I think it's very possible that we encounter one or more of the remaining ascians. With their rejoining missions done, they're going to be a part of the world in one way or another. Hopefully they'll be more helpful than adversarial, it feels like that would have a lot of great possibilities going forward.
I'm going out on a limb that Solution 9 is, like you said, a remnant of another shard that found out a way to cross the rift and ride out a rejoining. My prediction is that the population realized that they couldn't cross the rift with their bodies intact (or because of the huge number of survivors) they have effectively digitized their population and placed them into a "matrix" of sorts inside of a giant artificial aetherial sea.
Emet-Selch did specifically pluralize "golden cities" so maybe solution 8 tried to come over without storing their souls and just the city made the trip? I'm also holding a thread of hope that a jaunt to Meracydia could be a late expansion surprise though they always hold back the craziest zones annd if they showed us S9, things are going to get weird.
All I know is, the first thing I am doing on release is watching a ton of cutscenes from previous content with the new graphics. If they upgraded him, Zenos should look interesting.
I think that the people of Tuliyollal are directly descended from the people of Solution 9. I don't think it's a coincidence that some of the logograms we see in the sci-fi-looking race look similar to what we see in the carvings in Tuliyollal's architecture.
I think that's the significance of the 'golden city' in the leadership trial that the contestants are doing. I think everyone who becomes leader learns of the full truth of their peoples' ancestry.
That's also probably why one location is called "Heritage Found"; because it's literally some excavation or something where they uncovered all this tech from the Solution 9 people.

What I want as a recent import from WoW to FFXIV, I want the raid to have something to do with the story. Raids in WoW were the pinnacles of the story, where the big baddie needed to be beat. I was kind of bummed playing endwalker to find that Pandaemonium was essentially a side story, a good side story but still on the side. I want the raid to matter to the story. WoW had a raid finder mode for casual players so everyone could enjoy the story of the raid.
Ah speculation.... my speculation is always very very wrong lol. I guess EW I somewhat got things correct, but not in the way I imagined.... that being said.... I think this is what we will be getting in the New World..
First off, I don't think anything major will really happen until we go north into Xak Tural. I think the first half in Yak Tural will be setting the stage.... explaining characters.... ect.... and then things will drastically shift. From the trailer, I think Solution Nine or whoever is attacking Tulyo will come in after we the Rite of Leadership. Which is why we will go north. As we go in, we will start to encounter the people of the north, which will be drastically different. We start learning more about them. possibly running into new character we team up with, eventually leading us to Solution Nine and why these people are possibly not ageing ect. Which I then think will link back to the Fountain of Youth, which will cause us to go east to find the Fountain of Youth.
Or they are AI or the girl we run into is a Super Computer AI who is running the city and it will lead us to either another Shard or Planet as the last zone, or we will got into Cyber Space world. And I think we will find out the woman is related to Metione and is actually either an echo, copy or a descendent of one of the Metione Sisters.
With 7.X series, it is kinda hard to see what we will get. We don't know exactly how much will be covered in the base game and where it will lead with it being a new story arc. I personally hope we end up losing and we think Eorzea is going to get invaded and we set up a blockade with the Grand Companies, but then we are tricked and the invasion force goes west instead of east and invades Hingashi and the Far East. Forcing Hingashi to finally ask for help from Doma and others. And then it will lead us into Higashi, the rest of north Othard and maybe some of Ilsabard. And finally lead us south to Meracydia and southern Othard and maybe some of Ilsabard.
I hope the next new baddie will be more fleshed out and less incompetent. Maybe the "inhabitants of Solution Nine" are them, since they butcher civilians on screen, I mean, Garleans were cool, but, Stormblood make them look so Disney levels of Incompetent and it was just spiked up in the later content one couldn't take them seriously as a threat ...
I m kinda thinking that with the City, we might have access just to part of it, being in like a "safe zone" while the rest is under occupation of that military, or, well, there are multiple places and Solution Nine is just one of them, like, in some of the scenes and screens we see fully armed military bases so yeh this might be just one part of a wider area, like Dravania was. Dont wanna go onto the thing that they are just "robots" with "souls" etc. or some AI, no, just no, dont want that, I had enough Nier for a lifetime
