Touched by the hand of Ofra Haza I read about the temple of love by Sisters of Mercy. Touched by the hand indeed. Hearing Ofra is like a baptism of a sort, you somehow come out cleaner on the other side.
This song is like an anthem in Israel. At least back in the day ...you whould hear it in ceremonies and everyone whould cry...today i cry beacuse she was right..that is the lesson of life ...and beacuse i miss her angelic voice and the presence of great people no longer with us...
I discovered Ofra Haza through The Prince of Egypt. Her voice was so moving when I was a teen and when I discovered her and then I found she was gone... my heart shattered, especially knowing how she struggled and felt shame for her diagnosis... how she could have lived longer. Her voice is so incredible, and she's someone I always pull out to introduce to people who want to branch outside of the music they hear on the radio. Every time I hear her, my heart moves and I get choked up because she feels like she's right here, singing solely to me, to my heart. Her voice is just... it's... I'm so grateful I discovered her as her voice has made my life more complete.
Damn...( sorry ), her voice in this song made my whole body vibrate. And I felt that the special words made me... teary-eyed Her voice is angelic...thank you Ken
Ofra Haza is a goddess. It saddens me to know that she passed away at the young age of 42. A real tragedy. Yet, she leaves her legacy for eternity. That is, her God given talent and voice that will endure until eternity. Ofra Haza mesmerizes me. Her talent, her beautiful voice transcends time and will be appreciated forever. I love Ofra Haza.
This was her 1st performance, from 1978, aged 20: ua-cam.com/video/SFtIhKQILnM/v-deo.html It's "Im Nin'alu", a Jewish prayer, unique to Yemenite Jews. She did a modern version of it in the 80s. This is the traditional version, but you'll probably be able to recognize how the traditional music (especially of Yemenite Jewish women) influenced her voice.
Chester Bennington did a cover of Billy Idol's White Wedding when he would tour with Kings of Chaos in 2016. He sounded just like Billy Idol. Chester had the ability to mimic anyone when he wanted to. Kings of Chaos are a group people who are all members of rock bands who all like to play "classic" rock songs from the 70's and 80's. Chester toured with them on and off for quite a few years.
The instrument at the begining is a Nim (or an emulation of one). The Nim is a traditional flaut on the Middle East, and in the Islamic tradition cosidered as giving voice to the human soul. This song "Latet - to give" is often played at solemn events of remembrence and of national mourning, and has profound cultural meaning to Israeli.
Ofra Haza was hired to sing of Prince of Egypt soundtrack. You can review the opening song from the soundtrack: Deliver Us. The loved her voice so much that she was hired to sin the opening song in every language the movie was distributed
It's always interesting to listen to your reactions and insightful comments. I hope you have noticed the new EP Angelina Jordan released recently. She will establish her own genre with this EP with six tracks. Two have a video, and the rest is only a visualizer with audio. I am curious about your reactions to her songs.
You're right. This is the original version: ua-cam.com/video/sqmVeRtPCws/v-deo.html which is also very good. The song became popular, mainly because it appeared in a successful Israeli movie.
Dear Kobishami, I'm not sure whether you are asking just me or all subscribers in general. As far as I'm concerned, I sometimes think it was more a case of her finding me. Fate, I suppose, like many things in life, they find you. About forty years ago, I was enjoying a few drinks with friends in a taverna in the Plaka district of Athens. The usual bouzouki type music was playing in the background. My friends had got up to leave and I was about to join them when a sudden change of music from the hi-fi stopped me in my tracks. I had to stay and listen and a friendly local told me who the singer was. It was as though the fairy godmother of song had cast her benign spell and I had fallen under it. I remain enchanted to this day and pray that the spell is never broken. Well, that's my story. What's yours?

"Yerushaliem of gold" is also beautiful that she sings.
This song burns my heart ❤
Wow, incredible voice 😍
I thought Ofra is form Yemen but was mainly active in Israel. I think I have a cd called Yemenite songs
שירים יהדות תימן.
עופרה חזה גדלה ונולדה בתל-אביב
בישראל.
מהמורשת מבית אביה הוציאה דיסק
של יהדות -תימן.
שרוב השירים הרב שבזי.
Loved it ❤ Thank you 🌹
