Evidently it will come down to the homeless people making the choice of staying drug free and rehabilitate themselves back into society. Some won’t give up the freedom, I’m interested in seeing how this government program turns out with it’s guinea pigs lol.
The issue is when some of the homeless people come in, they tend to destroy the place. Lot of them don't want to work and will well the AC and Heater to get drugs.
It’s amazing that people like you think that homelessness = drug addiction. I’m fact a lot of homeless people are employed, if you work minimum wage job in LA you will be on the streets literally, the cost of housing is outrageous.
So they stole Elvis Summer's idea from the Tiny House Project when the California government was saying 4 years ago that his tiny houses were not a good temporary solution. I am glad they were able to implement it however, I strongly believe they should be working alongside the person that had the idea in the first place and is still trying to make it happen. He could be the bridge between government agencies and the homeless. I really hope many people can have a new start in a safe, clean, supportive place and that this project can become stronger and bigger.
it will fail because they all would rather do drugs and drink all day then actually pick themselves up out of it. it may help a couple people but the vast majority will just abuse it like they always do.
It has been going on already due to weather, just about legalizing drug use and making decriminalization of crimes associated with drug ; and free drug rehab as many times as they want/need. These will make it more enticing
The warmer West Coast (more temperate) climate has always attracted homeless. West Coast in general just has more temperate weather from Seattle down to San Diego. Earthquakes happen often but don't do massive damage often. Wildfires being the main issue for rural areas & air quality of all WC states. Being homeless in Midwest/Eastcoast would just freeze or possibly injured from the major increase in multiple East/Gulfcoast hurricanes if they couldn't find shelter.
Ok let me tell you something the only homeless that show up from out of state or county is because the county officials gave them a bus ticket.... Every time these good programs get over run its because of official who don't want to deal with their own homeless populations shipping then off...
Good temporary effort. However, the only way to get rid of massive homelessness altogether is to not create the economic conditions that led to homelessness in the first place. Stop shipping middle class jobs overseas. Stop allowing companies like Uber, Amazon, Door Dash and others to steal wages, and re-classify workers as contractors so they don't have to pay them employee benefits. Stop allowing corporations to gain at the expense of workers. America is collapsing from the inside out because of such practices whether you care to see this connection or not.
These things will help, but not really that much to be honesy. Theres a big difference between short term homelessness and long term, Almost every issue youve named impact people who are considered "short term" homeless far more than long term. Also, there will ALWAYS be homelessness because it has just as much to do with mental illness and drug abuse than any of the issues youve named. Solutions like these tiny homes are an excellent idea for this issue that simply will never be "solved".
@@barefootiguana8471 Like cancer, once a person slips into homelessness, it is almost impossible to get out. So, yes, homelessness is long term. I think this is a great idea. With housing prices continuing to rise there will be more and more people who are homeless, not because of drugs, alcohol or mental illness, but because they can’t find affordable housing and can’t make a living wage. They should however require them to contribute in some way, either a small amount of money if they do have a job, or by volunteer work on site if they don’t. They should not be allowed to just sit around and do nothing while living there.
From what I know if you don't suffer from those problems you mention, work a full time job, even minimum wage, then you can get into a sliding rent housing unit. Or get a voucher. Varies by state.
How about asking them to work, put in sweat equity, to help off set the cost of their housing and food? Are they sweeping the streets? Making them go plant trees and shrubbery in the parks? Dig out hiking trails in the forests? Are they getting totally free life support?
After that village is filled, I would like to see Blondie and the Preacher come back in a month and take a tour at midnight. There's a lot of open space and no rent at Slab City. Send them out to there.

Keep doing this, it's wonderful! All the people here saying it's going to be a drug den, etc, I suppose you prefer all the homeless to live in tents under the bridge or on the sidewalk. There might be a lot of substance abuse with the homeless, but remaining on the streets will not help them, and besides, many homeless don't do any drugs. Many have mental or physical illness or just a very bad period of their lives without support. You can have all my tax money for this project. I am willing to donate to this.

An idea to help with the homelessness is better than nothing at all. Some commenters rather just do nothing and let the problem exasperate to what we have now. Closing your eyes and snicker is not a solution. People are homeless because they have mental health issues or they were economically displaced. Get them in these tiny homes and help them get back to their feet. It may or may not work but at least we are trying.
ua-cam.com/video/n6h7fL22WCE/v-deo.html the original man who thought of it. He was actually doing something about it but the city turned him down. Now look stole his idea. Smh.....
Goodluck with that as long as LA keeps babying the homeless there will always be homeless people. Why do I have to wake up everymorning to work and these people don’t ?
Always good to shed light on social issues. As a mostly retired social worker I really like the documentary on UA-cam called Seattle's Dying and it's sequel. It promotes the Rhode Island model of dealing with the homeless as being best. I would have to agree. It's not compassionate to leave people on the street that will die and heard others along the way. The Rhode Island model dedicates a prison just for the homeless. Not the student going to college who lives out of his car but the chronic homeless who choose it as a lifestyle. I'm talking about the drug addicted mentally ill. Talking about the squatters who break local laws regularly. In the prison you differentiate the ones that are so mentally ill who will never know how to brush their teeth versus the drug addicted, the mentally ill or both. The graduates of this program are thankful and say they would have ended up dead if it wasn't for intervention. The great homeless industrial complex is costing way too much money and doing way too little care. Truly special interest at the trough of the taxpayer. These tiny home villages are crazy expensive when we could have army barracks that people can voluntarily live in. You staff it with tons of mental health workers and social workers in case managers who get these people out of the barracks into housing in a community that they can afford. You cannot expect Los Angeles to be affordable for everyone. Yes we need low cost housing for people who work in the service industry. The homeless do commit crimes but we're not prosecuting so the ones that refuse the army barracks solution for getting off the street then can find themselves in this dedicated prison. Society has got to stop feeding the homeless. If you feed them you only encourage this lifestyle. Hardly anybody makes a change in their life unless it gets painful enough. Not everyone will survive this process and many people will die but that is a fact of life. People are dying constantly everywhere, whether they're homeless or not. Letting homeless have this lifestyle is not compassionate. It is not freedom. It's a lifestyle that brings death, mental illness, is a danger to others and a plague on the city with blight. People work their whole life to buy a home and tourists save up to go on vacation but when the homeless take over an area what's the point of the American dream of saving and working hard and doing the responsible thing that leads to a lifestyle of abundance. Success in abundance is nothing to apologize for. The taxes of these citizens should be used in a productive good way, not wasted on crazy programs that are failing us all. This lifestyle has got to come to an end! The open-minded politicians, the homeless industrial complex are supposed to be the grown ups in the room yet they're failing all of us. We need to get back to common Sense. This notion of personal freedom and expression is crazy when it tears down property values and shutters businesses and is a danger to everyone. Taking over sidewalks, feces, urine and danger that makes our city unlivable is not okay. It is not compassionate to the homeless or the taxpayers. With the Rhode Island model there will be some who upon graduation will only be able to live in a group home. They've done so much damage to their brain that it may take years if ever to come back on line where they can live independently. We have to have a carrot and stick approach. An option to get off the street. Yet if not chosen then involuntary lockup in the dedicated prison staffed with workers to help them regain their skills to live independently. I'm not willing to be open-minded about this even as an old social worker.
Well, you can work, but in LA, most of the people are two paychecks away from becoming homeless. So, now, you don t have to worry you will end up on streets but you can save up money, money which most of them would have gone on the high rents
Can we PLEASE have more of these in LA instead of shelters? A big reason we have such a homeless problem on CA is because the shelters are crowded, unsafe, and provide no privacy for the people staying there. Often times for women and children, staying out on the street is safer than a shelter because of the psychos and creeps they have to share a space with. We definitely have enough underutilized land to build these on, like parking lots.
Housing discrimination is one of the reasons that caused this mess. There are literally tents on sidewalks even in the nice neighborhoods now as well. LA and LA county is turning into one big tent area. Many of these homeless people once had jobs and fell on hard times, others simply had rough lives. Being homeless also turns good people into drug addicts (to escape their pain), many develop schizophrenia, or Late Onset schizophrenia. But LA was never as bad as it is now! It is one big area full of tents all over the place! Many people are also now moving out of Los Angeles compared to any other time in history.
What a good effort to help people who are homeless due to any circumstances . As a human being we should help them in support their new lives to be better even they struggle to live in the city. 🥰 Thank you.

These places have curfews inforced, and a bunch of guidelines to qualify to be in one. They really glazed over that, a lot of the homeless aren't taking to the idea simply because they feel it also takes away their freedom. Very good idea. I hope more people and companies do more of this. it is a start to end homelessness . I hope it works. Some people care about others.

This will encourage homeless from other states to go to LA.
They are already sending their homeless to CA
😷😩😩

I've seen something similar done in Europe and other places.
Great Idea !
@Sara Mill What gets trashed ?
@Sara Mill It hopefully will help those who can transition with services . It hopefully will help those who can do it .
Triplets? WOW!
I feel like I'm living in the Wizard of Oz !!!
Thank you, GOD SEES THIS AND HES SO HAPPY!!
Now why would they want to work, free housing. Awesome!
Many of them want to work and dont wana be poor. its more difficult for them to get a job if they are homeless and dont have access to housing.
If they don't want to work that in and of itself is a form of mental illness, as its human nature to want to succeed in life...
You need an address to apply for jobs.
I’m gonna be the one to do this for the homeless in Arizona.
Your such wonderful people
Housing discrimination is one of the reasons that caused this mess.
So WONDERFULL God BLESS these PEOPLE and all the homeless PEOPLE
What a good effort to help people who are homeless due to any circumstances . As a human being we should help them in support their new lives to be better even they struggle to live in the city. 🥰 Thank you.
idea 💡. The homeless there should do some labor to keep their free homes . Nothings Free $
Make them pick up the trash that they created in the area
United States needs this in every city 🥺
Looks great now wait till all the criminals move in
Lol
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! And the kids are awesome ❤❤❤
I'm going to go "homeless" so I can get one of these.

Have fun! It's not a fun life. Go for it.
SADLY, That WILL become the "mindset" for Waaaaaay too many LAZY people !!!!
Come and build some here in Oxnard and Ventura we also have homeless family’s , it would be a big blessing for many. And also 🙏 thank you so much for what you are doing.
How appropriate to have a Valley Girl report on this! Let's see what it looks like in six months to a year; typically the homeless refuse to follow rules, give up addictions, etc. even in exchange for decent living conditions.
May all given this opportunity please be thankful, you’ll be the beginning of the end of the stop and then lift up of homelessness. It’s really important what all of you are doing. Builders and dwellers together!
At the same time, people gotta be willing to help themselves, there's only so much you can do to help, they have to do their part.
📢 San Bernardino County 📣 NEEDS THIS ASAP⚠️
How’d those projects in LA work for you in the 60s and 70s?
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to suffer by it.
Hope da homeless don't burn it down
That's cool bro I like the ideal , thanks for all the support
Wow,wow!let the donations Pour in🤗💞
this will all fall apart just like it has everywhere it's been tried.
You have 60,000+ homeless & your talking about ending homelessness with 36 homes?!?!? Double the size 103 units?!?! There is OVER 60k+ in LA alone!!! That is a complete failure! If that was graded that would be a F x's 10,000!
@@surferxblood Wicked TRUE, man ...... It's just someone's FANTASY !!!!!!
