    My rifles all wear leather, I've tried just about every type of material and leather is my preference. I chuckled when you made your observations about the Cobra styles vs Hastings sling for actual steadying when shooting. Not everyone thinks about hunting shots being different than range shots with sandbags...
    And, yes, I also bought one of those rubber bouncing slings about 10-15 years ago; after two trips to the woods, that disaster got filed in the circular filing cabinet! LOL!
    Yeah, a plain leather strap does it for me.
    I've really found your videos to be experienced-based and that's why I love watching them. It's always cool to see someone else saying many of the same things that I've been thinking over the years. Keep making 'em and I'll keep watching 'em! Take care!

      I don't have any sponsors or affiliates to promote my work, and frankly really don't want any. I also don't do any of those cheesy "premiers" or promos. Many UA-camrs also do a fair amount of self-promotion, basically posting up their video links all over social media and internet forums to get "clicks". I do none of this. I just enjoy hunting, fishing, and off-roading; and making the occasional video about it.

    Agree with below. Very informative. In the last few years I’ve retired all of my cobra slings, bar one for nostalgia reasons. I also still keep a 2 pt. leather sling on my rifle when using my Kifaru Gun Bearer. I have always felt most confident & stable with a quick wrap of the Hasty sling method. Old instinctive habits die hard for a good reason. Really enjoying your content.

    Another excellent and informative video. I ordered two of the Montana slings. One for my Winchester model 70 Featherweight .270 and one for my Knight Ultra-lite 50 caliber muzzleloader.

    For a simple and cheap but comfortable and easily used sling I really like the Quake claw slim slings. Quick adjustment nylon sling with a thin rubber pad for comfort and non slip

    I,m glad you mentioned the Kifaru gun buddy I think its the best way to carry a rifle in conjunction with a pack.I would pick the Galco Ching Safari sling as my favorite it fills that gap between a carry strap and a proper target shooting loop sling.

    Funny I had just ordered one of the Montana slings before watching this I had read on there website the versatility of there slings and I wanted one to put on my pre 64 model 70 30-06 that did come with the original sling swivels but no sling I am glad I watched this because I am going to mount it on the rifle like you did down at the butt end of the stock

    Thank you for another fine presentation, DD. You have a way of separating the pepper from the fly poop. :). I use Murray quick set leather slings Aleda, Texas. Dress them with olive oil to keep them supple. Excellent.

    • @desertdogoutdoors1113
      @desertdogoutdoors1113  4 роки тому +2

      The Murray A1 is a great sling with probably better quality than the Montana. The only reason I prefer the Montana sling is that I can adjust it faster with one hand when I move between carry positions. The bad part of the Montana sling is that it is too thick and takes LOTS of oil and use to break in. All of my ammo carriers/belts are from Murray Custom Leather.

    As a direct result of your excellent content, I have purchased both an X-bolt and the Montana quick sling this week. You should consider setting up affiliate links and dropping them all in the description when you make these videos. These companies otherwise do not know how much traffic and sales you are likely sending their way!

    The Montana is a fantastic sling! I treat mine with Obenauf's HD leather protectant. It makes the leather supple and protects from rain, snow and dry rot. I use it on all my leather products!! I'm sure you would get great use from many of their products! By the way, your videos are fantastic!

    Good video Desert dog, I agree with you on all points. I will say I often use a military loop style sling while hunting, but I was a serious Highpower competitor for many years and can "sling up" in just about 3 seconds. Having said that, it's way to complicated for the average shooter for sure. Keep it up man, well done Sir!

    If I want a leather sling I go with the Latigo sling from Brownells. They’ve sold them since the 50’s-60’s. Quick deployment and quick to tighten.
    If I want synthetic then I go with the Super Sling 2. It’s the synthetic equivalent of the Latigo.

    I like your observations. I haven't hunted as widely as you but have humped a firearm around some.
    1 1/4" width leather seems to be the best compromise for hunting. 1 inch slings are an abomination.
    The Ching Sling that I used a while back should have been 1 1/4" wide instead of an inch and made of leather not nylon. But it may be the best rifle sling I've used.
    I've been using a cobra sling to hump my waterfowl guns to and from a blind. That's it's best use.
    Have fun.

      We do it all the time. My wife and I take turns hunting and filming. In Africa, if your wife wants to film and not hunt, she pays "observer fees" that cover the cost of her food and camp services.

    Did you mean to have the rifle slung over your right shoulder in the European carry demonstration?
    You said your 'support shoulder'. I may be seeing it backwards in tbe video. What do you think of Peter Captick's advice. I know it maybe somewhat dated. Here is a link ua-cam.com/video/I-nBINym1-I/v-deo.html
    Like I said, great video👍

    • @desertdogoutdoors1113
      @desertdogoutdoors1113  4 роки тому

      Good eye. I am a righty by nature, but often shoot and practice ambidextrous. I just used the right shoulder to demo in the video, but European carry should be in front of the support shoulder. You have to take half of what Capstick says with a grain of salt, but he was correct about the European carry method in that video.
