This is why I got into wood working. I was a classic car auto body guy and I'm bored now so I'm doing shaker style furniture now with auto body glass finishes. .. as I'm getting older this is where I want to be 👍🏻
I do like the spray gun idea, seems so easy but having to constantly refill it in the middle of spraying would be a pain. looks like it does create a lot of overspray as well?
The most important details are preparing the surface well. Sanded smooth and clean of dust. Next, when you are spraying on a dye you will need to use a dry paint brush or a rag to blend the stain color evenly. Often when spraying on a color, it is easy to overlap spray pattens and get uneven color distribution. Use the a brush or rag to “move” the dye around to get an even color coat.
Great Video. I have Kitchen Table that has a Black stain on top of Poplar. The finish is shot after 5 yrs and 3 Sons. What grit should I start with and finish with? Also, Any Black stain u recommend for the finish? Thank you
I believe that you are referring to the portion of the video at minute 0:41 - 0:55, where the finisher removes a small blemish from the surface of the table, using a blue shop towel. He removes the blemish while the surface is still wet, then adds a small amount of finish from the sprayer which allows the touch-up to blend seamlessly into the top coat.
Really well done video. I have a question from someone starting a furniture shop Im building a cherry table very similar to the one shown here. What would you price that table at, i know markets are different but im thinking of shooting for 550 for a hall table like that. What are your thoughts?
Very well explainend. Woordworker myself and a few years of spraypainting experience. This graco painter I would wanna use for painting the house and hopefully indoors to. How long does a batterycharge last?
The battery charge is generous.I would say at least 2 pot loads worth. Probably more if you are spraying this low velocity stuff. I spray regular acrylics. YOu should have the spare battery on charge ready to go when one goes flat.
Will you use the same sprayer for your staining and clear coat or do you have a separate sprayer for the staining and one for the clear coat? And what type of clear coat are you using.
gray audenart It is good practice to use a different gun for clearcoats. No matter how well you clean a gun out they always seem to let loose a chunk of dark shit when you least expect it. especially on lighter shades.
do you think the pro finish is as good as an hvlp ? cannot decide which system to buy, is the pro finish not heavy ? looking to spray doors, trim, kitchen cabinets, radiators, other small items instead of running small quantities through my graco airless, any advice appreciated, cheers
They have an electric gun similar to this one, i think if you going to use it for doors and trim you should consider getting the electric one for longer lasting, without worrying about lack of power
Hi Carlos, when applying the stain with the sprayer as done in the video, there is a bit of hand wiping that goes on as well. That is an opportunity to add more color to one area or remove some of the stain.
I would not. You would want st least a coat of sealer of the first layer of stain to protect the rest of the stain from becoming heavily saturated with dust. Sand 180-220 Stain Seal Sand ( heavy sand and rub through where you would like ). Seal. Sand. Top coat
nice video i like the spray gun... and to the other guy with the comment of you need a booth etc... you can have the top of the line of tools but you dont have the skills you don't have shit. you have skill keep spraying
Holla! Have you heard the talk about - Walsan Ultimate Woodworkers Dream (do a google search)? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my brother in law made a great project from the plans.
Clearly, this guy is not a finisher. Non of his equipments are professional equipments, he doesn't have a spray booth, its in a garage. Painters need to leave wood finishing to finishers.
Kobi Asante Why do you think a spray booth is required for water borne stain and clearcoat? Maybe you should leave comments for only when you know what you are talking about. I don't care where people paint if the job turns out satisfactory to the end user.
nosubproductions The title says "Applying Stain like a Pro." A professional Furniture Finisher would never spray furniture in that way. The United State Ministry of Labour recommends spray booth no matter what. Here is the link below. Also, the spray gun he's using is not for furniture. its more for walls. There are better spray gun that an armature can use and would yield better results. Don't title your video professional and go about it like you're not. The fact is, he's just a painter. Not a finisher and it shows. www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.show_document?p_table=INTERPRETATIONS&p_id=27172
If you're an armature wanting to do your own furniture, please search on You Tube for a good professional wood finisher, not from a painter. There's a huge difference between the two. One does walls and knows about wall paint. A finisher knows furniture finishing. This video is nice because it was done by professionals but that's where it ends.
+Kobi Asante Sir, If you are as experienced as you say, then why are you wasting your time watching this video and debating the distinction between painter and finisher. I carry three trade licenses myself. Some people are good at something and continue to learn. You waste your time commenting on stupid things.

Lets say I need to spray multiple coats of water based poly, with 2 hrs drying time between coats. Do I have to clean the gun after every single coat?

That spot on the right top of the desk there is still exist.

So easy to do the secret on the fine finish in varnishing of wood is the sand paper

wow so much over spray. nice job considering the volume of paint being dumped on the project.
Thanks for posting, this is something I can do and afford to buy.
How about sanding after stain for worn wood finish ? is that ok to do ? i mean u sand it stain in some places to get wornwood colors

Holla! Have you heard the talk about - Walsan Ultimate Woodworkers Dream (do a google search)? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my brother in law made a great project from the plans.
I am the one eyed finisher

:Apply Stain Like a Pro: TrueCoat Pro Fine Finish Sprayer:
Except you didn't apply the stain with the sprayer...you applied the clear coat with it...

So you think the majority of people watching have spray booths and pro gear?
