I know this doesnt have anything to do with the video specifically but it's a little insider info about that machine I thought you and everyone else in the comments might find interesting. I sealcoat and stripe parking lots for a living and we have used these little edgers for 20 years to clean deep cracks, bad oil spots, and edge the parking lots and driveways in prep for sealcoating and believe it or not, they work a thousand times better with a wire wheel on them instead of the blades! I dont know why, they just do.
You are right, that motor came on a dozen different edgers, some with the bowl carb, some with the diaphragm carb. Replacing it with a bowl style carb will give it a lot more life. Good call.
Took my 1 yr old pressure washer (won’t start) to the repair shop, they said it was the carburetor clogging up. They wanted to order a new carburetor and wouldn’t even fix it. $135 was the total including labor which was reasonable.
Too bad the new carb was a leaker. I hope you were able to save it. I have a 1989 model edger with a Tec 3 HP horizontal engine, looks identical to this one. It also had that diaphragm carb, and starting it, hot or cold, was more trouble than it should be. So 3-4 years ago, I just looked up a replacement carb for an H30 engine, and picked 1 of the float bowl ones, probably from Amazon. I have bought a few, and "Rop Shop" is one of the ones I have bought. If you freeze this video around the 3:00 mark, there is an air horn or filter adapter screwed on to the diaphragm carb. I just transferred that piece to the new Chines carb when I installed it on mine, and kept the original air filter, with no problems. One more thing - mine also had that flat noisy muffler. If you remember the Toro mowers with the TNT100 engines, the muffler went through the deck and exited down in the cutting area. That muffler fits this engine (it did for me, anyway), and it's less harsh (I wouldn't call a Tecumseh muffler "quiet"). If you have any of those mufflers in your horde of parts, you might want to try it.
Now that might change my mind I love that bow carburetor. The diaphragm carburetor should’ve never come on the market as far as I am concerned But who am I LOL
Jeff I've had good luck out of the after market Carbs from Amazon with the free returns - I think I've sent two back out of 15 . But remember to order the one's with free returns .....Not sure how long the time is for the returns - but when I get them I install them ASAP.
Great video, I have a McClane edger with that engine and I've got the governor out of adjustment. Will you do a video on setting the governor on the engine, please?
You might have to take the whole engine apart unbolt off of whatever its on flip the engine over how i did my one Kohler command and fit the pieces back in place that way its alot of work but worth doing if you want it to run smooth again
Hello. I found one of these and fixed it up. Trying to put a new blade on it now. Its close to 9 inches, but might be too long. Are you using a 9x2 or an 8x2 blade?
I ordered all the bits to rebuild my Tecumseh carb but im not so sure i can get it clean enough to run at the speed required to actually edge, we’ll see.
You guys just gotta look up the name and horsepower of whatever engine or model numbers if you have one lots of my engines don't have model numbers but do have names and the horsepower so i go from that and compare by looks because i don't always have a model number to look up for getting the exact replacement part but i tell you the aftermarket Kohler carburetor bowls are junk for the cv models of Kohlers they are and so are the oem ones garbage
Man i sure can't find drop of dodo on my 17.5hp tecumseh riding mower engine it takes a long time to start up so i was thinking maybe its not getting enough gas but no its getting the right amount of gas and the carburetor is all clean inside but i haven't checked the valves And i did notice when i redone the cover gasket one valve did seem a little lose or arm i don't remember all the names yall call these parts but i keep thinking the problem with it is one of the valves need reset and i have the tools to do that i have no instructions but know how to without those its the tecumseh engine that has the plastic carburetor bowl
I think those craftman eager one edgers were made between 1983 to 1984 or 1981 or 1982 to about 1984 after 1984 the craftman brand of lawn and garden equipment mowers push and selfpropeled edgers riding mowers tilers chainsaws there bush and hedge trimmers were all a silver gray color i think by at least 1985 for sure the craftsman lawn and garden equipment went to all silver and gray colored lawn equipment id have to check my sears catalogs and sears lawn and garden equipment sales catalog but im pretty all of their lawn and garden equipment was silver and gray by at least 1985
I know they are if they ain't right after installing they will be in 2 months after installing them oem ones are to some how i found that out so its better to buy another piece of crap than to blow more money on one just like the original that was crap before buying the cheap crappy one so another cheap one is i guess better because you'll save about 40 some dollars
Actually, Jeff If you want it to run right!!!!! you would use Tecumseh #632107 which is the same carb, but also has a main jet screw as well on the bottom of the carburetor making it fully adjustable!!!!!!!!!! The EPA mandated that manufacturers could no longer manufacture equipment with adjustable carbs anymore, but Tecumseh still continued to use the same carb body they just changed the lower jet to a nonadjustable type. So you can just use an older style carb in the place of the newer style one. Here is a video ua-cam.com/video/GmBRmL8-m7U/v-deo.html

wow! great comment and a good idea too
Awesome!! Thanks for the words of wisdom brother!
You are right, that motor came on a dozen different edgers, some with the bowl carb, some with the diaphragm carb. Replacing it with a bowl style carb will give it a lot more life. Good call.
Jeff I had the same machine and got that same carb. Worked well.🐔🐔🐔
Carb number and where you got it ??? Thank You
Great video. For future reference. I have had zero issues with Hipa and Hooai brand aftermarket carbs.
Good to know!
Took my 1 yr old pressure washer (won’t start) to the repair shop, they said it was the carburetor clogging up. They wanted to order a new carburetor and wouldn’t even fix it. $135 was the total including labor which was reasonable.
Yes, maybe you can fix the cheap carb and make it work. Could be a good machine for someone. Thanks for the video.
If I would have bought an expensive OEM carb. I wouldn't have any problems
Too bad the new carb was a leaker. I hope you were able to save it. I have a 1989 model edger with a Tec 3 HP horizontal engine, looks identical to this one. Those are some cute silkies
Thanks friend! I love em!
Now that might change my mind I love that bow carburetor. The diaphragm carburetor should’ve never come on the market as far as I am concerned But who am I LOL
Good video Jeff. Edgers were almost never used in my area, but I'm always looking for them. Those Tecumseh engines are great for minibikes.
Yes they are!
I think you can agreeing with me. I like that thank you
Jeff I've had good luck out of the after market Carbs from Amazon with the free returns - I think I've sent two back out of 15 . But remember to order the one's with free returns .....Not sure how long the time is for the returns - but when I get them I install them ASAP.
Wish you had listened the aftermarket carb #
That would have help us
Check the float level. Or maybe the needle came lose in shipping. Or was never assembled correctly.
it's crap either way
You remove the carb by removing the intake and the carb as a single unit from the cylinder (2 screws) then the carb from the manifold. Much easier...
Great video, I have a McClane edger with that engine and I've got the governor out of adjustment. Will you do a video on setting the governor on the engine, please?

I passed on one of these last year because I wasn't sure about the carb. I didn't know you could replace it with a float bowl carb.
Hello. I found one of these and fixed it up. Trying to put a new blade on it now. Its close to 9 inches, but might be too long. Are you using a 9x2 or an 8x2 blade?
Can't remember probably 9".
I ordered all the bits to rebuild my Tecumseh carb but im not so sure i can get it clean enough to run at the speed required to actually edge, we’ll see.
Jeff you should do more videos
Thanks Brian. I hope to!
What is the part number of the carburetor you ordered?
The reason I don’t watch his video much
He never give any useful information
You guys just gotta look up the name and horsepower of whatever engine or model numbers if you have one lots of my engines don't have model numbers but do have names and the horsepower so i go from that and compare by looks because i don't always have a model number to look up for getting the exact replacement part but i tell you the aftermarket Kohler carburetor bowls are junk for the cv models of Kohlers they are and so are the oem ones garbage
I have the same engine on my pressure washer
Can you give me the link on where to buy that carburetor
Sorry I made this video years ago.The part number is on the box I show in the video. Purchased through Amazon
Man i sure can't find drop of dodo on my 17.5hp tecumseh riding mower engine it takes a long time to start up so i was thinking maybe its not getting enough gas but no its getting the right amount of gas and the carburetor is all clean inside but i haven't checked the valves

lol! hi Bill!
Cool! thanks for the comment and info!
Whack the float housing with a wrench. Might stop leaking.
Yes, but so is the OEM one.
Kinda harsh with the Tecumseh hatred! Lol!
I have ptsd from working on so many...lol
Lmao that was funny, shutup im filmin. Lol
You know you could put a 19 mm mikuni carb on it and turn it into a racing edger.
lol!
Hey, i'm from Morrocco and i like to move working in usa, can you help me to find a job over there plz
lots of jobs right now, but I cannot help sorry
@@JeffsLittleEngineService why not?
That machine is clean looking has it even been used by the owner🙄🙄
What is the model number of your engine?
That was a bad ending to the vid hey jeff
yeah it was....
Which to you prefer, a leaky carb or a non functional one? 😆😂🤣
Actually, Jeff If you want it to run right!!!!! you would use Tecumseh #632107 which is the same carb, but also has a main jet screw as well on the bottom of the carburetor making it fully adjustable!!!!!!!!!!
