FYI --- Bokashi is used to inoculate your compost with more beneficial microorganisms that simple help to break down the compost even more making nutrients more readily available to the plants. Oh John I am so proud you have a girl friend. I have been married for 35 yrs and love being in his presence. Neither of us work anymore so we are home together 24/7. I wouldn't have it any other way.

G'Maw's Garden I have been using the Bokashi method for about a year now and I absolutely love the results. I put it in my garden and in my compost piles. I am just amazed at how it heats up the pile. The earthworms love it!

Man, you have videos and information on so many things. I search for information on aeroponic towers one day and there you are. Next day- growing algae. Today- composting. That's awesome lol. You've taught me a lot and I appreciate it!

I'm excited for this upcoming outdoor pot video. I was installing a garden bed yesterday and looked over my fence, my neighbors got like 7 small plants in their backyard. That gave me a chuckle. I told a coworker and she was like, "Maybe you can trade some squash."

I wouldn't say "more important"... Gardening is your passion and one of your life's purposes, so your significant other should be supportive of it and the things you love and make you happy. Support her in the things she loves and feels passionate about too, but don't worry too much about "losing" her. If she's the right one for you she won't go anywhere :)

I used the Eco Wood Treatment on 2 new beds this weekend! Built all out of recycled wood, including old cedar fence boards I tore down. Hope it works well, but looks good! Keep up the good work. Good luck with the new lady!

Insect Frass tea is the BEST organic insecticide on the market.. My leaves get sticky like those yellow fly traps and the small insects just stick and die on them.. it's the weirdest thing, but it works!

Rather than using Dr Bronners soap or any soap for that matter, I would recommend opting for something natural like yucca extract. It breaks the surface tension much more efficiently and is far less toxic.

Hi John! I love your videos and have some compost going, EM1 done -however. I wanted to make some Bokashi and wanted to know if theres a substitute I can use instead of ceramic powder that can help my 25lbs of wheatbran come together for the fermenting process? Will appreciate your feedback. Thank you!

Thank you for the helpful videos. May I ask about possibility of using oil and other fats for composting. I couldn't find direct answer anywhere. For example, you have a bottle of olive oil with some infuse you don't like. Can you poor it out in the soil or in composting mixture, or it is not recommended for some reasons? I would appreciate any clarification on this question.

Where is the part about Bokashi?

  • @AlbertaUrbanGarden
    @AlbertaUrbanGarden 10 років тому +1

I would have to disagree with the comments you made about Bokashi Compost for a number of reasons. I agree and practice both thermal and vermi compost the Bokashi compost process has some issues that are either irreverent or possibly harmful.
First off the beneficial microbes in your soil are all aerobic meaning they need oxygen to work optimally. The Bokashi method excludes oxygen and breeds bacteria that are non-beneficial once introduced to the garden. There was also a study done on measuring the content of the liquid produced. if you follow the dilution recommendation of the system your basically watering and have diluted out anything of value. if you use the liquid directly there is not a whole lot in there that's available or useful.
the inoculation sold is extremely hard to keep alive. minor changes in temperature can render the entire package dead and non-functional. I would venture to say between transport, the store and your house at one point it has been killed.
the last part of my response is space restriction. If your in an apartment there are still organic wastes that need to come out of the system. If you want to compost in small spaces and put the resulting material to good use in your plants get some composting worms. They not only provide lots of beneficial bacteria but plant growth hormones.

    Problem ???
Happy to buy a set of Composteur de cuisine Bokashi Organico avec
    activateur.
With Bokashi barrels for the first time the second time, according to
youtube and the instructions of the process of composting.
14 days later, did not deliberately pay attention to the above does not
have long white mold, nor the kitchen decomposition, to see every piece of food
are clear that the original peel, no decomposition, then digging the ground to
the kitchen to put the kitchen cover On the soil will think that organic
    fertilizer.
The third time with the same process, and then look at the brochure .14
days past no white mold ???. Wait until 14 days no white mold, kitchen no
decomposition ... ... want to succeed and then use some time, Hope to
successfully fermented, to see the long white mold. Almost 60 days. Quite
stunned, those kitchen no complete decomposition,
(60 days before the pods, peel, corn cob and kitchen), the taste is not
unpleasant, but there is no white mold has been more than 60 days no, no no
Covered with white mold, but this time a bit like all the kitchen are
marinated salty dishes, the color has been mostly brown.
I see model advertising UA-cam very easy, very easy
Not 14 days to complete the fermentation - very disappointed,
    environmental protection and cheated feeling.
Very ... ... sorry .. Bokashi Organico method lie it
    Point solution

I just wanted to make a comment on diatomaceous earth. Diatomaceous earth is not selective meaning it kills all insects including the beneficial insects such as bees, ladybugs, green lacewings, all beneficial insects as well as bad insects.
I do use diatomaceous earth but I use it very sparingly now but I'm really that it kills every type of insect. I put it in my animals food (use only food grade diatomaceous earth), I put it in chickens nest box. Put it in the water I use to bathe my pets. When it dries it will help with fleas. The water I pour on fire ant mounds.
It is a powdery substance so, use a mask when handling it. Humans can also use diatomaceous earth in their food. Just do your research before using.
