  • Welcome back everyone..
    In this video i will demonstrate the correct way of installing a valve cover gasket with the grommets.
    I will clear some misconceptions about the grommets, provide some tricks and hints.
    The car in the video is a 2008 but all 93s with the 2.0L engine from 2003 are the same, minor differences where some cars may have a ground cable connected to the valve cover.
    I used a MAHLE set part number VS50629 which is good quality and includes the grommets, you don't have to replace the grommets if they are still delicate, i just did it for demonstration.

    I won't be able to complete this repair... i have the old gasket removed but I do not still have my high school toothbrush... 😂

      My last replacement was 2 years ago and cost me US$250-, next time I would be confidence enough to Do It Myself ...

    I just did this and it was complete hell. The inside of this cover was most likely never cleaned before I had the car. Sludge everywhere. Took me 3 cans of brake cleaner to get it going. Gaskets around the sparkplugs where melted on and needed all my body weight and a flathead to get them off.

    I just did this and the gaskets around the spark plug holes were impossible to get off. I think they were 207k miles old...extremely brittle rocks. I don't have a heat gun and ended up a pouring a little boiling water around them. Then I could pick them up with a pair of needle nose pliers no problem. Cleaned everything with Brakleen and dried it all up before putting back together. I think everything is fine, but just since this was my own idea and not sanctioned by anyone...was that really stupid?

    Great video again my friend, I wasn't aware you could buy just the grommets? I already done this job and now I know why 1 bolt snapped when torque setting because of worn grommet😥

    Where did you source the gasket kit with the grommets from? I am in the UK and cannot seem to find any that aren't United States suppliers.
    Thank you for these fantastic videos. Very helpful as most of it transfers over to a Z20NET Opel/Vauxhall Vectra.

      @@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Unfortunately it ends up being quite expensive to ship to the UK, but I did find a part number for the bolt with grommet, Vauxhall / Opel 12789896. Also very expensive as according to an EPC I found online you need 14 of them. Thank you for the help anyway!

    Awesome man! i need to do mine but have been procastinating over it.
    A bolt has a section of plain shank under the head, whereas a screw has thread all the way to the head!
    I've got the same Maptun air filter as you. had it for 105,000 miles now. Have you also removed the swan neck?
    I'm hoping my engine looks like yours!! It's done 140,000 miles now and I've had it 100,000 and changed the oil every 5k with a flush every time.

      @@TheFlyingMechanicDIY The swan neck is the air intake pipe from the bottom of the air box through the inner wing and round to in front of the rad. Disconnect it from under the air box and allow the engine to breathe direct from the inner wing area. Not only will it breathe better, but the air here is cleaner so you won't need to clean that filter so often.

      Cyclone Cyd oh ok, i was thinking about it for a while, i actually wanted to modify the tip of the duct in-front of the radiator to be facing forward rather than facing rearward as it comes from factory .. thought this may ease air suction into the engine and reduce its temperature ..

      @@TheFlyingMechanicDIY just disconnect the intake pipe at the bottom of the airbox and push it out of the way. You have to take the bumper off to remove it from the car.

    What is it that makes an engine look good or not good? I just did my valve cover gasket (207k miles) and I think the engine looked fine, but I'm having trouble finding examples to compare it to and descriptions of what exactly I should be looking for.

    Hi. Thanks for useful content ! Can you share part numbers of those grommets ? Or URL where buy. Also I have question about what is tightening torque in nm for screws on valvet cover ? BR from Norway

      Torque is 10nm
      Grommets only available as part of the valve cover gasket kit, search for whats connivence in Norway from the following makers:
      MAHLE VS50629
      FEL-PRO VS50772R
      VICTOR REINZ 153623601.

      @@mmgsmadminbass6889 The grommets aren't available by themselves as mentioned above but there is a part number for the bolts with grommets - GM/Opel 12789896

    Had my cam cover powder coated in Car body colour lime green

    I did mine because it had gone brittle (original) 14 years old, Also had to replace the original rear bearing. Now looks like its got oil leak coming from bottom of timing chain cover and a coolant leak..also looks like all the suspension bushes are perished...😞 Car has a full service history so don't know what's gone on in the past...its at 163 k miles...its had a hard life.

      Kinda of expected after 14 years and 160k 😬 but good luck with it..
      By the way, its rare that the timing cover gasket leak, its usually the front crank seal leaks down..
      Common Coolant leaks are cap, bottle, water pump, and the plastic T connection front of the valve cover..

      They should connect to the bracket at the right side of the engine to prevent them from moving.. maybe the plastic parts that holds them are broken

      @@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Thanks man. Will have a look in the morning.. They are cheap to buy here in uk I've got the estate version not to many sold with the 2.0 turbo engine mostly diesel and alot of 1.8 turbo. So its classed as rare...lol..catch you later..👍 thanks

    Hey Friend - take that K&N Air Filter and trow away . Replace with good REAL filter . K&N Filter are bad Filters and eventually will harm the engine .

      Cyclone Cyd I’ve ran a k and n panel on both my 93 vector and 93 aero for 5 years and had not one single problem :)

      @@toby5710 I've had them on every car I've owned, including 2x rally cars. This one from my 9-3 has done 90,000 miles in 8 years: ua-cam.com/video/wst6uYoOeeY/v-deo.html.
      I'm also an Automotive Engineer of 35 years at the UK's largest OE, where I can ask other Engineers of every discipline for advice and knowledge.
      It's not the filters that's the problem, but poor installation or over oiling. Simples.
