You see eclipses in textbooks, you see them in web photos, you see them in live broadcasts, but there is no substitute to seeing it in person. It is an out of this world event to experience. I saw it today in Morrisville VT, and was very amazed.
@@lecturesbywalterlewin.they9259 As this type of solar eclipses are very rare , I am happy that atleast professor lewin witnessed it during his old age.
I experienced the eclipse from West Lafayette, IN (Purdue). Beautiful beyond words. Would be interested to understand the signal disruption from your wife's glasses at 0:53 and 0:56 seconds. Cheers to you both in beautiful Stowe.
It was nice to meet you briefly. I was also staying there and photographing the eclipse totality and the before and after partial phases. I'm happy to report reasonable success with my photography. I believe I even got some Bailey's beads to show up well in a few shots. It was so neat to see the prominences and chromosphere in person. I did not see that when I saw the eclipse in 2017.
OMG!! last second. Why did you do that professor?! I wanted to see what happened ! Anyway love you! Miss your lectures tooooo much ❤at MIT YOU'RE THE BEST.
sir it is very sad to see u re even not able to hold camera stably...sir you re the bestest of best teacher. Love and respect from the Capital of India🙏🙏🙏. I am waiting for your reply sir🙏
hold a camera in your hands - no other support of any kind - go ooutside and make a video of you garden - your hands will be shaking just like mine did during the solar exlipse
Hey Doc, why did it take you 3 days to get to Stowe VT from CT? Did you walk there? Also, kudos to your writing/editing for adding the great cliff hanger at the end of this video! I will definitely tune in to your next installment to see the exciting conclusion! Peace &l love😀
Thank you professor for the clarification. I traveled to Skaneateles NY and unfortunately saw nothing but low level cloud cover and darkness. Looks like your view was spectacular. P.S. I love your videos and your work.
I remember in the Netherlands there was one several years ago, but the weather was all clouds (typical). Now the next total eclipse will happen in 2135
That's called "blooming". These camera sensors read the image row by row by shifting the measured brightness values from one pixel row to the next. When pixels become oversaturated or overexposed, the voltage "bleeds" across the entire line, resulting in lines. I don't think the camera took damage because it worked again at the very end.
What is wonderful eclipse event! When you may see Pac-Man on many US cities! When you have to see beautiful ring with your eyes! When you may eat diner and lunch at the same time! 😁
@@lecturesbywalterlewin.they9259 I live in the Buffalo NY area (Niagara Falls), so it was very close to total. I was going to drive to be closer to the totality, but with the heavy cloud cover it would have been futile.
@@RayleighCriterion Sky at Niagary Falls was clear. I have seen pictures of many people near the Falls and also the pictue of the total eclipsed seen from there. Too bad you did not go to the Falls - best

I changed my plan from going to West Texas to Arkansas last minute and it was perfect. We could see Mars, Venus and Jupiter too.
we only saw Jupiter
hello from India solar eclipse was last seen from our are back to 20 years ago in 2004 .....

I was waiting for this!
Ayush we were very lucky - 12 noon - 1:30 PM zero coulds - by 2:30 PM only very thin clouds. The red corona at 7 o'clock was spectacular.
@@lecturesbywalterlewin.they9259 yes, you were indeed very lucky. I have never seen a full solar eclipse in my life. I hope to see one someday.
What happened in the last 3 seconds? Some kind of ray came out of the sun.
The camera said ; on nooo i cant take this, and yeah, showed him that it failed!

I saw the eclipse from my backyard, despite the clouds doing their best to ruin the event.
which percentage of the sun was covered at maximum?
