    Thank you, David. Your description of the band description was very interesting.

    I saw this at the D.C. show as well. I really like that you give the background of the company as well in your reviews. I have always been fascinated with history, and when there are brands I like, I try to learn as much about them as possible. Thanks for a great review and little history lesson.

    I'm currently emailing back and forth with Syd; unknown to me (as a pen enthusiast) he's a family friend and former business associate of my father's. Appreciate this review and thought it was interesting, as Syd and I are talking shop. This was very formative as we talk about whether my next move should be a Wahl-Eversharp Decoband or the Visconti Homo Sapiens (the decision I had made before reaching out).

    That is one beauty of a fountain pen! I have in my collection an old Wahl-Eversharp with the rosewood finish, and I think it is beautiful. Of course, it is no where near as large and luxurious as this one! I also like the filling mechanism. Cartidges and converters are easy to use, but half the fun of filling the pen is getting to use a filling mechanism. When you mentioned the price, though, I nearly keeled over! I also question the choice the maker made on the box. I'd not know what to do with it, either. Seems like a stunning way to present the pen, but after you take the pen out, what good is it?

  • @loganbabcock6179
    @loganbabcock6179 7 років тому

    The filling mechanism is almost identical to some of the classic Sheaffers. More or less the Cadet line. They had a cylinder you pull up, then push down, which compresses the sac inside, then it sucks up the ink. Just the hole on the Sheaffer is on the side and isn't needed to be held. Honestly, they probably put that hole in it to not do any patent infringement. Either way, fascinating pen. Good to see they're paying homage to their old selves with that gorgeous ebonite.

    That is the first size 8 nib I've ever seen. Pen is very unique and definitely worth the money.

    I picked up a Rosewood Decoband at the Ohio Pen Show. I don't get more (if as much) line variation with the Super Flex nib than you show with the Gold Flex. I wish the nib was finer to provide more line variation and to accommodate my smaller handwriting. More nib options would be nice - perhaps in time. I was a little concerned about weight and size, but so far it's not a pen that I've used for long writing sessions. Beautiful pen and box and the filling system is unusual and fun. I'll have to try the Wahlberry ink as I like the Everberry mine came with. Thanks, David.

    I love the brightly colored feed! I know this is an ebonite feed, but I keep thinking that with all the plastic feeds out there, why aren't companies doing differently colored feeds on their pens. This illustrates how good it can look. (Sorry about the chipping, that would be disappointing.) It's out of my price range, but I very much enjoyed the review.

    • @chrislj2890
      @chrislj2890 8 років тому

      I've thought about the feed colors also, but maybe they would end up discoloring from some inks.

      I like the clear feed on the Platinum Cool that changes to the color of the ink you use.

    Hi David, Thank you for your detail review. I had to ask it because when I saw your view & compare it with Matt's video review, I can see that the color of rose-wood seems to be bit different. In you video it was more close to vintage color (lighter & clear distinguishable pattern) but in Matt's video it seems very dark. So wanted to check with you which color is closer to actual pattern.
    Thank You.

      I believe the pens are very close to being the same...it's just the different lighting we use. My intro and measurement shots are using indirect sunlight rather than studio lights. I think my intro shots show the pen to be slightly brighter than normal. Hope that helps.

    When I saw the red feed, I've immediately think about the Louboutin's high-heels ! I like it, this is very unique. Does the coating affect the way the feed works ? In a good or a bad way.

    Mystery solved! Thank you - I was wondering why some Wahl pens shared similar design elements with ASC pens and even some Wahl celluloid pens use the special cellophane clamshell case. Manu is the common link!

    Hi David, thank you for your reviews, I really enjoy them. I especially value the extra information you provide, like some company background and history and the ink comparisons. The Wahl Eversharp Decoband looks fantastic, just too big for me. I'll just have to wait until they think of a Wahl Eversharp Decoband mini ... :-)

    Another issue I have (despite the ones you gave) with these luxurious boxes, is : how much does it represent in the total cost of the pen ? (I don't know if it's understandable ??) You're right, if at least, it could be convertible in some ways into a larger kind-of-display-storage-multiple-pens-and-ink-bottles,, this would be great ; but I wish the company would gave the choice.

    Same feeling here with the idea of the pen case, strongly suggest All pen makers make them either more practical or a useful as a pen chest, such a waste of materials, I think if they start making some pen trays which can be fit into the pen case would be lovely. As for the pen, knew it for quite long time, can't make decisions here.... that feed... reminds me of my Visconti with white feed, dare I ink it.....

    Just a note that my Decoband did not come with a suitcase box. They might come in a more minimal "floating" packaging like what is coming with the Armando Simoni pens. I also did not get a bottle of ink.

    I'm not sure about this pen. Without a good nib and feed it would be just an overpriced Ranga. The paint on the feed cracking is just disappointing at this price point. But I am glad you are enjoying it.

    How do you prime the feed?

    • @FigbootonPens
      @FigbootonPens  5 років тому

      You would extend the tube, hold your finger over the hole at the back of the barrel and depress the tube SLOWLY until you can see ink in the feed, then take your finger off the hole an the tube will depress all the way without expelling additional ink.

      margessw I'm pretty sure the flag in the background relates to the origin/location of the pen company (Wahl-Eversharp is American, there was a German flag in a Pelikan review)

    Nice pen but the red finish on the nib is too fragile and comes off too easy. The box is obscene and wasteful. The price could be lowered with a lesser box. What do you do with it???, far to nice to throw out, impractical.
    Best wishes to all pen people.
