More acute dialysis videos please! I'm seriously considering this field. Would love to hear some examples of difficult situations and how you overcame them when first learning the job. Unstable patients and interventions to stabilize them. Troubleshooting machines, alarms etc.
Hello, ive seen this comment been 2 years. Im a new nurse, i just wanna have some idea hows acute dialysis nurse. Which one makes good money, chronic or acute?
After 4-6 moths you will finally know what you’re doing in Dialysis. After that it’s all repetitive. I stood there one day, working with a patient and using the machine and realized that “this is all I’m going to be doing here” and I decided I wanted to do more, much more, so I left.
Hi, great video. I'm considering dialysis nursing and this video was really informative. When you started, did you choose whether you wanted acute or chronic or were you placed due to need?
Hi! Just started as an acute dialysis nurse. I was told originally that I would be working 4 10 hours shifts that could be longer if needed. I’m finding out now that those shifts can be as long as 20+ hours. How often are you working shifts longer than 20 hours? It’s scary to think about!
I’m not going to lie to you, most times will probably be longer. Only 20+ if you get called in though. Once you get familiar more with what you’re doing you will be able to go in do your treatments and be close to leaving at 10-12 hours.
@@nurselopez5885 okay I was expecting maybe 12 hour shifts and even up to 16 wouldn’t bother me! Just the 20+ sounded scary! But if it’s not all the time I feel better. Thanks so much!
Other than giving antibiotics, or fluids etc if needed or checking Bp, What do you as the nurse do while in the room waiting for the dialysis to finish? 4 hours seems like a long time.
Oh wooooww I’m a “student nurse” in dialysis and I honestly love it. I graduate in August. I can’t wait. I thought about making a UA-cam also to show what I do at work but I’m too busy right now because my program is accelerated lol glad you’re doing it tho! Maybe one day in the future we can collab! ❤️
@@nurselopez5885 idk why I’m just now seeing this. So sorry but I’m in acutes right now in my hometown. I am going to a chronic clinic in July to get some experience until I graduate nursing school late august. Are you also trained in CVVH and PD? Or are you just doing HD right now?
@@nurselopez5885 no I love acutes. I have to go to the chronic clinic because FMC is taking over the contract DaVita currently has in our hospital system. They bought it out back in March. So we’re all joining FMC and since I applied to DaVita as a “student nurse” (same as a tech right now) I don’t have the certification that is required for techs to work in acutes. Since I’m graduating in august FMC put me in a clinic to bypass having to take the tech exam since I’ll take my NCLEX in September. It would’ve been a waste to pay the tech certification fee AND the NCLEX fee like a month later.
@@tamayamaya7362 oh okay makes sense well even though you love acute, you may love chronic also. I hear better things about it compared to acute schedule and stuff.
@@hehehehfun4938 I'm looking at Acutes Acutes right now lol. I'm at chronics and just hate how I'm literally a charge nurse, social worker, dietician, case manager, clinical manager, biomed, and Doctor all into one. Oh, and a tech. We are short most of the times so not only do I have 12 patients but I also got to take a whole bay, too!
@@andrewcryptomillionaire9695 100%! I transferred from a 24 chair clinic to 16 chairs. I literally running around like my head is cut off. It is extremely crazy and unsafe. I spoke to my acute manager and she said she does not miss chronic at all but acute has on call though...I am only doing acute as PRN because I am switching to Cardiac ICU weekend package. Off 4 days a week so that's why I picked up the acute PRN job

Will definitely try to do that !

great video, deserves more views for sure, just got hired as an RN in acutes, thanks for the insight.
Thank you, I hope you like it !
Hi, great video. I'm considering dialysis nursing and this video was really informative. When you started, did you choose whether you wanted acute or chronic or were you placed due to need?
It just depends on the position you apply for, I applied for acute before I even knew what either really was.

It’s kinda funny because I think we may be working together? You’re a New hire for my facility I believe.
@@aubrieoliveri976 it won’t always be that long so try not to think about that to much.

Acute Dialysis RN here too from DaVita. Great Vid.

Hey hun quick question do you also do PD dialysis in acute setting
Not at my facility. I think some locations they are starting to cross train then too though.
I Love your informatiom what are the requirements to be come a dialysis nurse?
Be a RN and make them like you in the interview and be interested in it. Not really any requirements otherwise though.

Great video, I'm assuming you are an RN? If so what would a Lvn do if even hired
I am a RN, actually not sure if they hire LVN’s.
