- Larks' Tongues In Aspic is 50 years old, Robert is even older but appears able to still play some of the guitar lines, makes a debut with a bopping beat group and accordingly has an Upbeat Moment with his Wife,
provides on-the-road coffee-making facilities with the assistance of Trev and Renee, wanders the garden with Toyah to welcome their new tulip tree, and finds artworks of wonder by Tony Levin, Barry Godber and Paolo Aizza in the office Dungeon. If only life could be this good all the time.
Grab some rather cool Robert Fripp goodness right here: robertfripp.mymerch.studio/
So wonderful that we have reached a point in time where the great Robert Fripp now has the time to share these wonderful insights and tips for us fans and the curious to enjoy. Oh great Robert, please let Toyah know her 'Dance to the rhythm' keeps getting better and better. Great live performance and I'm really digging that great music. Also ROCK ON!!!!
50 years of Larks. Blimey. I'm old.
Oh wow! The original watercolor for "In the Court of the Crimson King"! Such an iconic image. Thank you for the lesson Robert.
Such a sad story of the artist who painted it: Barry Godber
I remember being 17 and buying Larks' Tounges in Aspic. I put it in my CD player and listened to the first track. Then I heard *that* guitar line and it changed everything. It may seem trite to others but hearing it changed the way I looked at music.
I was also seventeen when I first heard the record-and seventeen when the record was originally released. I saw the group in concert at Kiel Auditorium on May 12, 1973-the day after a much louder Led Zeppelin concert at the Arena-Spooky Tooth opened. Later that summer I was playing in a rock group, and various friends came to our rehearsals. Chuck and Rex were enthusiastic about Larks so I bought the record. I was enthusiastic about the Mahavishnu Orchestra’s “Birds of Fire”, which convinced Rex (but not Chuck) to buy that record. I still treasure both records.
I saw the Mahahvishnu Orchestra at the Mississippi River Festival August 14, 1973. The Section opened.
Very shortly after its release in March 73, I saw King Crimson perform Lark’s Tongue in its entirety in West Palm Beach in June 1973. Peter Frampton opened the show. King Crimson opened my brain to all possibilities in my own band’s performance and quite simply changed my musical life.
I was in row 5 center, so close I was surrounded by sounds right off the stage. Bruford’s kit and a large collection of percussion including giant steel plates was stage center left (just to my right), Robert at far stage left as seems to be his habit, right THERE! Wetton sounded fantastic, at most 15’ from me straight ahead making an intimate connection, David Cross far stage right, and I don’t recall separate percussion member Jamie Muir.
I was blown away and embarked on a different stage in my own music.
Robert Fripp is one of the most unique and interesting guitar players of all time. He is King Crimson.
I have been listening to "Larks Tongues In Aspic" since I was a teenager, and I am now 65 years old and am still listening to it. Bravo, Robert Fripp!
How are you doing Michael 😊
Robert, I saw the band in winter of 1969/1970 at the Kinetic Playground in Chicago and have been listening ever since. Thank you for all the music through out the years.
Mr. Fripp as always a gentlemen gentleman
Thank you for inviting us into your home & a wonderful guitar tutorial!👍😎
A reminder of how good your guitar lines are.
Shame about the noisy crowd.
A free guitar lesson from. One of the best. Thank you Robert
Imagine being a guitarist in Toyah’s band and Robert Fripp sits in. Every song would be a masterclass.
Thank you Mr. Fripp for giving some insight into your playing and how you approach your music. I would have never thought I would be able to see this in person. Toyah’s band sounds excellent!
And the new guitarist of Toya's band, the one a little to the side, looks very promising

Yep, I think he’s going places.😃
Robert, thanks for all the fantastic music you and KC has given us for so many years. Pure genius, pure magic, totally ahead of its time and that will be appreciated for generations!
...having spent most of my teen years building pedestals for other idols, the kc i discovered was a little higher brow than I'd been accustomed to, the nearest neighbour on the idiot dance floor being the Floyd. Now that I'm 70 you've joined my path again, thanks for coming my way. i can still stretch a rhythm.
Uncle Robert is gonna be home again and that's why ı'm so very happy
Old uncle Bobby!
One of the best things in my life... Will (possible) be to meet Mr Fripp in person and shake his hands!!!! Amazing human being!!!
Hi Robert, I'm prety shure we shared a "bathroom" at the Brighton Dome, in the interval. Billed as Fripp and Eno in the early '70s two urinals, side by side, i might have wet your shoes or you may have wet mine ! mind blowing concert, me 65 now and the music of king krimson was always difficult for me to "get" ELP and Yes, easy. thanks for being an outstanding musician for all these years, take care and i wish you happiness for the future. x
Icon of the seventies of progressive rock(still in good shape). It was the golden age this kind of music. King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, ELP, Gentle Giant, Van Der Graaf Generator, Gong were my favorites. Unfortunately, in the mid-seventies there was a turn towards commercialization. Another one in his sixties, haha. :)
Thanks God, because you gave us Robert Fripp!!!
Larks Tongues is my absolute favorite King Crimson album
Glad to see that R.F. is open to different ways to play the same thing. Its his music, but anyone is welcome to TRY to play it ! the scales just need to be practiced, practiced, practiced !
Thank you for letting us inside your world, Robert. Your practice regimen is legendary and admirable. I hope you continue to post these little peeks :)
Mr. Fripp has a seat at my ultimate dinner guest list. Along with Jacques Cousteau and many others. It may have to be a buffet.
LTiA Pt I has always been my favorite. Love the long, gentle, atmospheric buildup and introduction to the theme. When the guitar slides in above this staccato violin notes leading to the first batch of power cords...❤!
Hi Robert. Just listening to Starless. Brilliant. Hope you’re well 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Robert is real HOMIE, and ONE OF THE GREATS !
Loved this video. The guitar, the guidance, and the very funny cuts to random stuff.
Many years spending time trying to figure it out this solo. I deeply appreciate that Mr. Fripp shared the secrets of this master piece. This is the solo that changed my entire way to look at guitar execution and composition. If we can get the full picture of this solo would be amazing. Certainly there are few details that i've been missing out, and i'm not sure if someone on youtube nailed the entirety of this solo.
I love so much the _Robert at Home_ videos. So generous, ludic, controlled and free. The editing like a composition. Thank you.
Looking sharp Robert.
This is such an amazing treat! To be able to watch and listen to Robert Fripp as he takes us on a journey into his fantastic world. I love the editing because it begins as an exclusive guitar lesson for the epic intro to Lark’s Tongue in Aspic, but before long we are touring Mr. Fripp’s home art gallery of King Crimson discography related works. Thank you so much for your tremendous body of work which will be enjoyed by countless generations into the future. Thank you for your eloquent words and sharing your technique with us!
I love these lessons! Thank you Mr. Fripp. I've been working on Part I for a while. The challenge on that whole section for me-after figuring out that none of the online transcriptions is accurate and working it out note by note for myself-is speed and picking efficiency, meaning just more practice. I find the coda equally difficult. Playing the continuous double stops staccato at speed requires more energy and stamina for me than the whole running section.
Your suit is always perfect.and your studio and house is the temple of KC
I’m a jazz drummer and fascinated by your guitar lines and chops/techniques and your music Mr Fripp - been fascinated since enjoying Crimson live in NY at the Savoy in 1981! Say hello to you at a book or cd signing line - Frippertronics tour stop at World Financial Center & told you I was ready to play with King Crimson, how did you a business card but probably wasn’t taken seriously… I am still ready
It’s that pointed articulation that separates RF from all but a handful of creators on the guitar.
Usted realmente es un guitarrista venido de otra galaxia, mr. Fripp. Saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷
There's always something to learn from the sensei!
I love this. I can watch all day
yes I am that gent in the painting come back to life just to give Robert's fingering a thumbs up !
Saw you in town the other week Bob.
This album is a real masterpiece
How are you doing 😊
So frippin' good, Robert.
I was introduced to King Crimson when I was a teenager, and I'm still a huge Crimson fan. I've seen Robert Fripp a couple of times or so, and he's really great in concert. I never saw him with King Crimson, maybe someday. But one time when I I saw him in a nightclub, I wanted to try to talk with him, and then he was walking through the club, dressed in a suit and tie just like in this video, I went up to him, nervous as can be, and was about to gush all over him about how much I loved and adored him, and before I could say a word he just stopped, looked me in the eye, held up his hand, palm facing me, classic "Stop" hand sign, and just said one word: "No". He then turned his back on me and walked away, and I stood there, absolutely flabbergasted. I literally didn't know how to act, I couldn't believe that my hero had done that to me. But now I can look back on it and laugh, he probably knew I was going to Fanboy all over him, and he didn't want to deal with me whatsoever, so he just stopped me in my tracks before I could say a word, and walked away. To this very day, that's a fun memory, I was personally dissed by Robert Fripp, Yay! Robert Fripp dissed me to my face! So I can actually say I was spoken to by Robert Fripp, and met him face to face, and had a very brief conversation with him!
It was my friend from college, he told me the story on the Bus home about the 'ABC Wigan' affair. I was a fan in those days, with my little record player in my bedroom, a stereo sound player. If I remember as correct, it was Virgin Records from 1969 and into the prog rock era, and the music press, with the 'underground music'. I used to get a pie at the Empress café at dinner time {across the road from the ABC}. Can't remember now, but dad said it was like smashing two bin lids together, but I loved it. I was into Egg and T2 and other! Was it; 'I'll all work out in Boomland' T2, and Melody Maker for a time, some of those records got taken by a lodger, later on music went digital. I now write to the authorities suggesting digitalising education open source. Just an idea, like playing an old record.
Looking in Roberts
musical kitchen, what a fantastic chef Cook with 3 Michelin stars!
( technical fingering place on guitar!)
He teach us magical guitar playing.
Thanks mr. Fripp.
I compare it a little like mmmh,
Musical, Mantra Meditation.
Delicious!
Your digital dexterity is amazing. I'm not surprised la Toyah is always smiling..
This is positively golden from start to finish! Thank you so much Robert and Toyah!!!
Crafty guitarist indeed!
I love you, Mr. Fripp! You open up my head whilst playing my own axe...
That part of lark's tongue IS fantastic
Good ear!👍🎸🎸🎶🎼🎵
Just made perfect sense.
Right hand picking techniques are harder to discern and play with accurate yet intuitive inspiration.
Right hand images, please. Thank you most kind mystro.
I recently discovered the Washington Square Church record and have been listening it for two weeks straight. The entire album is beautiful beyond words.
I got "Exposure Box" last week. I really enjoy your music! Thank you, Maestro!
It *is* quite like music - there are a lot of similarities there... Well Done Robert on having a good go.
Since he mentions it in this video, I thought i would go and check out the album Lark's Tongues In Aspic....Wow!.....very cool stuff.
That is a cool alcove painting, there
I would love to dig through those bookshelves
J'en ai fumé des joints en l'écoutant!!
Given Fripp's stormy rep back in the good ole days, it's a great thing to see this great one mellow out and his sense of humor emerge. He's still sharp as ever, the guitar player's guitar player
50 years already??? Wow, that's huge, to think that this album inspired a lot of modern British bands like black midi, bcnr, squid, etc. Larks tongues for life
Visceralmente romantico, ciao Bob.
Hi Robert, love Sunday Lunch. Do you carry out finger stretching exercises before playing? Some of the playing on the fret board seems quite a stretch.
Makes me remember thé late wetton and bruford
His muscle / cellular memory is amazing.
Effortless flowing stream of notes and articulated phrasing. Fripps a trip! Google say jt productions " She dances in the Wind" or "Modern Composers"
thanks Bob
The thought that Robert Fripp may be searching for covers of his songs and analysing them. I'm not sure if it's a pleasing thought, or a menacing one.
Fascinating guitar playing as always! Can't wait for the next KC tour!
Thanks Robert at home, I will give it my best!
Go Toya! Slave to the rhythm is one of my favorite songs!
This Fripp has quietly, steadily generated an astonishing body of work. Bravo!
always be a pleasure see you doing the things on ytb. you are the greatest guitar player since 69 , when i was born. thanks for sharing your knowledge.
first one of these i've seen. spectacular. thank you robert for sharing and giving us a glimpse into your world.
Like an octopus, he has a brain in each finger.
🌎🌊🌲🔥🌪
Just to offer my respect to the great teacher and artist.
Very technical skills 😃
a light laugh, in 79 you were playing one of those late night concert shows and my friend and i were staring at the screen trying to figure out what you were doing with the fripptronics. our female friends could not understand what we found so interesting. i still remember that
It's always been all about "The Music" for me, Robert!
Thank you!
❤ 👑 🎸 🎶
good edit, I think you guys are glad to be home. spring has begun. yes I will go practice more
You make the impossible look mundane. Thanks for the tour of your lovely home. 50 years on and still no one has reached the prog benchmark you have set. Brilliant
Robert’s action and fretboard look like butter. The house is amazing as well.
Greatest prog rock musician/composer/innovator of all time!
Greetings Robert was wonderful to meet you and Toyah, love Bol \m/
Your brick hallway is spectacular! I love the arched ceiling.
you are a great robert...I love your music since 1969...thanks a lot for your music and with kc...
Thank you so much Robert for appearing on UA-cam and for the lesson. Hope to see more of these. I’ve been a fan since the 70’s while living in Torremolinos, Spain.
Cool riff
I must say, I do so love his and the Mrs videos. So funny, entertaining. And she is still a hottie. 🔥🔥🔥
If only life could be this good all the time indeed Mr. Fripp!
The fellow on the Telecaster was quite suddenly and unexpectedly carried off to a "Frame by Frame" moment at 6:17.
Seeing Robert on stage with that little Yamaha amp. Amazing. I used to do the same with a little VOX practice amp. 😂
Thank you, genius! Thank you from Germany.
Is that a Tokai guitar? Fantastic instruments.
You have a CATACOMB, Robert??? A red brick CATACOMB of artwork???
Wonders never cease.
Outstanding - thank you for the rich inspiration and instruction.
I don't watch many of these, however, the interludes on this, precious!
Gracias, muchas gracias por sus enseñanzas, por su arte, por su vida…Señor FRIPP !!! 🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻
Los “roqueros de ley” le amamos!!! Larga y sana vida para usted!!🙏🏻🎵🙏🏻
Robert is exquisitely turned out. Love the suit, _sensei!_
Loving every second of this episode of "At Home With..." and thank you for the lesson, kind sir!
Why thank you for the lovely impressionistic montage and for answering that question that always comes up occasionally, over the years.....Gee I wonder how Robert Fripp is doing and what he's up to? Life is more fun when you're up to something, and despite the high cost of living, it still remains popular!
