hi everyone thanks for watching, someday i'll review all the 2006 third-person gangster games based on beloved licenses that all came to exist as a response to both the success of Grand Theft Auto and licensed games in the early-to-mid 2000s - here's a few i've looked at so far: Scarface: ua-cam.com/video/9UqfjeHoDFQ/v-deo.html Miami Vice: ua-cam.com/video/0lKoWaalADY/v-deo.html The Sopranos: ua-cam.com/video/p0BXKDc1st0/v-deo.html The Godfather: ua-cam.com/video/a21D9NmEyEc/v-deo.html
What about the Warriors? That game was probably the best (excuted) mid-2000 licensed movie game there is and is actually made by the creators of Grand Theft Auto.
This and the Scarface game were my secret ps2 gems. Me and my friends played here in Brazil without even understanding the language, but oh boy! we had fun
This was the oddest choice of a movie to make a game out of. A dialogue heavy movie about failed heist gets turned into a game. I remember when I was first saw this sitting on the shelf at my local Family Video. I couldn’t believe it and I had to rent to it.

@@that_deadeyegamer7920 How though? You can't make the game before being sure that you have their likenesses. No, I imagine Tarantino (At the time) probably thought that games were mindless horseshit and refused to lend his likeness. @@writershard5065 yes you can? Lmao. Look at all the shitty licensed movie games, they rarely use the likeness of the actors. Hell Bad Boys: Miami Takedown couldn't even use the premise of the movie for a campaign for their game, nor get Will Smith or Martian Lawrence to do voices.
I remember when the Mission: Impossible N64 game came out and Ethan Hunt looked like a bland cross between Tom Cruise and Ben Affleck. That game was probably the first instance of where we had the technology to make the character look like the actor, but the studio couldn't afford the rights to the actor's likeness. It was a big joke back then, but now we just take it for granted that like, Laurie Strode in Dead by Daylight looks nothing like Jamie Lee Curtis. My understanding is that this goes back to George McFly in Back to the Future II. They replaced Crispin Glover with another actor, then put makeup on him so he'd look like Crispin Glover, and Glover sued them for stealing his face and not paying him. The whole legal story is more complicated than that, but I think that was the turning point where entertainment companies started to be more cautious about using likenesses without permission.

Yes I do see your point, but the banning of this game is no surprise in Australia. Australia has shown a history of being very strict on video games treating them differently to movies. This is because the logic is that there is a difference to watching the film and playing the video game. In the film you are witnessing a character chopping off a guys ear off, while in the game you are actively doing it. It's really not that weird and this sort of thing would continue in Australia, especially with games like Syndicate (2012) and Soldier of Fortune: Payback (the third game in the series) that were banned for their violence. The classification board in Australia has also shown to be very rigid on the way drug use is portrayed in video games, with the most recent case being the final cut of Disco Elysium, though the game would eventually receive an R-Rating after the decision was appealed.

Just found this game at one of my local game stores for the PS2 and I can't wait to try it out! I watched this video when you originally posted it and I rewatched it as a refresher for what I'm about to get myself into! Thanks for the great content always!
So someone wanted to take Reservoir Dogs, a movie that takes place in very few locations and is dialogue focused, and turned it into am open world action game? I don't know how you could miss the point harder. Given a few more years, it could have easily transitioned into a Telltale game.
This game was actually my exposure to this movie, much like Rockstars The Warriors was to the 1979 classic. That said, The Warriors was infinitely better than this. Most of the cast returned, they added a whole plot leading up to the meeting aswell as an entire backstory for the characters, and you also get to play through the movie in the last quarter of the game! Most Levels were open ended so it encouraged exploration to find dealers and complete side objectives. You got the Warriors own hangout and a portion of Coney to explore and do side objectives in to earn new abilities in combat. The 2 player mode works like a dream and I can't tell you how many sleepless nights me and my brother had playing the Rumble mode on it. You even get a 2.5D beat em up game after beating the story that feels like a huge tribute to games like Double Dragon and Final fight. Id love to see you talk about this one soon!
I know I'm a bit lit to the game but I remember when this game released and it was such a hassle for me to actually get. I had to drive to 3 city's around me and no one was carrying a single copy. I stopped at an independent shop on my way home and couldn't spend my 20 dollars quicker. Then I played the game. The looking was better than the playing.
Michael Madsen agreed to voice his character in the game because the advance check cleared. I think he's a great actor, but he doesn't seem to turn anything down as long as long as the project doesn't mess with his plans for the weekend.
The Warriors is by far the best one. To really capture the before and after, really brought you back into why the movie was so well received. Never forget, possibly one the most things related to movie, really set the path for creativity, brother/sister hood, love , pain , art and the heart of NYC.
Oh wow, I just watched the movie for the first time earlier this week! Seeing this video coming out right now is awesome as I still have the movie fresh in my mind also, great vid as always!
If I recall correctly racking up Professional or Psychopath ratings determines how the game ends. In the movie Mr. Pink runs out of the warehouse and we hear shots. In the game he either is killed (psychopath) or escapes (professional). Great vid as always!
Interesting video mate, never played this! Definitely hanging out for your warriors video, that game was great. The best movie tie ins will always flesh out the universe and characters further!
You know looking at this, for being a late gen PS2 game it looks pretty good. Like the animations and the environments look good. The car model looks decent too.
Hey, nice review you've made there. I just want to say that ShadyFox made a really nice cover of "Stuck in the middle with you", it is actually better than the original.
This is an older video but it brought back wonderful memories. When I was a kid I could hardly afford video games, but the "Family Video" near my house had a promotion. If you received the properly colored weekly gumball from their candy machine you could rent a video game with your movies for free. I remember playing this game incessantly because of my love for the movie and I'll always cherish those poor kid memories.
That's not Red Dead Redemption's Dead Eye mechanic being done four years earlier, that's Red Dead Revolver's Dead Eye mechanic being done two years later.
The chief censor in New Zealand in 2006 had this big deal about 'justifiable violence" in media, and the hostage thing just didn't follow this idea which is why this was banned here (as well as Rockstar's Manhunt shortly later). Australia was just due to the lack of 18 rating as I recall. Doesn't look like we all missed out on that much at the time, but I've always had a curious interest in it.
It makes me so happy to see these videos you make. I like how you look the overlooked. When people think of the past they think of the most popular things. But your videos sheds light on how things where.
I remember being super pumped for this game and knowing it was going to suck at the same time. And I had to drive to 3 different towns to buy it. Not worth it.
I would imagine Tarantino considers himself, above all other things, an artist. I wonder how he feels about video games. Surely he likes them enough that a Reservoir Dogs game was made. But reservoir dogs doesn’t provide a story for a modern day game. In fact, I don’t think any of Tarantino’s movies are suited to translate to a game world. I actually think what would be brilliant is if he turned his script for the Vega brothers movie into an open world gta clone featuring Michael madsen and John travolta. Everyone says these days, it would be impossible to do that prequel movie due to both actors’ age, but not only would video game graphics alleviate the issue of age, but I think if a Tarantino script is to be put to game, we need one that we haven’t seen on screen. Don’t get me wrong, good movie to video game tie ins can and have been done, but his collection of films is very dear to a lot of people including myself and I’d rather see something like a Vega brothers game or something he hasn’t already put to film
My absolute favorite game if this type is The Warriors video game. In complete honesty, it is my favorite video game of all time. Hope see your video on it! You got my sub for putting a spotlight on games I played a lot of and loved growing up!
1:00 - My favorite GTA clone is Tony Hawk's Scarface :D (is that a reference to Tony Montana or just your YT channel's flavor because you played a lot of Tony Hawk games or a combination of the two?) Edit: Ohh, I see you have Tony Hawk on the thumbnail too, neat! I had this game on PS2, played it a little but I didn't really like it. It felt like it's going to build up to something but it never did. I remember going through the tutorial, I remember the paintball level but nothing after that, maybe that's where I left off. You beat it in 3 hours? Well, it might worth wasting half a weekend day, I might get it again.
I don't know why but I really love 3rd person shooter games from 2000's (even if it's so bad like this one). there's some weird charming of it that I really can't find in modern games, the graphics, the weapons, the level design, the cgi cutscenes, etc. that was just a stupid comment honestly lmao but I truly love theese games I think I'll name a few -Max Payne 1,2 (truly legendary games) -Total Overdose, Chili Con Carnage (really awesome game) -The Punisher (really a blast from the past) -The Suffering, Ties That Bind (action with great horror) -Stranglehold (this one a have a destructive crazy gunfight lol) -El Matador (kinda janky but still ok) -Scarface The World is Yours (my word couldn't do justice for this one) -Dead to Rights (awesome game) -Freedom Fighters (great game) -Made Man (kinda bad but like it) I just wasted my time writing this comment and I don't know why lmao (always loves your vids man keep up the good work :)
Ohhh my guilty pleasure, i liked how you had different endings depeding if you were psycho or professional, the ending shows what suppossedly happens to mr pink after he leaves
I accidentally discovered this game in my 9th grade 14 years ago when a classmate played it during a class-meet period. Looked intriguing to me back then.
Thanks for covering these type of games! I just wanted to say that it really broaden my horizon on some very obscure games that were overlooked at the time. But definitely cover The Warriors game!! For a game based on a movie and from Rockstar games themselves, it turned out to be a pretty big surprise all things considering! And if you haven't checked out the movie yet, please do so. Its basically a 2 hour chase scene like Max Max Fury road, but with gangs trying to chase this one gang down. Pretty intense for its time and I think both the movie and the game hold up so well to this day.
I got this game and loved it back in the day because I was a fan of the movie and it was the first video game adaptation of a Tarantino movie, but the gameplay really could and did get repetitive. It had a lot of potential and I wouldn't mind seeing it be remade with the likeness of the actors and their voices. The soundtrack was great of course.
They're lucky they didn't get sued for the Buscemi impersonation. Tom Waits successfully sued a couple of different companies for using an impersonator in their advertisements, because he felt like it damaged his reputation by suggesting he would do the ad.
There is a game called The Masterplan that also has a hostage taking and control enemies mechanic. It's a topdown tactical heist game where the levels are rather puzzle like. And if things go wrong you can get into some pretty good indie movie style gunfights. It even has a distinct 70s atmosphere and aesthetic and excellent visual design to showcase it. It does have some flaws that require some patience to work around but it's a pretty cool game with some creative ideas and worth checking out.
Played this game for many hours, couldn't beat it, couldn't get past the 2nd open area with the store and the cops around, in the country. Love this Games mechanics, way ahead of its time, way underrated
I remember being blown away by this game showing what wasn't in my fav movie. (I was 9 and had no business watching. let alone liking a Tarantino Film)

Actually, Blonde gets his lunch after completing the Driving Marvin Mission. He stops at a fast food joint. Also, fun fact! If you first encounter a cop and they tell you to freeze, and if you don't move your character at all, they'll actually arrest you, giving you a game over without killing you.

@@greenhunter473 it didn't look like the reservoir dogs game was doing much more than just standard bullet time, but I definitely could be wrong...
@@LoveBbyJay doesn't matter it was created by rockstar so it's not like that statement mattered same company that made both games
Just found this game at one of my local game stores for the PS2 and I can't wait to try it out! I watched this video when you originally posted it and I rewatched it as a refresher for what I'm about to get myself into! Thanks for the great content always!
Tony Hawk's face in the Scarface cover at 1:11 was the weirdest thing in this channel I've ever witnessed.
Finally, someone else who makes the "Same age, same income, same super contributions" joke
Talk about an obscure joke though lol. An old ad for an Aussie only superannuation fund
I actually played this one allot! I'm really glad you finally looked into this one!
That idea of aiming at people threatening them but also directing them is really interesting. At least they had some new ideas
the stencil shadows & floor reflections are really well done. I wonder if it looks this good on Xbox & Ps2.
Michael Madsen agreed to voice his character in the game because the advance check cleared. I think he's a great actor, but he doesn't seem to turn anything down as long as long as the project doesn't mess with his plans for the weekend.
Was that Tony Hawk's face on the cover of Scarface on 01:12? 😂
MINORTY REPORT HOMIE.
If you dont review it, you'd still have fun playing it I guarantee.
The rag doll is amazing.
@@GamerGuysReviews oh hell yeah dude
Its only fun with cheats.
That sounds promising
@@oh-not-the-bees7872 nah the brawling is super fun
8:57 With darkness and silence through the night... oh wait wrong game.
The Warriors is by far the best one. To really capture the before and after, really brought you back into why the movie was so well received. Never forget, possibly one the most things related to movie, really set the path for creativity, brother/sister hood, love , pain , art and the heart of NYC.
Been waiting for this one without even knowing it
Thanks man
Oh wow, I just watched the movie for the first time earlier this week! Seeing this video coming out right now is awesome as I still have the movie fresh in my mind
also, great vid as always!
Only a true legend would risk jail time to give us a video on a below average video game from 2006
If I recall correctly racking up Professional or Psychopath ratings determines how the game ends. In the movie Mr. Pink runs out of the warehouse and we hear shots. In the game he either is killed (psychopath) or escapes (professional).
Great vid as always!
Ngl that Steve Buscemi impression actually sounds pretty good 🤔
Atleast mr blue got a scene to him.
check out "Marc Eckō's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure" for the ps2, combines stealth with parkour and fighting, you play as a graffiti artist
Top game! Loved it
Interesting video mate, never played this! Definitely hanging out for your warriors video, that game was great. The best movie tie ins will always flesh out the universe and characters further!
You know looking at this, for being a late gen PS2 game it looks pretty good. Like the animations and the environments look good. The car model looks decent too.
Like solely for the "Same age, same super contribution"
You cheeky devil
That recreation of the intro walk is really charming
I only learnt this game exists the other week. Crazy timing with the posting of this vid
In my opinion, this game is awesome.
The characters don't seem like movies' actor 'cause of copyright trouble
Joe Cabot looks like an overgrown toddler in the game.
Love love love this channel! So good! More Disney stuff is highly recommend! Such a good vibe
1:00 - My favorite GTA clone is Tony Hawk's Scarface :D
(is that a reference to Tony Montana or just your YT channel's flavor because you played a lot of Tony Hawk games or a combination of the two?)
Edit: Ohh, I see you have Tony Hawk on the thumbnail too, neat!
Imagine, a video game where it's the in-game graphics that look better than the cg cutscenes
Beverly Hills Cop on PS2 also came out in 2006.
I don't know why but I really love 3rd person shooter games from 2000's (even if it's so bad like this one). there's some weird charming of it that I really can't find in modern games, the graphics, the weapons, the level design, the cgi cutscenes, etc. that was just a stupid comment honestly lmao but I truly love theese games I think I'll name a few
-Max Payne 1,2 (truly legendary games)
-Total Overdose, Chili Con Carnage (really awesome game)
-The Punisher (really a blast from the past)
-The Suffering, Ties That Bind (action with great horror)
-Stranglehold (this one a have a destructive crazy gunfight lol)
-El Matador (kinda janky but still ok)
-Scarface The World is Yours (my word couldn't do justice for this one)
-Dead to Rights (awesome game)
-Freedom Fighters (great game)
-Made Man (kinda bad but like it)
I just wasted my time writing this comment and I don't know why lmao (always loves your vids man keep up the good work :)
Reservoir Dogs is my all-time favorite movie and I also really like the game as well. If you're a fan of the film, this game won't disappoint you.
And it fills the gaps in parts if the movie.
@@DCGMatthew1 That's literally what the game is mostly about.
This is game actually got me into the movie and it’s my favorite movie of all time so I always have a special place in my heart.
Yes! I was waiting for you to do this one, now do The Punisher game.
Holy crap that Tony Hawk insert is your best one yet. Legendary.
It’s seamless, I didn’t even notice it at first lol
your thumbnails are hideous...I love them so very much 🥺
Thanks for covering these type of games! I just wanted to say that it really broaden my horizon on some very obscure games that
were overlooked at the time. But definitely cover The Warriors game!! For a game based on a movie and from Rockstar games themselves,
it turned out to be a pretty big surprise all things considering! And if you haven't checked out the movie yet, please do so. Its basically a
2 hour chase scene like Max Max Fury road, but with gangs trying to chase this one gang down. Pretty intense for its time and I think both
the movie and the game hold up so well to this day.
Your voice is asmr for me. Puts me to sleep in minutes.
That Scarface cover tho 😂🛹
Played this game for many hours, couldn't beat it, couldn't get past the 2nd open area with the store and the cops around, in the country. Love this Games mechanics, way ahead of its time, way underrated
I remember being blown away by this game showing what wasn't in my fav movie. (I was 9 and had no business watching. let alone liking a Tarantino Film)
Interesting that the game and the film had the same budget
I see minimee I click at once, I dont wait a second!
Man I bought this at Giant Tiger on PC back in the day and could not stop playing
I still can't imagine playing this over Payday 2's Reservoir Dogs heist. I mean, it's even got a rendition of "Stuck In The Middle With You"
5:22 😂😂 damn that car exploded for no reason lol
"Same age, same super annuation" is such a specific and Australian reference.
I remember playing this game when I was around 11-13 years old right around the time I watched the movie. Such a weird juxtaposition to the movie.
Accdently enjoyable - this video
Damn, not showing how Blonde got his fries and coke is a huge missed opportunity. Imagine a mission where you drive by a drive thru
I rented this as one of my free rentals when i worked at blockbuster. I remember it being a bit of a pain but ended up loving it, not a classic or anything just a ok few hours of gaming.
2:27 Well the guy who played Mr. Blue, Eddie Bunker, was dead by 2006.
So was Chris Penn
@@jwr2904 Oh, and Lawrence Tierney
Actually, Blonde gets his lunch after completing the Driving Marvin Mission. He stops at a fast food joint. Also, fun fact! If you first encounter a cop and they tell you to freeze, and if you don't move your character at all, they'll actually arrest you, giving you a game over without killing you.
