New subscriber here, your content is quality and the presentation is excellent! Simply adding my advice to further help:
1. Unbutton your jacket when you sit, rebutton when standing. Jackets that are tapered to flatter your body/waist area will be tighter when you sit.
2. Remember black shoes: more formal, brown: casual/semi-formal.
3. I actually prefer silk ties, they are traditionally used in business environments
Hi PD,
Thanks for your comment and we hope you're enjoying the content and subscribing to our channel. We are thrilled to have you! Thought we'd take some time to address your insightful response above. They are great points.
1. This is historically true, but following this channel you'll find that we often make it a point to dispel a lot of style myths. Yes, you typically should unbutton your jacket during day to day wear, but the ONLY real and practical reason for it, is to avoid unnecessary stress and wear and tear on the thread of your button. However, and with that said, the untold reality is that for media/presentation instances such as these, unbuttoning your suit jacket while seated, unfortunately does not look very flattering. Shirt folds and crinkles often ruin the picture, and the tie shifts is very likely to shift all over the place. Hence the reason why we often but not always, see the best dress News Anchors & TV personalities, keep their jackets buttoned even while seated to hold things together. (insert CNN Anderson Cooper, NFL Today, Good Morning America e.t.c)
Additionally, the ability to button your blazer or suit jacket while seated is actually a litmus test of proper tailoring. If a jacket can't be comfortable buttoned while seated, then it's simply too tight. In summary, this 'rule' should simply be a personal preference on what works best for said Gentleman, and/or the scenario in which he is in ( i.e. public media).
2. With regard to shoe choice, this again is personal preference. With men's styling and life events as well, we challenge our Gents to aim for 'what works best', as opposed to sticking to traditional dress rules, most of which cannot properly be explained. Brown shoes being casual or semi-formal, is simply not true, at least not for business. For cocktail or blacktie occasions, most certainly. It really all depends on the cut and finish of the shoe. Lace ups and monkstraps in either color are quite formal, while Penny, Tassled or Horsebit loafers are more casual. Brown shoes also tend to lend a bit more style & sophistication for business settings, due to the burnishing (darker toe and heel) of a fine quality constructed Blake Stitched or Goodyear welted pair of dress shoes. On the contrary, with darker suiting or if not in a super elegant design, black shoes tend to get lost in the crowd.
Now for the purpose of this specific video, featuring the primary focus of a black suit, we intended to take this opportunity to focus on a teaching moment, and in this case 'the most fitting shoe for the ensemble/occasion'. Many guys shy away from black suits for the apparent reason of it being boring or unnoticeable, and sure one could pair a black suit with a black shoe. However, we were aiming for a more inspiring, vibrant yet professionally classy office look. A pair of black shoes would have not only missed the mark here, but also extremely predictable and non-informative. Also, please keep in mind that we could have paired a more luxurious pinstripe or window pane suiting in this video, but doing so fails to educate our audience properly, and is honestly a suiting option at a significantly higher price point in most brands; and as such often out of reach for majority of young men.
3. Silk ties are great. We love them as well. Just in the right patterns and textures as stated in the video. Silk ties with a high sheen run the risk of making a suiting ensemble look out dated. A quick Google search for "Silk Tie Men's Suit" in the image tab, and you'll see what we mean. Unfortunately, majority of silk ties available for sale today are in poor taste of pattern, or luster, although again, there ARE many great silk ties out there. Specifically textured, or raw silk (see Drake's Ties, Viola Milano, e.t.c)
On the contrary cotton or wool fabric ties in the right width, are almost always fail proof. Most tie maker's utilizing these fabrics have gone through the careful selection process to identify tasteful color combinations or geometric tie patterns. Not to mention the texture of these fabrics lend to a more modern and updated GQ take on suiting.
Thanks again for the wonderful comments. Keep enjoying great style, and lean into your style preferences boldly. That's the beauty of it all. There's no one way to do it!
Cheers,
SG

Yo!! The tie!!! 🔥🔥🔥
When we say... " A tie will literally make or break a suiting combination"... We SRSLY mean it! 😤
But great catch sir. A great tie is everything, and you can never have too many! #CollectThose
Wow, first time ever hearing about pocket square hack. Thanks, will apply it from now on!
It’s a lethal hack! Nothing is more frustrating than a perfectly folded square disappearing or coming apart in the middle of an event/outing. Glad you enjoyed the vid! 🙌🏽

Yessir. It’s most definitely applies. The biggest item you’d have to pay attention is on tailoring. Perhaps we will take you up on a video on suit tailoring for different, body types. 😉 👍🏾

Are brown shoes on black suits generally acceptable?
Hi sir,
Yes Brown paired with black is a phenomenal combo. While black on black works, it can often come across as quite boring and bland. When wearing a black suit, we typically prefer to spice things up with a touch of earth tone brown. If you prefer to stick with black shoes, we recommend sticking with a colored shirt i.e. (pink, yellow, gingham red or blue) This will LIFT up the suiting ensemble, and avoid the typical 'limousine driver' effect very common with black suiting. 👌🏼

The pants are too tight, the pants should hang like drapery!
No no no. 😮 Dress to be taken seriously not whimsically. Too many classic style faux pas to mention. The black suit maybe fine for creatives or tech industry but if you’re in finance or law and doing business in the day, Please always opt for shades of navy or gray. White shirt or pale blue. Medium to dark brown or black oxfords with laces!! pair with solid or stripe rep tie within corresponding colors of shirt and pocket square. with .Your conversation should be louder than your shirt and tie.than your shirt. Save pink for casual Friday. The black is best for late fall or winter and in evenings to business dinner or networking events.
