Applying Mica Powder Directly onto Spray Painted Cup with Makeup Brush -- Craft Haven Project 7

  • Waaay back, I opened a craft box from Craft Haven, and based on the projects in that box, I listed eight different ideas for future videos then asked viewers to vote (here is that video: • Craft Haven Craft Box ... ). One of the most popular was project #7: using a fluffy makeup brush to apply mica powder directly onto a just-spray-painted tumbler. So here -- at long last -- is that particular video. I tried this once already and failed (here's that video: • ALE Tiny Tipsy Tumbler... ), so this time, I decided to wait a few minutes after spray painting, until the paint was tacky but not really wet, and the results came out MUCH better. The spray paint gods still laughed at me...

    I love Swirls! Mostly swirls of color, but really any swirls at all - I think they add a beauty and grace to everything. So after I started making soap a few years ago, and needing some sort of biz name that didn't sound like everyone else's version of suds-r-us, I decided on Luxinda Swirl. Luxinda is a twist on my real name, and I quickly started putting swirls of color in all of my handmade soaps.
    Now I'm branching out a bit, and I want to keep adding swirls to everything I do!

    I'm new to resin art and have been wanting to try working with tumblers. I just came across your channel and love everything I've seen so far! I have so many ideas in my mind of things to do for tumblers, just need to get up the courage to try these ideas.

    Another great video and beautiful cup. I was really impressed by your placing vinyl on such a difficult cup shape.

    Amazing. What kind of sandpaper do u use to prep the cup?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  3 роки тому

      Good question - I bought a 4-pack of sanding sponges or sanding blocks from Walmart, containing 2 fine grit and 2 coarser grit. I use the coarser ones for cup prepping. The 4-pack is Gator brand, but looking at the package, it doesn't really give a grit number, just fine and coarse. I don't think it matters too much for cup prepping, but I go with coarser just because none of the sanding you're doing will show, and if you use a really fine grit, that won't really do much to rough up the surface of the cup, which is the reason for sanding it. Hope this helps a little.

    I use the index fingers from Amazon there 100 per bag suggestion instead of glove🌻

      Thanks! Do you mean what I'm holding when I brush on the mica? That's just a PVC pipe "arm" from the tumbler turner I use. It comes with the turner and is detachable: amzn.to/3xEuJYi

    Where did you get that tumbler at? I have never seen one like that

      It was from a case of the discontinued “twist” style I got from The Stainless Depot a couple years ago. My guess is they were discontinued because the twist part is very difficult to apply decals, vinyl, and waterslides onto. But that’s just a guess.😊

    Can you do this with the tac it method

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, absolutely!! In fact, I did that in this video: ua-cam.com/video/iQ7nlbnHdLk/v-deo.html

    Of course another beautiful cup, and of course I have another question. Would doing the tack it method give the same result? Just curious as to why burnish on tacky paint. By the way, I love when you experiment.

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  3 роки тому

      Thank you! It would probably work great with the tack-it method, but this saves the steps of using the tacky glue after doing the spray painting. This way you jump straight from spray paint to mica. You can also go straight from spray paint to glitter without needing tacky glue or mod podge or epoxy to stick the glitter on with.

      @@Luxinda Thanks! I knew you’d give me a meaningful answer. Gonna try this method.

    You know really need to wear mask for these mica powders and fine glitters. Protect airways nose throat and probably eyes.
