Danielle, this song came out at about the same time as the 7-Day War in 1967. The performance was recorded live like 30 years afterwards. You noticed the words are like a lullaby, but underneath there's the heavy tread of an army on the march. And not only that, but the heaviness of the march underneath bespeaks the heavy burden of a people so passionately tied to this city and this little swath of dirt from the Judean Highlands down to the coast that they seize and all but merge themselves into the stones that represent the land, the city, the people, and G-d Himself.
Hi I'm from Israel and really loved your video! Ofra Haza was one of the greatest singers in our country and her voice was so special and uniqe. She is really a legend here in my country. The song is very long because it's an old song and that's why it's longer than other songs but normally israeli songs are 2-3 minutes like regular songs. She also gave her voice to sing in the film "The Prince Of Egypt. The director fell inlove with her voice and wanted her to sing in his movie. She also known for her song "Im Ninalu", you should listen to that song too :)
Ofra Haza had a big hit with Im Nin Alu which showed that her voice also worked well with dance music. She also represented Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest and came in 2nd I believe. It was really sad that she died so young.
I dont agree with the review... I think this song is perfectly both written and composed ( by one of the best writer/composers in the world...). And its one of the most famous international songs in the world... But maybe you need to get the colture and deep meaning of it to feel it and understand why its so much NOT too long...or simplistic....but appriciate the effort of reviewing it, and you seem like a nice person with a great smile!
This performance is live at the "Sultans Pools" (an open air water cistern built in the 14th century) in Jerusalem. The echo is the acoustics of the arena/cistern-pool
Please make a reaction to a young, very popular singer in world. Videos from this singer collect hundreds of millions of views. Diana Ankudinova is now only 17 years old. She has a very unique, very deep, clear voice. Dr. Marc Reynolds (Voice Teacher, Stage Director, Performance Coach and Consultant, and Acting Coach) said about the performance of this girl: Really really exceptional! Even if you ignore her age, even is she was 10, 20, 30 years older, this is still a really exceptional performer here that we're seeing. But at her age, unbelievable. Really really exceptional! Absolutely gorgeous! And again, not just because of her voice, because her performing, watching how nuanced and engaging her performance is. Ah, it's just so stunning. It's absolutely amazing.
to repeat myself: I'm not musically educated, but I don't need to be to say that Ofra Haza touched the sky with this performance and that no one before, or in the future, has surpassed her performance! It disgusts me when some compare her to Madonna! Madonna is nowhere near the vocal capabilities of Ofra Haza. Ofra is simply unique and unrepeatable! We love you and miss you beautiful Lady, Queen of Israel...
You were lucky to hear the greatest singer of all times in Israel, with the great song of all times in Israel. A lot of people in IL would want that this song will be the national anthem. I loved your reaction

I looked at almost 5 thousand reactions to Diana Ankudinova, but I never found yours. A tandem of two beautiful women would be very interesting to see.. .
If you would follow the history of this particular song, and what it means, you will know that no Israeli will wait that this song will end, and it's not because we like long songs or repetitive ones.
Diana Ankudinova is a young performer who shocks us with her pleasant voice and takes us into the abyss of events!!! Diana Ankudinova is unique and inimitable, goosebumps from her voice!=)))) Diana sings as if she lives in the song! Several comments on what I haven't notices commented by you or below the video: 1. You were probably searching for the word "mystical". 2. All "a" in her name in Hebrew are pronounced like first "a" in "hazard" (without "e" element). 3. You are right that it's not quite a pop song and this is connected to why people don't get tired on it's being "repetitive" - this song is essentially an unofficial anthem of Jerusalem or (besides Hatikva, an official anthem) even Israel as a whole. 4. If you saw the Prince of "Egypt movie" - Ofra Haza voiced Yocheved (mother of Moses) in beginning of this movie and the character's appearance is based on her. Also, she performed her song for this movie in 18 different languages of six language families.

I don't know your qualifications as a 'vocal coach" but you don't analyze, break down and articulate Ofra's vocal abilities. You don't mention her ability to sing in various guttural sound so smoothly, the trills, etc. You keep on saying "mysterious' which is not the analysis of a vocal coach. Do you realize the talent of Ofra Haza? Check-out the analysis by Ken Lavigne on UA-cam-a performer and vocal coach. LOL This is a simplistic song!! Don't you hear the power and he depth? I couldn't tell what you were saying at 7:27 since you were speaking over Ofra. You missed a great part how she extended the range of her voice. Ofra's voice is not simplistic. You really need to view Ken Lavigne's analysis.

Spiritual
Ofra had a beautiful ethereal voice. This is an incredibly emotional song which gives me goosebumps every time I hear it!
Ofra Haza, THE Voice! Perfect clarity, warmth, pitch and the best vibratto ever.
One of the most beautiful languages in the world
Ofra Haza used to be called: "The voice of Israel" I was and am still one of her Fans. Thank you for presenting her and the feeling for Jerusalem. 💝
The vibrto your talking about is very common in music of the region. In hebrew we call it "silsulim"🙂
