For the longest time, my reticence was always not wanting to pray in front of or with my wife because she’s seen the worst of me. But just like you said, brother, I finally realized I just need to get over it and I did! Best thing I’ve done in years!

We don't need to worry about whether we sing well, or if our prayers sound good to people around us. When our hearts are right, God honors our prayers. Sometimes God speaks through people who we wouldn't expect. I have seen this at prayer meetings. Amen, Keith!

My repeated problem with prayer has always been a struggle to ask God for anything. I start a petition but then feel ashamed like how dare i ask my life is great and any set backs i have i try to learn from or be humble so i just say thank you even for the bad to be lessons to take. Now being more Catholic i just ask mary to pray for me in general so that helps.

Our Lady is so good to us. Her prayers and blessings are so special. I sometimes think about the first miracle Jesus performed at the wedding after she requested He do something about the lack of wine. His reply of this not being his time meant that Our Heavenly Father had decreed a later time for the beginning of his public ministry with miracles. And, I’m presuming that if this request came from anyone else, he would’ve respectfully declined. Instead, she didn’t even have to wait for an answer and she knew her request would be fulfilled. So her last recorded words were, “Do what he tells you to do.”
Similar to Our Heavenly Father’s words at the transfiguration on the mountain with Jesus where He instructs us to “listen to Him (Jesus).

To echo the same sentiment I was once like you blessed with everything I need but I read somewhere that God wants us to depend on him at all times and that means putting our pride aside cause he knows what’s best for us or pray for somebody to receive blessings. We can never have enough prayers in a day because we are putting God first and everything else next. Hope it helps, God bless.

Ive always been a little reluctant if no somewhat nervous to pray in front of others. Like, its a balance between “dont show off” but “dont hide it”.
I always struggled to pray before meals in front of people but even in my family we often just do it quietly to ourselves.
On the flip side, Im cool with asking others to pray with me or for me.

Reminds me of how the mass, isn't a performance, its the prayer of all prayer. And why it's more appropriate for the priests, πρεσβύτερος-Presbyters, to face east (Matthew 24:27) along with the congregation because they lead us in prayer.

Not to criticize but I know some Protestants that when they pray the say Lord a ton of times and I end up counting how many times they say it. Lord have mercy on me a sinner.

Here is the picture I painted in my head.. it's still dark outside, Keith is pumping out 300lb bench presses and praying or thinking about praying and it hits him like a bolt.. "I gotta get this out to the crew as soon as possible, this is good stuff.." Keith not only have you inspired my recent reversion but you have also inspired me to get into shape. You are truly the gift that keeps on giving! Appreciate you and God bless you and yours!

I think there is a difference in prayers in a way that when we are with others we should pray together as we are asking OUR Father and/or OUR Mother in unity instead of one person is talking and the rest is just there to listen. Not as powerful I think because God loves giving us instructions 😁♥️ for a reason.
And then when we pray alone we pray to unite our will to the Divine will as God already knows what’s in our heart and also what we need so we just have to give him our free will = free willingness to listen and follow every day. This also makes us more accepting of good and bad (for educational/purifying purposes 😅)
And then for self-formation and enlightenment we have the meditative forms of prayer.
And then there is total silence for rest and to recive.
These would be the main forms outside of the Mass at least in the way I understand it.
With protestants the prayer and “worship” have to be more entertaining for them while there is a lot of self-discipline in the Catholic form simply because you’re not about entertaining yourself and making it easier for yourself but to give to God what is God’s.
    🤔

Hi, thank you for postings. I’m looking into Catholicism and I’m also watching The Chosen series. In the Chosen series season 4, episode 2, the Apostles recite the Hashkiveinu prayer before sleeping. Do you know why the hashkiveinu prayer doesn’t show up anywhere in Christian prayers? This brings up other questions on on how many other Jewish prayers are not passed down and why. Tyi & God bless your ministry and all good and faithful pastors 💜✝️💜

Good luck during your inquiry period. I hope to welcome you home someday. What a great ideas reciting some Jewish prayers. Of course we read parts psalms at every Mass in the responsorial psalm. In fact the entire Mass is a prayer. The Nicene creed, Gloria, the Our Father, the penitential act, etc. Also Catholicism has many different prayers for all occasions composed over the centuries in various prayer books available at Catholic bookstores. Some of my favorites are prayers we say before and after confession, the Rosary or the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

    • @GrandmaLynn
      @GrandmaLynn 3 місяці тому +1

@tylerlee549 Interesting point… Are you asking because Catholics pray the “Hail Mary”? Really, when we pray to Mary, we, first honour her by using the biblical words Elizabeth said to her when Mary visited her. Then, we ask Mary, our Mother, to pray for us, just as we would ask our friends and family to pray for us. Just because Jesus didn’t include Mary in the Our Father, doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t ask her to pray for us! I hope this helps you better understand your thoughts. God bless!

There's no mention of the Trinity either in the Our Father or in the New Testament. The theology of all of that had to be worked out by the early Church. Jesus started a Church first and foremost out of which the NT was born. He didn't command anything be written down. Likewise, it is out of the Church that the prayers to Mary were born.

    • @tylerlee549

@@GrandmaLynn Jesus didn’t include satan in this prayer either. Does this mean I should ask satan to pray for me too? See your logic yet?

    • @tylerlee549

@@bretstanley8931 Good, I’m glad you understand that praying to Mary is not biblical. Catholicism teaches that you cannot have the Grace of God without going through Mary.
