Hey everyone I hope you enjoyed this 4 part series about the work of Dan Robinson! Don't forget to subscribe, leave a comment and thumbs up the video. We will be giving away a signed copy of his amazing book when this video gets 500 comments! Good luck
❤ thank you for this series, I’ve learnt so much, Dan seems really fond of you, “David has god dammed schedule “ he wanted you there for longer time, please visit him again ( with video) 😊
As a bonsai beginner there is so much information to assimilate. However, the guiding principal I would take from Dan is to replicate a tree's natural environment as best as possible and to just let a tree do what a tree does best.
When the time is right, I will definitely be implementing his no repot technique! He is truly a Bonsai/Tree Wizard!!! He deserves some kind of award for what he has accomplished and given in to the world of Bonsai! A very humble man who is dedicated to his craft and is very compassionate! Thank you very much for this Master series on Dan Robinson A true legend! Love to watch your videos! 👍🏾👍🏾
It's incredible what you can achieve when you have an open mind and step out of the traditional conformism. I like the idea of not repotting trees and letting them fight for survival. I will try to treat a few trees of mine like that and see what I get in a few decades
Keep in mind though : 1. He does some mild root pruning. 2. He lives in a very humid environment where it constantly rains. 3. It's one of his most controversial opinions within the bonsai community.
Yes, I am aware that this way of treating trees is not that straightforward and needs a lot of observing and different care than the way everybody else does it. And even though it is controversial, nobody can deny the results he achieved.
Here again to view for the umpteenth time as I never get sick of seeing Dan's trees and the 3 old blokes chewing the bonsai fat😉 I have some trees that are 30+ years not repotted, and he is absolutely right the are doing well, just not thriving like the curated ones.. Cheers from Australia. P.S.. It been a while since we have some new content hope all is well✌
I love how Dan showcase the character of his trees. Even scars can look beautiful with the rigth care. Thank so much for this video! (English is not my first language, I apologize if my comment is not that clear)
How does this not have its 500 comments yet?! This video series changed my entire view on this hobby. My mind is blown and my heart is singing. I hope I’ll have 10% of the kind of display Dan has at his age. A living legend! Thanks for sharing David!!
First off, that is the most focused video I have ever seen. Beautifully shot. I was watching and it hit me that this is the garden a few minutes from where my grandkids lived. Up the hill in the background. I was always there for Christmas and garden closed so never visited.
Dan is amazing. Had an honor of visiting him in Sumer 2022 and got a private tour of the garden and his amazing trees... just like that. Down to Earth true passionate bonsai master. I am going back for sure, one afternoon is just enough to scratch the surface at his magic kingdom...
Really enjoyed following your Fall West Coast trip David, felt like we were part of the group. Kudos to Nick for helping you share this unique and great content!
Phenomenal set of videos David. Many thanks for doing them all. You and your team are doing an amazing job. It's so great having the three of you together to discuss and enjoy those wonderful trees together. Really hope you can get to the west coast again, and up here in Canada no less. Van Isle would have you back in a heartbeat. Maybe come with DeGroot in the fall? ... Also enjoying the rebrand of the channel. Would love the book .... but I guess we have to get the video to 500 comments first... hopefully this comment and like will boost it in the algorithm. :)
Dan is a true artist in the bosai world, love his work. And wow, Those pines are the most natural ive seen. His style is unique... a fan from south west uk....
The last Few Tour videos at Dans have been amazing. Such Inspirational trees and conservation built on life time of knowledge! Thanks for sharing this 😊
I’m definitely going to try to improve my carving skills after watching these videos! I can’t believe that he doesn’t repot his trees, could be the reason they look so naturally stunted and ancient! Lots to think about after hearing his techniques!
Just finished final episode .Dan Robinson surely has a magical place. Gnarly is best out west. Amazing trees ,Thank you for the look into his bonsai world .
I went to Elandan Gardens once about 12 years ago. I got to meet Dan and chat with him a bit. Such a great person and a wealth of knowledge/ wisdom. Thank you so much for this series of videos!
Great series dave. ! I would prob implement more age and carving to my trees along with the twisting and contorted style. I love the gnarly effect on his trees.i feel like dan has the ultimate connection with nature and i think to find that u have to go collecting. Alot of what he does he sees in nature and portrays these images that he sees in life of these very old trees.u can wire a tree, carve a tree ,style a tree but the trees he has u can tell has been withered away by nature itself and i feel like its very hard to duplicate that and that is why his collection seems soo special to me. I can see the old age twisted and contorted style of tree and its something i forget about because i have alot of young trees. Loved the stories and the walkthrough. Thank u dan dave and the whole team.
What a great philosophy Dan has ..so different an approach in his trees. They look great as well. Definitely will try to manage a couple of mine the same way.
Literally a goal to be one of those guys someday. so interesting the stories behind the trees and hearing his opinions and experience. fantastic collection
I really enjoyed these videos I can never get enough of Dan he is by far my favorite bonsai artist with the best trees but most of all just a wonderful person… Thank you 🙏
Did I miss the giveaway? What a fantastic series. Thanks so much. I am really interested in his idea of pruning later in the season, I am very keen to experiment with that. Also I'm absolutely going to look for a stone to plant a tree in now. Some of those stones I wouldn't have believed could support a tree as thick as he has on them. Very inspiring. I'll end up rewatching this many times.
Thoroughly enjoyed this series of videos. I think I will reconsider the apex of some of my trees after seeing Dan's collection to try to achieve an older look. I'll also think about maybe reducing the repotting frequency since he has had some of those trees in the same pot for decades! Thanks for the wonderful content. Time to dream about sublimation and "gnarly" trees. 😊😊
I remember visiting Elandan last year, and watching garden helpers defoliating maples in July, I believe. That’s something I need to try with several of my trees. He’s built such a magical place, from absolutely nothing. So impressive.
Excellent series! I love the food for thought and history that you were able to showcase. Thank you for documenting and sharing your and Dan’s immense breadth of experience with bonsai care and aesthetics.
What a great series. I'm thinking on how to incorporate the idea of having the top die off maybe needing to be carved even, then let the gnarly stuff happen....Its an interesting way to deal with sacrifice branches or tops etc..
Thanks so much David for this wonderful video tour with Dan. I just love all the informal conversation and insights provided. It really motivates me in my bonsai hobby
Amazing those trees only get potted up once, never repotting seems so unreal to me, especially now, heading into spring repotting season, it's a very busy time of year for every bonsai artist that I know. A very unique practice that seems like it's worked well for him! Great video David! Thanks for bringing us along!
As a novice , my knowledge and fascination is with putting these trees in such a small pot ! But the realization is that in nature this happens naturally , seeing a tree growing in a crevice of rock where there is very little soil , and nutrients . It lives happily.
I would definitely improve my carving techniques and go for those knarly curved branch technique. And use the high nitrogen that he talks about when fertilizing his trees . AWSOME VIDEO ! 👌💯
David, would you guess that the lava rocks used as planters all had drainage holes in the bottoms like a man-made planter. Thank you for this series you truly out did yourself, many thanks.
Really nice collection of wonderfull diversity of three. Personnaly, I think that I will try on some of mine to choose a nice pot that will be there unique bed for life. Don't know how much success I'll be able to have this way, but it can be aan interesting experimentation.
New to the world of bonsai. I enjoyed watching and old salt tell it like it is . Nature doesn't repot so why should we. Going to try it on a garden stock Crepe Myrtle I am learning from.
what a fascinating and beautiful video thank you all you've put me in a good and inspired mood and i wasn't and you all have reminded me to put myself back into bonsai again peace is found in nature 🙏✌️🫡
Three old codgers talking sense about Bonsai, a fabulous series.

This was so refreshing to see Dan and his ancient trees!! I hope the bonsai tours continue!!!
Nah seeing three old dudes talk about something they’re passionate about is sick. I hope I can be as cool as Dan when I’m his age. What a legend
He really like his gnarly !!!!
As a bonsai beginner there is so much information to assimilate. However, the guiding principal I would take from Dan is to replicate a tree's natural environment as best as possible and to just let a tree do what a tree does best.
Has not re-potted some trees in 65 years. Just amazing. Thanks so much for sharing!
Fantastic series. I'm 65 so I still have some gnarliness to develop. Dan is such an inspiration, and a beautiful character!!
A true force of nature!
Coffee with Dan what a treat thanks David narrrly

His trees are amazing!
This is such a delightful garden, I'm surprised it's built on top of a landfill.
Going to try the later in the summer candle cutting.
I do really appreciate his skills and also for being hardworking caring and loving to his own artwork 💤💫⭐💥🖐☝top 1 🇵🇭🇬🇧atsuuup 👍
Amazing tour. Thanks David!
