Well, to be frank about the situation, the military suggested it. Although, he was right in that he wanted the US to benefit economically from it and not China.
Irony lies in the fact that UA-cam, which has previously been accused of censoring news against Biden and the Democratic party, is now facing backlash under the Biden administration, and after TikTok began operating in the US. However, TikTok has actually helped to uncover the truth and potentially aided Trump's cause in the process, despite UA-cam's attempts to suppress opposing information.
