I live in Tampa Bay I saw this plant in Walmart. It was so beautiful I didn't know what type of plant it was. I brought it anyway. Thanks for sharing all you knowledge.
I first saw the song of India, at a neighbors house. The neighbor didn’t know the name of the plant, but did say it was difficult to find. I was so happy when a year later I found the the song of India, in a big box store . Thank you, for the information on it’s care
I got my dracena at Walmart the other day. They even have 5 foot ones. I really appreciate him some people think they're basic & boring but I enjoy the foliage. Reminds me of bigger spider plant leaves. 🌱💚
I'm a bit desperate so bare with me. My mother bought me a song of India for my birthday on our last outing together. She's currently preparing to pass due to cancer; making these plants she bought me that much more special to me. I've got the darker green one that seems to be doing well for itself. But the brighter Song of India plant seems to be struggling; though it's conditions are identical to that of the darker one. At first it had some leaves withering, and then it started dropping a few leaves on occasion. It's got 3 stocks and one of them lost most all it's lower leaves yesterday. I woke up this morning to that same stock having gone completely limp; seemingly due to the weight of it's healthy green top. It seems the stock itself has some kind of problem and it simply couldn't support the weight any longer. I did the only thing I figured I could do; and clipped the top of that one stock; so now it's just a bare stick. While the other two stocks are seemingly much better off; one of them is showing similar signs of withering leaves and I fear it too will run into similar problems. If anyone reading this may have some suggestions; please let me know. I live in a humid region, they've got indirect shaded sunlight; and I water them about once per week or so if not a little longer.
I hope the top stalk that you clipped off you put into a jar of tap water so that new roots form and after 1-1.5 inch of roots you can repot into another pot. Regarding the main plant, it’s difficult to say without seeing it up close, but I would take it into a plant store/horticulturist for their opinion/guidance. So sorry about your dear Mama… stay strong dear one🌿💐🪴🌺🌼
I really appreciate this video. I had a bunch of them in a large fish tank and they were thriving until recently, then they started dying - And even getting spots. I’m extremely hopeful that they’ll rebound. Thank you, again. 🤗 you just gave me an education I needed but didn’t have time to get.. I know they are included within the Dracaena family but thank you for featuring this beautiful plant. Nice!
Thank you! Yes they're often sold for aquariums which sets people up for failure since they can only be grown fully submerged for a small amount of time.
I live in Los Angeles (Zone 10a) and they grow effortlessly here outside. I'm glad I found this video of yours today, because today I got 43 song fo India cuttings from my neighbor and I'm excited about getting them to root :)
I love the rambling some people just don't have the patience and aren't very nice o.o❤💕. Completely up to you, it's your channel. P.S. love watching you pot stuff up x3.
What an excellent & helpful video, thank you so much! I just subscribed & am looking forward to going through your channel & watching more videos. Thank you!!
Hi Jeff ~ I haven't seen those particular dracaenas before. They're really pretty. I have 7 dracaenas and love them all! My 2 biggest ones are Dracaena Marganita. Thank you for sharing this very useful information.
The Song of India actually grows in basically full sun here. They are common container plants on lanais, so the only sun protection they get is from the screening, which isn't much. They can get brown leaf tips during the heat of summer but that is about it. You end up having to top them after a while because they get too tall and the leaves are way up so all you see is bare stem.
Great video Jeff, I love your channel, I always love my laugh for the day, you are just fun. I have a Dracaena "Jade Jewel", love this plant, and it's super easy to grow and mine is growing like crazy, I love it it's super pretty and I love the variegation in the leaves. Thanks Jeff, I'm trying to catch up on my video watching.
Hi, Jeff. I completely understand your love for this variety of dracena. I have 3 other varieties but not this one ( I can wait). I saw a table full of them at Lowe's one day, and they were a show-stopper for sure. I'm glad you mentioned the fluoride; it really can cause brown edges, so I use filtered water. Thanks! :)
Hey Mr Tropical.. Thanks so much for the imfo on....Song of India....D V.. Refelexa.... Got this Sweet Beauty at Krogers for a huge markdown.. Looked ok to me. Checked Uer Roots. Looked ok.. & she is doing great... But do need to move Her back away from my lite...even filtered with lite tan shears. There was a sliver of real lite SE. & little bugger got 2 slightly scorched leaves. Now I know she does better without such strong lite.. I will be moving her back a bit.. So thanks so much....
Hello! They are very sensitive to bright light aren't they? They can be acclimated to full sun but it takes a bit of time and some leaf scorch in the process is almost guaranteed.
Hi Jeff! As I’ve said b4 I love your channel and how well you explain the care of plants. For this plant (Song of India) I have 4 in big pots which I rescued from a mall. Some of the branches are brown with no leaves. There are a few leaves on each plant. I wld like to put them all in one pot so that it looks full not straggly. Do I remove the brown stems that look dead without leaves? I can’t seem to find anything showing the process.
This is one of the dracaenas that I didn't buy. Various websites, like you, stated Song of India doesn't grow in low light. (my Janet craig, lemon lime, dracena wackenii, and lime all do fine in low light)
Thank you for the informative video! My Song of India is very small with 1 stem and it lost a lot of it's middle leaves but seems to have adjusted to my home. I noticed you have so many beautiful tropical plants and was wondering what state you're in?
Hi, I’ve had my Draceana Sanderiana for almost a year now. It is not growing upright for some odd reason. It began doing that when I repotted it a few months ago. It does look healthy & green but it is not growing straight ..
I got a dracaena reflexa two days back. The soil in the planter seems too wet to me, its wet to touch from the top. I havent watered it since i brought it home. Is there anything to worry about? Should i repot it?
i got my song of india but few days why is starting leaves fall.. i repotted it and it looks the soil is too wet so i removed the wet soil snd use my damp soil.. but still dropping leaves.. i love the colors of this plant i hope it will survive. please advise..
Are the leaves turning yellow before they fall off? Is there a hole in the pot? If you have the plant indoors it is better to error on the side of the soil being too dry than too wet.
Tropical Plant Party the leaves are not yellow, i dont have it anymore it fell off the leaves so fast. i change the soil and the root is looking good and after i repotted it still continue to fall off the leave the tip of the plant fell off completely so what i did on the other stem which the last one i cut it and put in vase with water the leaves are still intact it stop the leaves from falling.. and hoping the cut stem will sprout a new grow.. i was so sad coz i cant find anymore like this in our store..
I got a cane dracena with this same coloring, and it has two plants growing off from the cane. How concerned should I be if the cane starts to yellow? It's the strangest thing as the plants and the roots look fine, and the other dracenas I'm growing are also doing okay. I tried looking online but can't seem to find an answer. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Totally normal! These plants sometimes have offshoot growth from the trunks. If the trunk yellows you can cut off the offshoots and just stick them in a pot with some soil. They should root fairly easily.
My Song of India dropped leaves (not brown leaves- they looked healthy) and they became very leggy. I love this plant but I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. 🤷🏼♀️
I just picked up one of these and I reported it but every other day I find a bottom leaf that has turned yellowish brown and fallen off. What is happening???
My song of India is dropping leaves like crazy. It's in a northern room that has bright medium indirect light plus I have a grow light. No brown tips or pests. Please help. It's also in a humid room.
I’m having the same issue! It hurts my heart. The leaves turn a brown/yellow color then fall. I moved it to a room with more light and modified its watering (I thought perhaps I overwatered) but it’s still dropping leaves. Could fluoride be the cause? Thanks for sharing!
Silly question.... technically aren’t all plants “clean air plants”? I mean I personally can’t think of any that pollute the air lol 😂 They take in carbon dioxide and put out oxygen. Companies (not you) annoy the crap out of me with this gimmicky catchphrase just so they can raise the price of a plant that does the same chemical exchange as it’s neighbor. 🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿🤔👿
Lol! Clean air plants are the ones shown to not only remove carbon dioxide and release oxygen but also remove some harmful toxins which other plants do not do.
Tropical Plant Party well we can’t all be fancy and perfect lol!!! I like sitting with the band kids and the science freaks of the plant world........ (I don’t even know what that means lol)
So rare to see a care video on dracaena! Thanks, I wouldn't have known about the flouride problem without this
I'm just so in love with the song of India! It's the Chris Evans in the plant kingdom! You're right it looks hot!!

Those orange roots are beautiful. I never knew any plants had orange roots! Love that Song of IIndia.💚
Oh ya she is doing great.. Just before Christmas I got her . And bought a cool air humidifer...WAHAT A DEFFERENCE IN ALL MY PLANTS
Humidity makes a huge diff doesn't it!
I have tried to grow these a couple of times with no luck. I do love the look of them. Maybe I should try again.
I got my dracena at Walmart the other day. They even have 5 foot ones. I really appreciate him some people think they're basic & boring but I enjoy the foliage. Reminds me of bigger spider plant leaves. 🌱💚
🤣😂 their is something very basic about them but I agree with you, they shine through over a lot of other plants.
I think they are majestic and they're my favorite. I love how these and marginatas grow all differently directions.

Thank you I couldn’t find any info on these, this was great

Omg you reflexa rich! Thats so many!
Yeah. I'm probably gonna root them and give most of them away as gifts or use in plant swaps :)
Just purchased the variegated one and came across your channel looking for plant care.
Awesome information thanks!

Your energy is one in a million
Thank you!
I live in the sub tropics in Australia and have 7 of these growing outside in full sun. They are over 3.5 m tall. They love sun
I live in the same zone ( Gladstone ) and mine grow outside in full sun too.
I can’t wait til mine comes. I bought one online and I am so happy to get it.
I LOVE your teal pots! That is exactly what I would do! Beautiful 😍😍
Thank you!
What an excellent & helpful video, thank you so much! I just subscribed & am looking forward to going through your channel & watching more videos. Thank you!!
Thank you, Jasmine! Hope you are doing well and having a great weekend!

Another example of how great our houseplants thrive down south!
I am in Miami I rescued one from a Home Depot about four years ago it is now over 6 feet inside never out, but it’s one skinny stock.
Awesome video, love the plants you are showcasing 👍👍
Thank you!
I love the videos where you teach the individual plants, I am turning my backyard into a tropical back yard, using your info mostly and love yours!
Thank you! I bet your garden is looking amazing!

Oh the Jade Jewel is so pretty! Haha!... you're trying to catch up and I release an hour long video! I'm so sorry Holly! 🤣😂🤣😂
Song of india is one of my favorites! Just found your channel! Love it!
Well hello, Aimee! They are one of my favorites too! Everything about them is just lovely.
@@TropicalPlantParty I'm trying to get my plant collection back. It's been years, but I use to have a house full of plants. I miss it!
I bought that plant today, (song of Jamaica). I think it’s also call song of India.
Nice video and informations

That must be beautiful to see!

They look pretty as floor plants partnered up with the hanging spider plants
They really do!
I have one. But outdoors in full sun. I will be moving it soon. Thanks!!
Nice video. Can you do a video on your orchids please? I would like to see how they all are doing. Thanks.

Can you plant each stalk/"trunk" in it's own pot?
I recently bought a song of india, it has 3 stalks/trunks.
Will it survive if I seperate them?
I have these plants only found out its name today, mu question is can i have these plants indoor.
is that special sand? where do you get that type of sand that you mix the soil with. thanks

Lemon lime vs song of india i cant tell which one i have. It looks like song of india but bigger leaves

Probably transplant shock. Give it a bit of time to adjust to its surroundings and it'll bounce back.
