Riding a moped is dangerous than driving a car in terms of being injured when having an accident. American cities and roads, for what I know, are not designed for riding bicycles, bikes or mopeds.
I know right? That's what I was thinking!
Don’t be a yes ma’am no ma’am kinda of guy. Step up and buy your daughter a better ride. Luckily your in are in the country .
Moped bad idea Randy.
Need to step up to the wife and get your daughter a better ride
I’d agree with that. A moped is a TERRIBLE idea…
Anything on two wheels is a bad idea in my area there's not even a large town or city last five years three people on a bicycle and 2 on moped that can be ridden on the road had been hit and killed I am in Oklahoma
So Randy, I agree with everybody else a moped for a girl who especially doesn’t know how to even ride a bicycle is incredibly dangerous. If you have shared custody with her mom, then this is time for a discussion to keep your daughter safe. If she’s not a good driver, then you take her out and help her learn how to drive and if not, then you pay for a school that will help her learn how to drive, I have also shared custody of children and there’s some times when you have to choose your battles. It’s unknown at this point by us. If you have a good relationship with your daughter, and/or her mother, however, keep her safe, and I’m not suggesting you argue, but I am suggesting you make a case for her having a car and the things you can do to help her become a better driver. That’s what we do as dads. I too, have shared custody of children and I too have been in the circumstance. I did not have a good relationship with my kids, mom however, we were able to work out these car issues.
The car is electronically limited to 80 MPH, and it will do 80. The AC does use a LOT of energy. I hardly use it. Great little EV's! The longer you have it the more you'll appreciate it!
My son's first car was a Mercury Grand Marquis, yes it was kind of hard for him to park at first but definitely it was something I felt he'd be safe in. Four years later, he still loves it and drives it..
@@Durham.Reality something much nicer
@@KevRalph nice first car there the 4.6L v8 those cars have are bullet proof too they just last.
I must insist, you two and Santa must do a car trek like series.
The trailer hitch is for a bike carrier. I recommend a emergency ebike for it.
That's more expensive than the car!
A free fix is the best fix!
I actually saw a Mitsubishi MiEV at the pharmacy yesterday. It was the local pharmacy's run-around car for delivering meds to people. I'm sure for local errands there's more than enough range.
Maybe not the best car for driving in heavy rains, given the dinky tires and light weight!
In Estonia, until couple years ago, these cars were used by social workers as their work vehicles for transporting elderly and such to medical visits. You can find this info by googling "mitsubishi miev sotsiaal"
It's probably not lightweight as you think, 2400lb
I dont know if you researched it yet but that "B" selection on the gear shift is for full power and regen mode.
Full regen when lifting off the throttle.
But you'll get max regen from the brake.
Randy, rebuild the battery bank yourself. It probably wont cost much and it would make an awesome video.
@Ayo Bummer. Thought it would be cool. I guess these are sealed.
@Ayo yes it is being done.. they are replacing the battery cells with 94ah cells that are the same size.. gives this car a 170mile range
@@portlandlocalchurch8168 who is replacing the cells? I would love to get that done for mine.
It’s been a while since I have seen an Mitsubishi i-MiEV road test. By anyone. Counting your two videos, the total is 2. In over 2 years. I enjoyed them.
The I-MiEV is back! Sorta.
Sorta cool. Because it got a good air conditioning. For a few slow miles.
The three of you together is awesome! Good to see the range is better! Maybe your daughter will change her mind.
I like all the cars you pick Randy, it's very enjoyable to watch. Hey Mikey! 😎👌👍
put a set of wiper blades on your list Randy.
Well done on trying to fix up this i-MiEV! You did more than I could have. If I lived in the continental USA, I would've bought it off you, because I would like to try my hand at swapping all those 50-55 amp-hour cells. Apparently, third-party companies can make the same-sized battery hold 70 amp-hour cells in the exact same configuration. It would be fun to try and put those newer type cells in this car. I very much like how small this car is. I hope your relative learns to ride a pedal bicycle FIRST! Also, your relative should use an e-bike, not some rubbish moped. I ran a moped in Europe for years, and I could only WISH for an electric one back in the 1980s. The noise and stink of those things is powerful. Yet...I put over 8,000 kms a year on my old Piaggio. That prevented me from ruining my car in European city traffic and save it for open highway driving. Aloha and good luck!
I think we're at 5 to 10 years away from being able to fix up these old EVs I hope they're still around to be saved
@@rp9674 Ah, yes... I can but dream...
@jimcabezola3051 yes, I think about it all the time, that's why I commented. It would be sad to see these short-rangeEVs get scrapped prematurely
Whoever you sell it to, i hope that they will bring it back and put it on youtube!
We leased an i Miev brand new in 2012. It was a kid hauler during the three years we had it and it became a family pet. Unfortunately the residual on the lease end was cost prohibitive at the time. Up to the present we have acquired a Tesla Model 3…, and another dirt cheap I-Miev! Once again we love it. It’s not perfect and neither is any other car, but it’s vastly underrated IMHO.
Contact your daughter. Bypass mother. She is old enough.
You did great making it to the cementary, I love Mike's good humor a good friend 😊
Hi Randy. I have one of this. I bought brand new. When I bought (2012), I was paying the car with my gas savings. It is a very Japanese/ Europe’s car. Only the essentials! Still my commuter car! When the car had 93k miles, the turtle light started to come on all the time. It should come on only when the energy is almost zero only. Mitsubishi change the battery under warranty! So, the solution there is , change battery, which is expensive. LMK if you need more info. Good luck!
@Auto Action Rebuild and @Monkey Wrench Mike always enjoy watching your channel 🙏😇
I know this channel is about buying and flipping cars but you guys are so funny 🤣 I love this channel!
Glad you enjoy it!
This is the most fun these guys have seen in years 😂😂 omg Randy you and Mike together are a riot, that quote made me laugh my ass off haha
Enjoy your weekend Randy! Another great one!
How in the hell you did it? Wow good job randy! Keep it up! Love seeing MWM man it’s so cool to see him in these videos!
The catch word "Bougie" was replaced with a catch phrase "stealth wealth". I love the channel. I don't care what types of cars you buy and flip. The main point is can you make any money when you resell. 💰
I bought a 2012 i-miev when it first came out, and still using it. When it was new the range was 96 miles, and I actually did get that much out of it once, but I was driving 15 mph on back streets at night the whole way, it was just an experiment. For a long time the range settled in around 60 miles, and the car totally changed my driving style: always on city streets and staying under 35 mph, and never using the heat or A/C. The climate control and keeping the power output in the grey area (past the geen) are the two things that really eat the charge. The other electrical components (lights, stereo, and most importantly the heated driver seat) are powered by the 12-volt battery and don't affect the range. Now, at 12 years old and 107,000 miles, the main battery is definitely worn-out, but I still use it as my everyday car. I almost never drive it on the freeway, and if I do, it's only good for about 3 miles before the turtle comes on. The full-charge range is 43 miles. I laughed when Mike said "It's like a Tesla ... but not". Then later I almost fell on the floor laughing when you said "It's almost a Lamborghini, just ... just not".
These are the type of videos I enjoy, good job Randy👍👍
Hi Randy love the content man ! is it not a tortoise ? I've been watching you for years and you're defo my favourite youtuber .I love how you change it up and move with the times so good job man and good luck for the future , all the way from the UK .
This Mitsubishi was the first car I came across as an alternative to the Leaf that wasnt a joke; originally sold with a petrol engine (if you didnt know), and also badged as a Peugeot in either form; it didnt have a great reputation, too light at the front - as you found, it can easily aquaplane, and was notorious for understeering even in the dry.
The biggest issue with the EV version is the lack of replacement batteries, even when you COULD still get them, they were stupid money, three times the cost of the Leaf pack, but even less capacity.
I suspect it was a "compliance" car, as it was never updated and there was never a replacement model for it; especially when you consider how popular the Outlander PHEV became.
i miev looks like fun if you could get it to work.
I guess I'm the only one that thinks that kids should earn their own money and buy their own car car like I did
Good to see your friend Mike
I really like those iMievs! First electeic car I drove. Wouldn't mind finding one for the wife unit's commute.
Such a neat little car. I remember seeing them for the 1st time.
This trip reminds me of those two guys routing for Aspen, Colorado... cause it is raining, old battery is not replaced, and no cell phones, what else can be braver than that ... Kudos for you guys taking such risks for the sake of making us watching if you gonna make it back home ...
You keep doing what you're doing you're good.
Really depends on where you drive it I live in the city and usually just fly anywhere past New York it can do like 80-100 pure city it’s like an electric bike so it’s actually better but when going out of town I notice it loses battery faster
Getch-ya some boat dock bumpers and bolt them around the body-work! No more door dents!
😂
Love watching both of ya'll. Vlogs are phenomenal
Randy, very good content . I enjoy watching your channel . I have never seen this Mitsubishi car before. Anyways very cool how you and Mike (Monkey Wrench Mike) help each other out.
Very cool 👍. Look forward to watching more videos 👍.
This is a great video. Thanks for posting.
Mike face was funny when you told him we going 35mpr on 65 freeway
It was very helpful for me, that I found this hint.
Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot iON suffer a similar problem and also there riding the car empty to no more of the 16 charge status segments.
Recharging it with the AC- Charger to full it will pause at some 80% and have this smoothing process as well.
Mine does not have the turtle on - this typically happens, when Cell Voltage Drift is too high, as you explain at some 13:00
Cell status can be checked using an OBD-Link Adapter and the canion App on Androids.
Hi Randy ! We bought a 2012 model in 2015 with less than 10k miles on it ! It has served us very well until a few weeks ago when it quit charging . It has about 40k miles on it now and if my research is correct the charging problem is in the on-board charger . We live in Tulsa and the nearest Mitsubishi dealers are about 100 miles from here !! The dealer in Springdale has quoted us about $4,500 to replace the on-board charger . I am in a quandry as to how to proceed with this car . The battery pack is still in excellent shape though . When we first bought the car it would get nearly 90 miles/charge and recently it was getting about 50-65 miles/charge ! (without using the A/C of course😁) Thanks for sharing your iMiEV adventure though .
poser
That wiper is hanging on for dear life LOL
Nice work randy!
You're my fav you tuber ,Randy
Thank you
The girl is an adult now so she can pick up the Mitsubishi the dad gave her and call it a day.
Not exactly. She lives with her mother and step-dad so kinda their house their rules type situation.
@AutoAuctionRebuilds That's a shame. Probably, she has to do like Arnie Cunningham from Christine and store the car somewhere else. Anyways, you did your part as a caring father and no one can take that from you. 👍
Adult or not, and rules aside....I don't think that Randy would want to give his daughter a car that couldn't get out of its own way. If he does get her a car, I'm sure he'll find something much better and reliable.
Legally your correct but "Hell Hath No Fury Than That Of A Woman Scorn" Married Twice.
@@rjft7003 That didn't end very well for kid or car.
That Mitsubishi could be a good car for someone with a lot of land to use as a sort of touring vehicle like a golf cart.
You might be on to something. But please share any forums or sources where you figured this out from.
For real voltage smoothing or balancing is achieved best with banks of cells in series. With some modules in the battery In parallel you're bound to wound up with w headache.
Do three full dischare snd charges
So nice to see you and Monkey wrench Mike doing another video together. You all make a great team 😎😎👍👍
Honestly you should tell her parents that you have the car and see what they think. They may reconsider if they hear how perfect the car is for her!
I wouldn't want to put a new driver in this thing, even if they drive short ranges, I'd be afraid it would go into turtle mode again.
@@mattwolf7698 true.
I love EVS. Especially this one, it has less electromagnetic fields to harm your body than the larger counterparts. Even less battery acid.
Randy, you can purchase ré manufactured batteries for the Mitsubishi IMIEV like you can for the Prius! You should check on that and see what one cost! If it’s cheap! Change it out and give the car to your daughter
I like it ❤
i drive about 20 miles when i go out would love this car
I would bypass the idea of riding a Moped. When I was younger, I wanted to do this because it'd be good enough around the city, great fuel economy, cheap/no insurance needed, etc - But with the recent trend of vehicles getting larger and larger, and more people gravitating towards SUV's and Trucks in the American market, I wouldn't be caught dead on any sort of motor-bike. At least the i-MiEV has some sort of structure to keep you safe.
The 1940 Chevy has seen many rain storms over the last 83 years. I wouldn't worry about it.
just replace the bad battery cells, is an easy jobs with the tools you have
Everyone should have a friend like Monkey wrench Mike. Mike I have a piano that I need to get moved.
You know, people tend to forget that the speed limit is the fastest you're allowed to drive. It's not how fast you're required to drive. You can drive slower than the speed limit. It's not against the law. Scooters, mopeds and bicycles all go slower than the speed limit on the road. So do some car drivers.
not exactly, on many roads there is a minimum speed one must drive, here in KCMO it is 40 miles per hour in a 60 zone.
If you search for imiev battery replacement on youtube there is a video of someone replacing a bad cell. Does not look too hard.
Pennsylvania looks just like that minus the tornado's.
Randy, 100 percent Jake might be interested in the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. He has rebuilt EV s.
You both are my favorite videos
Top Gear, the UK car show did a test on this car when it was released. They compared it to the Leaf.
Your a good man Randy, I hate it for you man but I’m sure it’ll go to someone who wants it, keep up the great content
The good thing about this car is that if you give it to her as a gift at least she wont get a speeding ticket by an cop. Also you two together always make me laugh
Worth replacing those couple of batteries I think that you said they aren't working right the couple cells
Thanks for the video, Randy.
Before SC-13-001 came out (thanks to the independent battery manufacturer), I had to replace the battery in a 2012 for not taking a charge. $13,000 dealer cost in 2012. 2 batteries counting that one were replaced in the south east district.
Honestly, you could try replacing those problem cells, or simply try replacing the whole battery. Hopefully, since you're in USA, she could get the car instead of the moped.
"No Mike you would not be walking 64 miles back. You would be pushing it for 64 miles." Greetings from Wichita as always. (Mike, no more clown cars. Gasoline, diesel, Tesla)
Still safer and faster than a moped! There is another UA-camr, who goes by the name of "Aging Wheels", who I believe lives near or in Oklahoma, that could definitely help you out with your battery issues. His whole channel is practically devoted to fixing up old EV's and breathing new life into them - for cheap!
I have a 2012 mitsubishi Minicab miev, the electric van version of this car, its still on its initial battery pack and does about 60km in range (I'm in New Zealand), has about the same mileage as your miev,
Your mitsi is great! Yeah, if you're able to fix the batteries I'd do it and just drive it...
Had the turtle light come on a couple of times going up a hill and then it turned off so yeah, not sure why it happens though but it hasnt happened since last year now...
They are city cars, not highway cars...good to hear about why the turtle comes on, need to check the cells in my van too then
Damn randy i had to listen to that beep for 3-4 mins 😂 please shut the door next time
You should try pulling it behind a car on a dolly and put it in eco mode and see if you could recharge it that way then it might be cool to use behind an rv or something.
very american way of operating an EV. lol
X-D WEIRDEST TEST DRIVE EVER :D THANKS FOR ROOTING :D
Love this little car ❤

I wonder how great the moped will be in an Oklahoma winter. Grew up there
She doesn’t live in Oklahoma
Your friends expressions are hilarious😂
In your last video, you asked what the B on the shifter is for. It stands for “Brake”, it is used when driving down a steep hill. The regenerative braking is strong in this mode. I guess you won’t need it in OK, lol
Still have it?
You essentially have a Japanese golf cart. You and MWM should take it out on to a local golf course and see the reaction. 😂
Find her a older corolla last forever and can prob find a older one with a few bumps and scratches they are everywhere on market place etc good luck with the search
Definitely watch the video and you will see that I said her mother doesn’t want her having a car now they’re going to give her a moped so buying her another car wouldn’t do me any good except now I would be out the money for two cars
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds they're in Indiana? It's much colder up there right? Wait till the winter comes again or it rains or it snows. We are not in Taiwan or Indonesia...LOL.. Who rides a moped?
I never said they were in Indiana.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds Odd that they want her on a Moped but 🤷♂not any of my business. You'd think it'd be safer for her to drive a car, but I guess their house their rules...
Well the rain will keep you cool while pushing it home.
there's definitely a bad cell or more in the traction battery, or if this is set up like the leaf perhaps someone replaced the battery pack with a junkyard one and didnt code pair it and gave up on it, also get some new wiper blades preferably silicone wiper blades before you damage the windshield.
i also forgot to add: a bad or weak 12v lead acid battery can also cause these malfunctions too.
These battery packs aren't code paired and can be swapped between eachother with minimal fuss in terms of the battery management system or the like. I bought one of these as my first car and then had it rear ended no more than 2 weeks later. Insurance decided to write it off. I kept the car and bought another one from the same seller and replaced the battery as the one I had before had a much better battery compared to the one I bought to replace it. The 12V battery wouldn't be an issue in this case, it's most likely a specific cell(s) being very very weak in comparison to the rest of the pack here.
Except 1 problem its called a motorcycle indorsment and you have to have a car license to get it so she isnt driving jack then
No, you don’t. A moped does not require any license at all where she lives… Trust me I know the situation better than viewers on UA-cam.
@Auto Auction Rebuilds I would check some areas require a driver's license with indorsment not all
Like I said - I already checked. The entire state she lives in does NOT require a license for a moped.
@@AutoAuctionRebuildsNorth Carolina?
Is it really anybody’s business where my kid lives? Kinda creepy really.
hey Randy, I think your videos are out of sequence! We saw the retro Chevy yesterday, and this video you said you hadn’t posted it lately! We’ve never seen the Maserati! Never seen the Mercedes flood car! And I never miss a video!
Hey Randy, have you thought about challenging Monkey Wrench Mike to an E bike race? Could be interesting.
Did you consider pulling the battery and having the bad cells replaced? There is a company that does Tesla batteries, Gruber Motor Company. They may be able to help you. Seems like a perfect car for your daughter if you get that sorted out.
