- Defensive highlights of the peek-a-boo style originally created by Cus D'Amato.
Floyd Patterson - Was an American professional boxer who held the undisputed world heavyweight championship. At the age of 21, he became the youngest boxer to win the world heavyweight title, and was also the first heavyweight to regain the title after losing it. As an amateur he won a gold medal at the 1952 Olympics in the middleweight division.
Jose Torres - Was a Puerto Rican professional boxer. As an amateur boxer, he won a silver medal in the junior middleweight at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. In 1965, he defeated Willie Pastrano to win the WBC and WBA light heavyweight championships. Torres trained with the legendary boxing trainer Cus D'Amato. In 1997, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Mike Tyson - Is an American former professional boxer. He held the undisputed world heavyweight championship and holds the record as the youngest boxer to win the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles at 20 years, 4 months, and 22 days old.

Torres' style was fundamentally efficient, Patterson's style was beautiful to watch, Tyson's style was fear-inducing

I think the Patterson style is the early stage of peekaboo. Then they perfected it with Tyson. If you watch most of the Patterson fights available on youtube, he never used those shifting angles like Mike did. Amazing concept evolution like every technique has to.
The reason why Patterson never used those angles because Tyson based his style off of Jack Dempsey.
@@antoniomosley9410 I’m not even sure Dempsey utilized angles as well as Tyson did.
@@mnavo86 From what I've seen Dempsey did use them but do to the quality of the footage it's hard to tell. Also Tyson based his style off of other old school fighters surprisingly.
@@antoniomosley9410 Yeah, Cus had a huge library of old fights records and he and Tyson used to watch and learn from those fighters. Mike was really his masterpiece. I truly believe that if Cus was there while he was the champion, he would be unstoppable. But it isn't really matter now
Tyson perfected the style.
I don't think so. Torres is more smoother, subtle and polished. Most Tyson's opponents just simply don't know how to fight.

Not really all of them have their own interpretation of the peekaboo style depending on their physical traits, I wouldn’t say one does it better than the other just all three do it very well
Torres is the textbook, Patterson and Tyson are the transcendentals.
yea. perfectly put. i think patterson was the best but had no chin, which made him the lesser of the three.

It seems to me that Torres smothered and parried a bit more than Tyson and Patterson; a bit less elusive but more... defensive? Quite interesting to see those little differences. Thanks for this vid!

You would be correct. Tyson did a 1000 squats a day to give him the anterior pelvic floor and leg drive to duck, move and slip punches in this style. Now he can barely bend over. He actually broke his anterior pelvic bone (which is part of the lower spinal column) in the late 90s and couldn't weave as low as he did earlier.

It's no less beautiful than an exhibit in the national art museum. Please make more videos on PeekABoo. Cus really made a special contribution to martial arts. This style is meant for talented athletes with explosive power. You don't want to trying this if you are built like Floyd Mayweather.
Hanza, are you familiar with the Philly Shell? Some noteable practitioners are Bennie Brisoe, Dwight Qawi, Joe Frazier, and Simon Brown. Qawi and Frazier represent opposite ends of the shell, where Frazier shifted his weight forwards, often moving his head past his feet, while Qawi, at LHW, would keep most of his weight on the back foot. It's kind of interesting to see how Qawi looked more like Briscoe and Frazier when he moved to cruiserweight and lost a lot of foot mobility.

oh man...that reminds me of Foreman's fight against Frazier. Sure, Frazier's style wasn't exactly Peek-A-Boo, but the pressure and the head movement couldn't too different
@@ArchingRock the pressure is super different. Tyson's defense was impregnamble, fraizer's was not. Tyson would find openings that fraizer could not. and Tyson's offense would allow him to exploit these openings, without getting hit. he was a master, that's why we're still talking about him, even though his career was so so short.
@@gcg8187 now that you mention it, Cus' philosophy is "hit without getting hit", and he would apply this to his fighters, including Tyson himself. Joe Frazier would use the cross-guard in order to protect himself from punches, possibly as a "fail safe" if his head movement doesn't work. Of course, that would be a terrible style to fight Foreman, whose power is something else, and that's just one of the things about him...
