    So glad to finally see this video. Here's hoping that people see and understand, economic refugees are not "bad" people, they have just been forced out of housing do the costs rising so much faster than incomes. Thank you for this very important and informative video. Oh and thanks for making me a star!

      Totally agree with you. They need to start building communities like this for anyone interested, as well as just smaller homes in general, i.e. 1,500 sq.ft or larger homes for hundreds of thousands of dollars, instead of smaller, more affordable homes. I am majorly downsizing and planning on moving; sadly have to rent and pray I can pay everything, then who knows, a small place of my very own.

      @LadyIarConnacht 4 роки тому +17

      @Richard Quinones Yeah, right. It's the working class that would be paying hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to "manage" a place like this. It's the zoning boards and elite upper class, concentrated power and not very "white" that keep us from living inexpensively in our own homes.

      @songbirdforjesus2381 4 роки тому +13

      @Richard Quinones I see rich Latin, Black and Asian elites all the time. Maybe this area has more white people I don't know I have never been there. America is as big as Europe. It is so vast you will find lots of Latin people here in North Carolina. In fact when I first moved here I was amazed at how well so many black people were doing. It's different wherever you go as far as demographics it seems that most of the people interviewed in that Village were white. It takes a lot to make it here in America is an expensive place to live. Most low-income immigrants don't realize this fact. Many families are moving in together. Even middle-income people. The cost of living in America is atrocious. In order to make it and do well you have to be able to speak English, have a skill and an ability to work for yourself or an education. Usually the husband and wife both have to work and work very hard to save money and have food on the table a vehicle to get back and forth to work health benefits although Social Services helps a lot of people even people who own their own homes for benefits for children Healthcare. It is a struggle but if you have a good attitude and have decent social skills you can make it here. Also understanding the culture and exactly what it takes 2 do well in America must be a challenge and is even for people born here.

    • @valeriehancotte-galan4790

      @rockstarofredondo 2 роки тому +1

      @@valeriehancotte-galan4790 that’s not true. It has very little to do with “training”. Dogs bark if there is stimulation. Some will do it more than others. Living in close proximity to neighbors, you are bound to hear their dogs barking if they have them.

The relief, the removal of fear and knowing I wasn't going to spend the rest of my life on the street was so over whelming all I could was cry. As a low income disabled human myself, I’ve been homeless a few times last year which was scary as all hell, I’m just lucky I had help and a place to rest my head safely. But I could easily have ended up permanently on the streets and never have a safe space to have my son. I’m now married and in a safe place with my three kids and wife. It’s crazy what two years of difference can bring.

We'll keep the big house for another 10 years, it will be stability and space for the kids. But once they are solid and taking care of themselves I am going to shed all this weight. And a place like that honestly looks perfect! Some people to associate with and public spaces, some little things to do, a door to lock and a place to get away and recharge sometimes. A place like this is a dream retirement ♥

    Opportunity Village is helping people and each one is very unique as is the people that live in them. This is America and no one should ever be homeless. Alice is a very talented seamstress and I'm surprised Alice isn't working part time sewing. Opportunity 💜💜💜💜💜💜

      Yes i worked for City of Atlanta as a S.W.E.E.T. Officer. I saw so much that could be done throughout the city. I’d go to community meetings and would make suggestions was even hoping to get to Ms. Bottoms…they made sure to furlough me out😔 Sad

    This is one of the best ideas i have ever witnessed! We should make these everywhere!! I hate the fact that others look down on homeless people as if they have some sort of defect. The truth is almost anyone can become down n out finding themselves unsheltered. It only takes a month of no paycheck for most of us to lose our happy home. Me and my mom lived in a station wagon for one whole winter once when i was a kid because saving 1500 or 2 grand for first month rent and deposit is tough when you have a kid. You appreciate creature comforts even more when you experience life without them.

      I'm sorry you went through that as a kid, so many comforts many take for granted. People deserve dignity and a hand up, I'm sure you are tough because of those experiences and sure hope you nurture and treat yourself to pamper you, you are worth it and these homes are such a godsend to so many needing meds, temporary housing, detox, waiting for disability, etc., God bless
