You will be able to buy a new old stock skx for a few thousand in a few years... if you can find one. Nothing that came out on the market from Seiko in recent years (5kx line, Turtle, Prospex) or other models are like skx..whatever some say. It is already considered vintage since it is from 1996, but they are also rare because no one really sells the SKX007 anymore, being very collectable. It will be quite difficult to catch an unmodified skx. I personally just bought 3 new old stock from an individual who had 6 skx007, brand new, $240 each. When I called to get more... they were already sold..
I’m still a fan of Swiss watches but like you I bought a 009 as my first Japanese watch and I LOVE it. It probably get more wear than any other watch that I own
I have one also! This watch will last 25 plus years! I have friends that have had this watch well into retirement! Modification to bezel and crystal is all you need!
There are a couple of scratches on the side of the case but, the only thing that really looks older is the dial. I assume it also helps that it’s usually worn 2 or 3 times a week.
I have very light scratches on my hardlex but only because i do everything with it..including working on my car...sometimes I slip while tightening a bolt or something and it would bang against a sharp surface....other than that it looks pretty good for the amount of abuse I put that thing through.
I bought mine brand new in 2010 and it would gain 15 minutes in 24 hours. Had to send it to SEIKO USA in New York and they recalibrated it. The thing holds perfect time now. I got one scratch on the lens do to a doorknob it's a small one but I could see it
Best everyday watch even during casual work attire. Best in Lume, it can be matched with different type of bands, solid state I had my SKX013 banged and bumped many times and still nothing to worry about. I especially love the way the crystal have a beveled edge that makes the lume/ dial extra aesthetics. Pricewise, it is good especially for starter in mechanical/ automatic watch collection. I have a love hate relationship for the movement, I just wish they have hacking/ winding system. Great review! Greetings from Philippines.
Recently purchased a SKX009J and I love it. I previously owned a SKX007 and sold it like an idiot. The new purchase has a great accuracy (+2 seconds/day) but the strap is just unwearable.
When Seiko presented the SKX to the world, they never expected it to be very popular !!.....It has now become one of their Icon,s !.......I have two, the 007 and the 009......And both will NEVER leave my collection, as you say, for the money, they are unapproachable. They just do everything you want.....Mine often get a huge amount of wrist time, and that,s with a collection of 250 plus watches....Many which are with Swiss Movements, and cost North of £3000. That says it all......Thanks for the Video ;)
I just got the 009 version off Marketplace from a gentleman who upgraded it with a double-AR-coated sapphire, NH36 movement, and sapphire/fully lumed bezel for just over 330. Perfect condition, he regulated it to -/+ 5 seconds a day; It now runs about -/+ 2 seconds a day AT MOST. I'll not buy another watch again.
Excellent and honest review,I like your frank opinion and right to the point,no BS.Rocking my 009K on a blue toxic nato.same as you sold my high end swiss divers and went for the asian persuasion.
Ferien7 there are two internet sellers that have 100% customer satisfaction.longislandwatches, and on E-Bay a seller called BIGTIME/WATCHES99.Itzak and joseph down in Miami have been selling me Seiko divers for over 20 years.
I have two of the 007s. One is mint only been worn a few Times it’s a 2001 and the other is a 1997 that was badly modified I got It cheap and have restored it to almost original. The only part I left was the 4r36 that was in it (not an nh36). I like the hacking and hand winding. This is now my everyday watch.
Nice strap.. I just ordered this watch on Amazon for $209 -news to me confirmed discontinued😱... So at that price I had to make my move✔️. Hope I like it as much as my Citizen promoter diver's 200m. Cheers🍻🇱🇷
The skx simply was bullseye back then in the 90s. Mine is a somewhat pimped 013 on a strapcode bracelet. I think for a 6.7 inch wrist the 013 got more style.
added "Dragon Shroud" on my "old school" watches ...more character/appeal like the "Tuna models" :))), love Seiko Dive watches...next the old school "Capt. Willard/turtle watch"
I recently purchased a Seiko “5kx” SRPD watch, and I have been obsessed with it and it’s history ever since. Like you, my copy is flawless, everything aligns perfectly, and keeps perfect time. The lume shines better than my more expensive Seiko’s! The design of this watch (SKX), and it’s successors goes back to the early 1970’s with the reference 7548! It’s a classic design and I will be cherishing my Seiko SRPD unapologetically until the end of time.
I recently purchased a Seiko SKX 009J. Wanted one before prices got out of hand and didn't want a knock-off or gray market one. Loving it. Recently put a Hexad watch bracelet on it to make it more beefier.
Haha, I went through the very same road. I've been into Swiss watches, exclusively. But then I've "discovered" Japanese watches with in-house movements and how overpriced and full of shit most of the Swiss timepieces are (all below Omega Seamaster, basically).
I've handled many Rolex watches, that some people seem to think are the best, and I'd take a Grand Seiko any day of the week. And these days, how much does "Swiss Made" even mean. At least with Seiko, you know you're getting a true in house movement.
@@JaxWatchesandEDC Exactly. It is more of legal tricks nowadays than actual Swiss provenance. At least from low to mid tier stuff. Top tier watches are so expensive (especially here in Poland) that it would be really hard to justify the price with outsourced bits. I'm just getting into acknowledging GS but those timepieces look the part already.
I have same watch but after 3 yrs of wearing it the strap pin broke off level with the watch case and its seized in , not impressed would not buy another 🙁🙁
JaxWatchesandEDC its my second one I've owned , first one being a 7003 which i wore out that was a good watch no probs This one was also bought in uk till i moved here to Thailand but on noticing the dial it is the K spec not made in Japan i believe ? would this explain a inferior strap and pin perhaps ?
It's a possibility, but my understanding is that the j and k versions are made to the exact same specifications. I have a j model 011, and it had the crappy rubber strap as well. Sorry, that's the best I can do based on my experience.
JaxWatchesandEDC cheers mate , as i said i bought both mine in uk but ive been to my local shopping mail here to Seiko shop and some are J spec and some models are K spec but better than that less than a third in price of uk lol Less import tax i guess with not being far from Japan So looks like everything might turn out in my favour lol Might go for the Turtle this time 👍👍
had a turtle was way too big and I'm a big guy wish I had my white face Daytona back. needed the money that won't happen with this one lost my turtle jumping boiling pots cliffs big island.

I beat mine up everyday. it still looks great. Bought mine at a great price 5yrs ago and recently found that the price has skyrocketed.
SKX is a source of security and dependability. A wonderful tool watch with one of the most classic designs ever to adorn a wristwatch.
The SKX is iconic. It is no wonder. It is the best looking dive watch on the market, and you can mod it.
Marc at LIW cherry picked my SKX for bezel alignment. Very happy with it!
I’m still a fan of Swiss watches but like you I bought a 009 as my first Japanese watch and I LOVE it. It probably get more wear than any other watch that I own
Got the same watch, had it a couple of years, have 13 in my collection, but this is my go to watch. Superb.
200$ always sounds great. Here in Germany they charge 400-600€ for this watch!!!
It's more like $280 USD now on amazon. I'm trying to find one too, but everywhere the price seems to be jacked up.
Its probably a Tariff or a VAT.
400 - 600 €!?😱
Ja, wucher... weisst du wo man die günstig bekommt
that's just appreciation because it's discontinued.
I have the Skx009 and i absolutely adore it
Thanks for watching
I still love mine! I have a 97'model!
You'll always get a good watch if you buy from a good dealer with a great reputation. Long Island Watch is one of those.

This SKX007 looks new for a 4 years old of ownership.

You can use diamond paste to remove the scratches from the glass & the case
wore mine working construction. Sent it in for servicing the only scratches were on the crystal. Easily replaced. I wear the watch constantly.

"Made in Japan" means quality. Can't go wrong with any purchase.
Sweet. Now send to me so I can mess it up, I mean mod it.
if you look at the seiko as a car then the watch runs as good as a Honda. yep. when I was a kid only thing made in Japan was cheap radios
Best bang for the buck Seiko diver.
Great analogy, I’m a glock and skx fanboy.

The hardlex crystal has little reflection compared to sapphire.
Who cares, it’s not a mirror
@@leebarrett9581 reflective surfaces makes it hard to read duh
I have 007 J1 love it
Knock, knock. Whose there? Seiko. We have come to recover our prototype skx007. Hello? Hello? Are you still there? LOL
Lol
The hype is real
I don’t know if should get the Seiko 5 Urchin ( SNZF17 ) or invest a little more for the SKX
I've had both, and would pick the SKX. It just feels better to me
Skx, theres not a huge amount if difference realistically but the Skx... it's got the X factor that few watches have
Salvador Terrazas snzf17 os really cheap looking. Skx007 is better quality, though it's uglier
“INVEST”?

What's are your opinions on orient watches? Specifically their dive watches.
@@Ferien7 Sorry I just saw your post. I think that Orient have better fit and finish to a degree.
where did you buy it?
I bought this one from Jomashop
Do you use a watch winder?
I don't, but I know a lot of guys do.
Take the Seiko, leave the Glock
Is it a refurbished watch.Maybe dials not original.?
I bought it brand new
*how is the lume now?*
Still going strong
Is this SKX007K? is 007J or 007K better?
This is the k model. I have found literally no difference between the build quality, accuracy, or quality control between the k and j versions.
