I never tried sandpaper on the varnish, but I didn't have a problem with the knife changing the shape. Only took very thin strips. I'll try in on a future conversion if I do oen though, thanks for the support
Nice work mate, next video a mask for it? A couple of things I have used in the past is an old boot or birch bark. There are a couple of videos on UA-cam about how to make a birch bark knife sheath (I did one too a couple of years ago). Exactly the same technique can be used to make a cover for your axe.
Next video is me actually using it and showing you how to get the most out of your tool. But I am planning a sheath video in the future. Thank you for the support
The trick using cloth to increase the angle of the grind is so good, thanks for that
@jacobwood8320 thank you, I wish I could claim it was mine but I got it from a channel called Felix himmler
sandpaper takes the varnish off real easy as well, maintains the shape better, though that's cause I am too aggressive with drawknives.

Also the spine of the knife (if not rounded it's close to a scraper), we used broken glass ...

Thank you for the support, I hope you find the video useful
450g for a hatchet seems right to me. And as presented here, many users having a precision problem anyway
It's nice don't get me wrong, but once modified it's lost a bit of weight. Not a huge amount more, just another 100g or so for a little extra
