@@Iamhimbutyouarenot I show up and do my job to the best of my ability and I also help my coworkers and be a team player and still experience discomfort for the color of my skin. How am I adding any fire to the fuel?
We don't have the stomach to boycott anything. Look at what happened with Colin Kaepernick. We boycotted the NFL for a hot minute, realized there was nothing better to watch and slunk back to watching the games. We're not respected because we don't stand on business, we have no racial pride or unity, and need to be entertained by any means necessary. We're a hopelessly lost people.
These responses to the original comment prove the point ... Instead of thinking about how we should move as a collective, everybody's talking about what they're doing individually and not worried about anybody else. Other groups advance successfully because they find a way to work together, even if everybody isn't friends.
If we work with each other more, we dont need them to be honest. To accomplish this goal we need to trust, support and respect each other more, otherwise it wont work. We have to move as a group instead of individuals. I try my best to do business with black people first before any other group. It takes more work but the way I see it thats the sacrifice for unity. And I had good and bad experiences dealing with our own people. I never give up though.
I don’t agree and will never. This country is a cakewalk I’ve told my coworkers year after year “if you don’t like the job, then use it as a stepping stone to until you get somewhere else” simple. Now I got my own business
That's the point. I don't tell nobody, NOBODY, at my job the moves I'm making on the side. They're cool people but damn that. Already encountered weird energy when I told a former "supervisor" the type of car I was thinking about buying. He really was like "huh? You can't afford that"... Like he knows what I have in my pocket. 🖕 that guy
I'm almost $40k in student loan debt about to get my graphic design degree. I've not even been able to get a non-paid internship. It's hard to freelance when you're not popular/have no audience. I can't even get a customer service job paying more than $16 per hour right now.. I'm tired of working for other people anyway.
Well you have some good things in your favor. 1. You're young. 2. You have a smartphone. 3. You have access to social media. Go out and show people what you can do. Reach out to people that have businesses to see if they need work done. Do some free work for a couple of people and remember word of mouth is the best marketing. Good luck.
You don't need popularity to freelance, you need a solid portfolio and a network. LinkedIn, Behance, Dribbble, design groups on Facebook, in-person networking events/meetups, etc to build your network. Consistent practice, offering your skills and putting yourself out there is how you get work. Best wishes from one designer to another!
Go get into a technical trade school and grab a real trade. Paid my way through college got my bs in accounting and 5 years after making 50-65 k went to technical school and and one year from journeyman license. This will be my second year hitting 6 digits gross and I’m AI proof
Been saying this for awhile, Black people won't progress collectively (policies, discrimination, laws etc) until we become more litigious and learn to leverage our dollars in the right way. The only things people respect are money and getting sued when there basis to sue. Too many of us can't give up our creature comforts and be uncomfortable for a week to teach these corporations, businesses, politicians a lesson. Everyone won't get on code and that's the problem. For instance, boycotting Nike (if there is a valid reason), BP specifically don't buy from them for a quarter and see how quick their policies change or a grievance be resolved. Our economic power to sue becomes increased when we ban together and donate to a mutually agreed upon fund, keep lawyers and investigators on retainer to help solve our specific issues. NAACP and CBC are advocating for a lot of other groups and have been ineffective for years since the civil rights, so they are no longer relevant.
IMAGINE if nooooone of us bought Givenchy, Gucci, etc. But people have this need to flex like they got next, lol. It's actually a sickness. It's a wrap out here. Just take care of your family and instill in them self-respect. 9/11 has taught people nothing at all. ✌🏽
The game is not having the resources to sue. These companies know you're barely making it and what attorney is going to take a case on contingency when proving racism is so hard. No one is dropping the N word in a credit denial letter.
Thank you! I was milked by a lawyer when I attempted to sue a company that obviously discriminated against me. I not only lost my job but most of my 401k. That’s the problem in America, rich people sue, poor people hustle to find another job. The PTB design it that way.
You’re absolutely right-the game is rigged, and they know exactly how to play it. These companies bet on folks not having the time, money, or resources to fight back, and they hide behind coded language and policies to avoid blatant racism. It’s not like they’re sending out denial letters with slurs-they’re far too slick for that. The real flex is building our own, so we’re not begging at tables that weren’t meant for us in the first place.

@larryjordan23 Oh, Larry. Bless your heart. You do realize Wells Fargo has been sued and lost for racial discrimination multiple times, right? In 2012, they had to cough up $175 million for discriminating against Black and Latino borrowers. And in 2020, another $7.8 million went out the door for discriminating against Black job applicants. So while they might try to “wait you out,” history says they’re not untouchable. But hey, I’m glad you agree with half-it’s a start!
