.
Except that nothing is plugged in, including mics.
Awesome, that you found out the only way to the top is lookin out for #1, and rightly so.

Late, but I think it’s because BTO was playing a show in Japan.
AMAZING
Good lord, Randy makes that Country Gentleman talk.
Randy's time as a teenager spending time at Lenny Breau's house listening and learning from him paid off big time.
1:36 - Love the "forgot the words" moment. :D
What a great band. Legends
had the album put on my head phone played the album after smoking a joint this song lasted forever
Great song please check out Bachman Turner Overdrive - Head On Album Review on my channel

@@waynejohanson1083 One of Randy's main influences was Lenny Breau. Look him up and you'll see why Bachman Jazzes out on occasion.
@@davewalsh3885 Thank you I will do. But I do believe Wes Montgomery was a big influence on him.
@@waynejohanson1083 Yes but he actually had Lenny as a guitar teacher in Winnipeg back when he was first starting out.
