    I wonder why they just sort of trailed off with his catchphrase, people used to respond with "Hi dr. Nick" all the time.
    It would be kind of interesting if they could give Dr Nick and Dr Hibbert their own episode. Since Dr. Hibbert seems to have taken on Dr Nick's roll, in lampooning the American Financial medical system; Dr Nick could take on a new role of being greatly incompetent, but actually caring how the patients heal from a life changing illness.

  • @battybuddy
    @battybuddy 5 років тому +8

    "I can prescribe ANYTHING you want, baby..."
    I do agree with you on Dr. Nick losing out to Hibbert, but I also think Nick's whole thing being a catchphrase and the fact that he's a cheap gamble meant that a little of him went a long way, although I do think that HOMR thing where Moe just becomes a surgeon out of nowhere could have been funnier if it went anywhere beyond just having Moe be a surgeon for the one gag.
    They could have easily had Dr. Nick do the same thing and all that would have been really different would have been the "That's right, I'm a surgeon" business card joke.
    It would have been a lot better had Hibbert remained competent with the usual thing where he laughs at inappropriate moments.

    I do really like the joke of his most prestigious title being malpractice defendant. It's a quick, dumb, hilarious visual gag and it's the sort of thing that modern Simpsons tends to get wrong. Just slap it in there, then DELIVER JOKES AROUND IT.

    I stopped watching the Simpson around the mid 2000s and forgot he died in the movie. I legitimately got a little sad until you showed that he came back.
    Despite all his technical crimes against humanity, there is a lot to he said about a character who continues to try despite being clearly out of their league.

    Something that helps with Dr. Nick is he comes off as more crazy than malicious. He doesn't mean any harm, he's just incompetent but despite this people keep going to him over and over again. It's a textbook example of failing upwards, and he just keeps going with it because he enjoys being a doctor, even if he's terrible at it.

    I loved this video; I just started watching The Simpsons last year but Nick quickly became my favorite character from the show and one of my favorite characters, period. I like that he’s not given much of a background to go by, and like you said, not EVERY character needs to be fleshed out. It’s simply more fun for him to just be a recurring character that is consistently hilarious rather than someone given a lot of thought to. I’m usually drawn to characters that have or insinuate a lot of background, so it’s refreshing for me to like Nick, who’s never been super serious in a dramatic way, only in an occasionally morbid one. Thank you for the great video.
