What I tell my students... Generally if there is a rule, it's because someone got hurt breaking the rule.
sad, but so true, Candyce. Sadly, *old timers voice* Back in MAH DAY... well, a different generation, I assume, as the worst we were reminded about were "These are DISNEY HAND-rails. they are not designed to support your weight, NOR the weight of your children". Maybe my generation was inherently more conformist? or perhaps our self perception as conformists caused us to do the dumb things that caused the rest of these rules to be put in place? Something for a social anthropologist to figure out. I'll just concentrate on following these rules AJ just reminded me of and not get thrown out after having spent so much money on my trip?
Eh. I disagree.
No. A rule is put in place so if someone breaks said rule, they can be punished. There have been rules against black people drinking from a water fountain, rules against women voting, rules that allowed children to be worked twelve hours a day..etc.
We should always question rules and children seem to understand that better than adults in a lot of cases.
@@georgeedward602 Yes, those examples were not for anyone's safety and I am not advocating lack of thought. However some SAFETY rules are created because others didn't think. Such as the danger of selfie sticks on roller coasters.

I was able to have the characters sign a blank card as a “Get Well” gift a couple of years ago. I told the character it was for a friend in the hospital and some of them added extra flourish to their signatures like stars and hearts, but no one actually wrote anything implying get well wishes, which was fine by me. We just treated it any other autograph request. Might have been different if the card itself said “Get Well”. Fortunately the “magic” worked fine for my friend and he is okay.

Blank cards would make sense and be a good work around. Could even get sneakier and make a couple cards into “autograph books”. Get a cheap journal that’s hardback and cut out the pages, use thin elastic cord and slip a bunch of blank cards into them. Bonus for Disney cards and X2 for saying you kid made them just for the trip.
An interesting story about the “no photos backstage” rule: I was in my high school’s marching band and we were invited to do the Main Street Electrical Parade at Magic Kingdom. We got ready backstage, and saw several of the characters on break, getting ready, or only partially in costume. The most shocking was Donald Duck, fully dressed with his head sitting next to him, smoking a cigarette! Talk about ruining the magic! Granted, this was before Disney’s no-smoking rules came into full effect. Either way, it makes sense why there are no photos allowed backstage.
I would want to experience that.

@@davidedwards3361 Knowing that there is someone in a costume and actually seeing it are two different things. Yes, it's somewhat irrational but humans aren't hyper-rational automatons, (no matter how much certain subcultures might wish it).
The rules even apply to entitled people who don't think the rules apply to them.

Just a comment on the "no one over 14 wearing Disney costumes" -- My daughter is disabled and is in her 40s and always wears a real Disney princess dress to the parks. I buy the dresses in the Magic Kingdom. We have been stopped only once and that was at the gate by a trainee. When a supervisor came over, she took one look at my daughter and said, "have a magical day!" and off we went. And we had a magical day! -- Disney is wonderful that way.
Margaret D Disney has been known to not strictly enforce this rule, sometimes people cosplay in the park. Which they absolutely shouldn’t, except for the cases of people with disabilities like your daughter. That’s nice of them to make an exception as they see fit :)
Margaret D if they allowed adults to dress up like characters there would be a danger of kidnapping too. With your daughter she obviously isn’t a danger to kids.

The first time I was promoted to management, I was specifically told that the reason they chose me was that I seemed to know when the regular rules do not apply, and to make exceptions. Sometimes it's not about being 100% strict, it's about knowing when to just ♫Let It Go, Let it Go...♫ (sorry, couldn't resist).
I wish the Disney+ service had more docu's about the parks. It has like one or two but it really doesn't have anything about the parks. Which sucks.
Hopefully they will add some of those classic intro's by Walt Disney talking about projects etc. that they used to have on the Disney TV show.

Daniel Parr this stuff actually happens in Disney all the time. Look up a list of incidents at Disney world or Disneyland online and you’d be surprised.
there was a criminal case years ago where a disney employee dressed up as disney character touched a young girl in a improper place ( will not say where) his lawyer was able to convince the jury that when in custom you cannot always control where your hands will end up plus the fact the costumes causes some vision issues

One exception to the cast cell phone rule- if we encounter a child whose parents are lost, any of us can pull out our phone to call the parent. So- great idea for children to know the number! (or have it hidden where they know how to show it).

I saw this happen just last week in Epcot (we sadly got home from our trip just yesterday 😭). There was a little girl sitting on the planter outside of the new promenade bathrooms, obviously lost and on the verge of tears. There were three cast members around her, consoling her: one kneeled in front of her and talking to her, one sitting next to her rubbing her back, and one standing, talking on their cell phone and looking around.
We were still there when the mother showed up and the girl flung herself into her arms, wailing. The mother looked relieved to say the least!
We where told no because then the parents have your number. And some people are very creepy it’s happened a few times now to Main Street cast members.

I'm surprised you can hear anything on cell phones. I was talking to my mom once we had gotten separated and we were trying to get back together but if hadn't been for texting we wouldn't have been able to communicate because of all the noise.
I hope I can shed a tiny bit more light onto the two-fingered point. It was not originally specific to two fingers. It also included a whole hand point, as if waving the guest in that direction.
I have two parents that had worked at Magic Kingdom (A mother that drove the ferry boats, and a dad that was the voice on the tram! How cool!) and I had actually asked them, due to curiosity. The answer I got was this: Due to Walt Disney wanting to incorporate other countries and cultures, pointing with a single finger was both rude and extremely offensive to some countries and cultures at the time. So to avoid this faux pas the cast members are all required to point with at least two fingers.
In various parts of Europe, using your index and middle fingers to indicate two and your middle fingers for three are considered vulgarities. You would need to use your thumb and index finger for two and your last three fingers for three in those countries. In the military, we were taught to use the "blade hand" point to avoid that and because you had three fingers pointing back at you, so if you were pointing someone out for something....
@@kevinmoore2929 Those are just for hand gestures, not pointing. And Disney is not part of the military, so that's moot.
When I became a cast member in 1994, we were taught that either the "two-finger point" or the "open hand" were acceptable. In that moment, I thought, "Pfft, I'll just use the open hand, it looks a LOT less awkward."
But as a new cast member, I would sometimes instinctively start to point with one finger, and as I started the gesture I would remember the rule, and I found it less obvious to throw that second finger out there at the least moment than to open the rest of my hand, so I became a "two-finger pointer" that way.
It's been 13 years since I was a cast member, but I still use the two-finger point. It's just second nature at this...well, at this *point*.
I’m a former cast member and to this day I use a “whole palm facing outward” point. What’s funny is it’s like a secret handshake, something other former cast members notice immediately. I can’t tell you the number of times over the years I’ve seen this gesture and asked (or been asked) “hey, did you work at WDW too?”. Why yes I did!
Jade Rushton pretty sure another reason for the two finger rule is because Walt Disney was a smoker, and nowadays the company had to cut it out of walts past photos in order to "preserve his image". In doing so it leaves Walt Disney "pointing" at something in his pics. Now I'm not so sure if this I completely true, for I heard of this from other internet locations but I find this reason pretty funny.[edit:] and I think is the more funny reason therefore I believe it is the tru-er one
My absolute favorite rule is No Smiling with Queen Malificiant. If you were getting your picture, the cast member refused to get a picture if you were smiling with her.

Many years ago, on Main Street I climbed up a short wall that surrounded a tree. There was a well disguised very hot venting pipe poking up near the tree roots! While I was more startled than harmed, it taught me a lesson to mind the rules! Disney did a fantastic job of hiding the pipe and I was fool enough to find it!
What it those scent pipes? They have them on main street. Some can be vanilla, peppermint, or popcorn.
Oooh....now it makes sense why Remy from Ratatouille was so intent on me turning around the Adidas backpack I was holding! They didn't want the Adidas logo showing.
Back in the early 2000s I was internet friends with Epcot's main Aladdin. I have tons of backstage photos from him of different characters screwing around and goofing off, including Phoebus stabbing him with his sword, him hanging out of a tree like Tarzan, and Jafar looming over him and his Jasmine leaning in to kiss each other. (I always thought it was cute that he called her "his" Jasmine... he told me many stories of playing the part of the "protective husband" when drunk guests would try to get handsy with her!)
I'm about to walk into Disney with my selfie stick, carrying a foldable chair while climbing the fountain and hanging my clothes out, then profoundly show off my tattoo.

I kinda understand the chair thing because your don't have a place for them really but if you have little kids, older people, are infirm etc... There isn't enough seating... At least at Disneyland when I went over 20 years ago... And selfesticks should be fine for being around the park itself... Not rides... Ugh
A friend who used to work at Disneyland told me about the two finger point many years ago. I've been using it at work and in my daily life ever since, because it actually is more polite, and the person I'm giving directions to doesn't get any sense of rudeness from me. This was a very, very easy one to adopt, and I like it.

Hey hey!! So just wanna she’s some light as being a previous cast member! 👍🏻 so the two finger/ whole hand point isn’t a “theory” lol literally the reason for it (which is explained in training) is because it’s indeed considered rude in other cultures to point with one finger. And in terms of utilidoor vids, even though “backstage vids/photos aren’t allowed” you can find soooooo many of them posted online and on UA-cam regardless of Disney park location and the rules. Hope that helps a bit in clearing some things up
As a former cast member, I can verify the two-finger point is for the sake of politeness. In some cultures, pointing with one finger is EXTREMELY rude, and being pointed at (even unintentionally) can make a person feel uncomfortable. Thus, we were instructed to point with two fingers, or gesture with an open palm. I still use the two-finger point to this day.
Fun facts about the cast ones: castmembers can't use personal phones on stage, but many roles use devices, such as custodial, housekeeping, park greeters, and many others. Also the two finger point has a sibling! Castmembers have the option to also use an open palm point if they prefer it to the two finger
I never heard “oh you can’t promote a brand in a picture”. I was a character attendant for 2 years and we just had the guests sit down their drinks, snacks and items so they wouldn’t get it on the characters.
That makes sense, why would Disney be worried about the Coke brand when it's everywhere, including the old refreshment station in Futureworld.
How about banning double wide strollers and electric scooters aka "ankle scrappers".
I highly recommend dressing for the Halloween events! My husband and I are cosplayers of Disney Characters (usually for charity events and conventions) and we made SO MANY new friends with other costumed guests, cast members and cosplayers! I won't ever forget it and we plan to go back again! I'm very thankful for that opportunity to dress as Star Butterfly in the park and enjoy that event!
Only 9 months till our trip - literally can’t wait 😊

I’m in my 20s and I want to go sooo bad
Actually, we have seen many proposals with characters. The most recent was just last summer with Minnie in Storybook Circus. We were in line and watched the whole thing. It was quite adorable, Minnie was jumping up and down and they had their own photo pass photographers with them. After the whole process they took pics with Minnie and she was holding their hand showing off the ring.
AJ said in the video that the characters can come in AFTER the question is popped, they just can't be in the photos during the actual proposal.

The rule doesn't mean you cant propose near them it means they can't hold the ring or anything like that. They can watch thou and be there
I've seen a handful of videos where something was done like this but it was coordinated by plain clothes CMs. This could be another one of those differences between Disneyland and Disneyworld too.
I think it’s also a time thing. Like, years ago, they would do it, but videos went viral, now EVERYONE wants to do it, making it much more difficult to fulfill such requests. Also “magic” is supposed to be a rarity, making it special, thus “magical,” but if they’re doing it so often, then it becomes meaningless. Think of the video where a couple decided to attend Turtle Talk with Crush, and the gentleman had Crush play a game with them, where they were asked to close their eyes. When he told them to open them, the lady discovered the man was on his knees with a ring. I imagines after that, CMs received tons of requests for help from Crush and other characters.
Also, about the Disneyland vs Disney World thing... ...one time I was waiting to see Fantasmic at DL. All of a sudden a bright searchlight was shined on us. I started freaking out wondering what I did, or what someone near me had done. Instead it was to single out a proposal, probably also to aid in video capturing by CMs. While it did not disrupt anything, and was kinda cool to see after finally learning what it was for, I imagine a daily ritual of these requests being problematic. Then again, it was CA. It could just be a culture thing. After all, I had news crews filming us trying to walk into Disneyland too. We aren’t that special. I swear.
We were taught the two-finger point at Disney Institute 11 years ago and I've used it constantly as a result. Conversely, on my last WDW visit, I did see a couple managers doing one-finger points and was *SHOOK.*
Don't worry to much if your kid brings a balloon to Animal Kingdom! They have a "balloon daycare" at the front next to guest services, where they'll put a tag on it and you can pick it up as you leave
A very situational addendum to the “no taking pictures backstage” rule - if you’re taking part in a Disney Performing Arts event, you are allowed to use phones/take pictures in the designated DPA space backstage! The walk from the doors to the area is a hard no-go, but we were able to take a group picture with the conductor Mickey standee when we got there.
Man, I still remember I dressed up like Cinderella last time I went to Disney (I was four) and stole her man. I can’t do this anymore?

Rides also have sensors on them to detect of someone might be falling out and selfie sticks were a big reason a lot of rides suddenly would stop because the rides would detect if it was a selfie stick or a person. Also people used to swing around with them and almost knock people out so I’m totally fine with the selfie stick ban, it makes complete sense for the safety of everyone!
I went to Disney World alone several years ago (my friend had to cancel at the last minute, I was already there waiting for her flight when she called with the bad news). It is weird being at Disney by yourself, because cast members seem to get word that you are alone and it's not normal so you get followed around. The perks are that you get pushed ahead to the front of lines to fill in one empty space in a ride car, I was directed by cast members to special events going on that I wasn't aware of, and I was able to have lunch with several characters stopping by. I still felt watched and followed the whole time. It was okay but not as fun as being with friends or family.
Went to magic kingdom today. First timer in disney and I feel like I knew everything thanks to you! :) I got on almost all rides in 1 day. Completed treasure hunts for free pass as well. Waking up in 6 hours for holywood studios hoping to get boarding pass 😴😴😜.
Characters tend to break rules and ignore the cast member. We took my daughter for her 1st birthday to disney and more than one character held her to include stitch, minnie and Mickey.
The cast member actually "yelled" at stitch because he was holding her and was taking longer then he would with other people.
A kid I knew got stuck in a fence at Disney.
He was bored and for some reason, thought it would be a wonderful idea to go to the fence and try to slip through it. He got stuck.

I went backstage at Disneyland 5 times while in Marching Band and Orchestra. We were told no pictures and anyone who did was asked to delete it. We took a picture as a group on risers in front of a backdrop. The only thing that stands out was seeing the toy soldiers in half of the costume. Backstage is huge!
I went to Disney World with my high school band. We went "backstage" in Magic Kingdom before marching in a parade. Their "no pictures" rule there was so strict that anyone taking a picture would get our entire band kicked out of the performance.
Personally, I think selfie sticks should be universally banned, but that is just me...
Kinda funny you mentioned that. I was very worried that selfie sticks would ruin my vacation at Universal, especially in Harry Potter World but I saw only one or two and they were polite enough to make sure they weren't poking into people's backs. Most of the people with selfie sticks were taking pictures at the purple triple decker bus and in front of Grimmauld Place (the huge white building where Harry's uncle lived).
We have one but the guards in the entrance in disneyland took them. I was sad because its kinda expensive.

The finger point is politeness. Former Cast Member chiming in. Also, I have to laugh that you used the 'go away green's proper name. Another way to see behind the scenes is to do the Keys to the Kingdom tour through Disney. It gives a behind the scenes look into the Magic Kingdom. I would add any smoking to the list of banned things. Even goes for vaping and Ecigs, too. Any smoking is something cast members will approach guests on to ask them to stop. The company did away with smoking sections in the parks and Disney Springs in the spring of last year.
Apparently that statue/wall in front of the stairs of the Mexico pavilion was not originally there and was installed specifically because so many people kept running up the stairs there.
The clothing/tattoo requirement seems to be regularly ignored (and some guests might not even be aware of it). I have been really surprised by the content of some of these, especially with so many kids around. I also have seen CM’s using phones “on stage” multiple times for what were clearly personal purposes. You can take pictures of some backstage areas without getting into trouble with Disney if you do the runs and the area is on the run route.
The two finger point is explicitly mentioned to cast members during orientation as being a result of Walt's smoking habit being erased from most photographs during his lifetime. The reason it's kept around is part tradition and partly so they have an explanation at hand when certain cultures think you're telling them to have a very not-magical day.
Big point about Mexico: it's also the control tower for Epcot night show. Looking out for laser paths to airplanes, safety of the boat crews, and Pyro, is priority one.
For the number 2 "don't climb on things", some fixtures REALLY need to have a sign that says DO NOT CLIMB or have a barrier around it. I was in Disney World recently and I happened to look up at that giant POD in Pandora and I saw a kid on the very very top. The mom didn't even know he was up there until he was at the top and oddly enough the cast member on the opposite side of the pod hadn't even noticed. i understand the pod can be touched and stuff, but at the same time this little kid easily was able to climb on top of it and that's a good amount of feet above the ground.
The hype is real for me now, only 14 days till I’m back to WDW for my birthday, the first time in 10 years! Watching these videos is part research and part overall hype going into overload LOL

Joy totally helped my friends with their baby’s gender reveal, I think they’ve relaxed some the do’s and do note with that. I get not letting the characters hold a ring/ open the reveal box due to potential hazards/ruining the characters’ costumes, but you can do these events. Maybe clarify the characters can be apart of the moment (in the background) but not actively apart of the moment until it’s passed. In regards to my friends they found out the baby’s gender they told Joy and got a lot of cute candids with her and she held up one side of the onesie that said “Baby Boy Joy” with my friends
Some cast members are issued electronic devices as part of their role and you see them used on stage. Maintenance checklists are accessed and updated electronically to save on paper and for more timely distribution of information between departments.
We were taught that 1 finger pointing, in some cultures, is very demeaning & can be intimidating. When we sing at the hotels at Christmas or in the Processional, we are always reminded to use 2 fingers or your whole hand.
I know what you mean. I worked at a theme park, and in our training, we were told to use our whole hand if we needed to point. They said this was so no one in the area would think we were pointing at them if we used only one finger. I still follow that to this day if I am giving directions!!

Hello! I actually did see Backstage Disney where the performing arts marching bands and things go. They allowed us to take pictures back there but it was very odd to see the backstage area so I did not for the most part.

A.J. your videos are great. I've been to DISNEYWORLD almost every year since only the DISNEYWORLD park opened. Then I watched Epcot being built. And on and on.
I have been there around 29 times. Got all my receipts still.
Even have a Disneyland ticket book that they used tickets in it for rides etc. That was from 1966 when I was in Marines.
I've been on two disney cruises and there great even though no children go with us now.

I'll throw an exception to the cell rule for cast members and state that some are required by their job to use them. Mainly operations related managers (attractions, custodial, VIP Tours guides, occasionally QSFB, etc.) and custodial CM. At least in the Magic Kingdom, custodial cast members use their work iphones to contact area managers, know what trash cans/restrooms need attention, and be informed of any incidents that need to be taken care of (code h, code v, etc.)
I experienced the no pictures backstage rule when I marched in the magic kingdom parade. They were super strict about it. We had to leave our phones on the bus and couldn’t even bring them in the dressing room.

Just some insider information as a previous cast member the 2 finger or full hand point was taught to us due to the vast amount of different guests of different cultures visiting the resorts/parks and a single finger point is considered rude in many cultures outside of America. I’ve actually never heard of it being due to Mr. Disney’s cigarette wielding pointing lol
I was at Magic Kingdom 2 days ago. I saw a girl using a selfie stick, an employee talking on a cellphone, and 2 employees hanging out on a bench while one was crying about something. I felt sorry for her, but also it seemed so strange to see at DW.
With backstage rules I have a story. Basically my school was performing at Disney California adventure, last year we had a ton of down time since crews were trying to dry up the stage because it rain earlier. The rule they tell you is to not pull out your phone because they think you might be taking pictures, this one cast member was very relaxed and made our backstage experience wonderful be letting us reserve fast passes using the Disneyland app and was very reasonable. This most recent visit however we got placed with a cast member who was new to working with our group and I guess he wasn’t use to dealing with 70 high school kids, basically people wanted to reserve fast passes and check on their boarding times for Rise of the Resistance but he wouldn’t allow it. People could only know through their notifications and at the end where the cast members are doing their “good bye speech” there was a group wanting to get out because their rise boarding group was next. Literally when everything ended they tried to bolt out from backstage but were stopped because apparently cast members need to walk you out of the backstage area. Luckily they made it.
Few realize that Animal Kingdom has been an accredited zoo under the AZA. In order to maintain certifications (and in recognition of hazards to animals in that zoo), plastic straws and balloons, among other items, are not allowed.
My brother once complained about how there were designated smoking areas when Walt Disney (who he was pointing at the Partners statute when he said this) was a pack a day guy. Without going into the legendary desire for cleanliness that extended to making the park's haunted house have a pristine exterior, I gave him the quote from the man himself of "Walt Disney does not drink, swear, or smoke. I drink, swear, and smoke".

Hi AJ, there are a lot of comments here and this may have been answeredalready. I am a former cast member and when we were trained to do the famous two finger pointing we were taught that this was preferable because allegedly using two fingers allows the other person to see a little bit more clearly what you are pointing at. They claim the one finger could be confusing. And that's what I was told when I was trained. 30 years later, I still point with two fingers everywhere I Go.
On the logo situation... does that include a logo on a shirt. Like they sell those large logo Coca Cola shirts that I see people wearing all the time. Or what if someone has a shirt on from their own personal business. will they say something to the guest?
No, they won't. Some of these rules fall through slowly. There is quite a few of exhausted cast members through the day that will look the other way on smaller rules.
I’ve never even heard of “you can’t promote a brand in a picture” and I worked there for 2 years . You can’t however have your picture taken with any shirts that have to do with alcohol. Like if you have a drinking around the world tee or something to that effect. The photopass or the character attendant will make you cover it up or turn away from the camera so it can’t be seen
The funny part is I had a gumball from three floyd’s shirt on and they still took my picture 😂😂😂 but they probably didn’t know it was alcohol related.

I think I've heard that if there is anything in question, they can strategically have you pose or hold something up that will ultimately block the questionable logo or item once the photo is developed. My question is, though, how are they going to enforce that if they are slowly replacing some of the photographers with automated boxes? Just another reason to keep REAL photographers around!!

I work at the Disney store in Canada and that two finger point has taken over my life! Even when I’m not working I’m constantly pointing with two fingers and my friends always question why I’m pointing like that! LOL

DFB really needs to talk about allergy-friendly options. Between 220-250 million pepole worldwide suffer from food allergies. Disney is the most magical place for them, but not because of DFB, it's because of Disney's food handling procedures. They still have to find food that they can eat through- and for me, as a person who's lactose intolerant, would never be eating that ice cream taco. Please, DFB, I'm begging you. For their sakes.
The rule for cast members using 2 fingers to point is because that comes across as less threatening.
That was one of the 1st things I learned when I worked at Disneyland in the late 90's
Balloons are totally a thing at animal kingdom lodge! Last year for my birthday mousekeeping tied a balloon to my teddybears paw when I was out
@@MichaelRei99 bring it into your room (like we did). it is all about protecting the animals who might think it is food and accidently ingest it.
@@MichaelRei99 The Wilderness Lodge is not part of the Animal Kingdom Lodge area. It is in the Magic Kingdom Area and balloons are okay there. AJ did say Animal Kingdom Park and Animal Kingdom Lodge in the video. No mention of the Wilderness Lodge and any ballon restrictions there.
Straws are dangerous to them too. Basically if you don’t want a baby to eat it it’s not safe for the animals.

Hi AJ one more questions with the MDE app dose everyone has to have the app to do a fast past or is just one person in the group. Thanks for the videos it has help me alot, its been about 7 years since we went to Disney World, so there alot of new things we didn't know.
Just one person has to have the app, but everyone in your group has to be a member on your account. Then you can just select which people on your app want the FP and off you go! And, for ALL the rides EXCEPT rise of the resistance, they don't even have to be IN the park or near you to get a FP. Rise of the resistance, all members of your party who want to ride need to be present and accounted for INSIDE the park before you can go on your app and add a pass for them.
I get why you'd want a folding chair at a parade. What I don't get is why you'd want to haul a folding chair around the park all day.
Thanks for the video! I knew that selfie sticks weren't allowed but do they have a specific rule against vlogging sticks? Have you guess ever come across that in the parks?
You can have "tripods" of a certain length, but they must not be giant "professional" ones- they have to be the "portable" kind you can fit in a backpack. And if you're trying to film on a ride, as long as the stick/tripod doesn't extend beyond the general width of your palm when you hold it (plus the camera's height), that's okay.

Two of these rules that are eased during RunDisney events - Costumes are highly prevalent, and I've seen adults walking through Epcot after the races still in their costume. The other is photos backstage, as several official photo stops are actually set up in those areas.
when i was twelve i was pretty tall and couldn't fit into the princess dresses at the parks so i had one from another website that i could fit into even though i didnt really look 14 i was told by a cast member to change my outfit do to the costume rule needless to say every time i go to the parks that the only thing i think about
That sucks :( I understand but they need to find a way... The only way to tell a kids age is if they're military and over 10...
Thankfully a cast member broke the cell phone rule for me! I left my phone in an Uber and a cast member let me use his phone to find my sister that was already in a park!
Sometimes you need to break a rule to help people that need extra help. As long as it's reasonable and accepted, you got a special exception.

Yeah, they’re little, they should be able to see, just like you. How would you like it if you weren’t able to see a show and you were little?
With my kid I used to have sit in my arms with his back resting on my chest so him head was around my head level. The only time I would put him on my shoulders was when I was pinned up against a wall.

I paid for my park admission just like they did, and I shouldn't have to give up my ability to see just because other parents didn't plan ahead. I'm also pretty short at 5'2" and often can't see around grown men on their own let alone with another foot of "little one" boosted on their shoulders.
Furthermore, what about families that have kids who are still shorter than adults but too big/old to be lifted up like that? _Your_ child on your shoulders blocks _that_ child's view. What's the cutoff for "little ones" being entitled to see?
Parents who lift their kids over their heads to see are inconsiderate and rude to the umpteenth degree. There are other people around you. Be considerate of them and hold your child on your hip. It's not hard to be mindful of the people around you.
[Edited to add there have been many times I've had parents ask if their small children could stand in front of me to watch the fireworks in Epcot while the parents stand behind me, and I've always said absolutely, come on in. It's easy to compromise so that _everyone_ can see!]

The costume rule for people over 14 isnt really a thing in Tokyo Japan. I asked for photos with many people in costume who I learned after were just regular attendees. One man next to the TeaCups looked so good I thought he was just a incognito cast member. But nope.
